Good Points: Light weight, good results with illuminator
Bad Points: Objective goes out of focus very easily Slight fish-eye effect distorts image IR illuminator has very narrow beam
General comments: Very nice light weight piece of NV kit. Works well with a certain amount of background light. As with all NV particularly gen 1 can't work in total blackness (in a room indoors for example). Four magnifications are available. This review is of the Yukon NVMT4 1x. Shooters may be interested to know that I could not get a satisfactory image behind a 30mm bodied scope at night. That is not to say that others will also fail however. The 1x has a strange fish-eye type distortion which was completely unexpected. Having said that the optics are clear, the resolution is good and on a half-moonlit night you can definately see into shadows which are totally black to the naked eye. You cannot use the illuminator through glass, even at an angle. The reflection kills the image. With an illuminator the 1x is very very good indoors, the only problem being having to continually re-focus the objective for different distances. The only other really negative point when using it is that the objective is moved out of focus very easily, so if you take the NV away from your eye and let it hang on a lanyard around your neck for example, when you bring it back up to your eye it WILL be out of focus needing both hands to re-focus it. That was genuine drawback for me. Don't use the non-waterproof in wet or even damp environment due to the high voltages in use!
