Outstanding Car. I have an 08 with 17,000 miles and runs like a bear. Great ride, handling, style, color metalic Red, room inside and a trunk big enough to put 6 bodies in it. Also at 4000+ I get great fuel mileage. Mostly over 30mpg.
Will buy another one and I reccomend it to everyone. My toy is a 2009 Mustang GTCS for when I need to get bumped around.

I have a 1995 Ford Taurus automatic 3.2 with 146,000 miles on it. I got mine beat up and beat down. But even with all the problems I had it still was faster and more potent that just about anything I've ever driven. The Yamaha 3.2 is quite possibly the best engine ever made. I've taken everything from eclipses, to souped up civics to Lexus 400's. City driving is fairly normal in general, but when you get on the freeway.....It's a wrap. Best car I ever had. And of course, it is always fun to raise the hood and show it off to others.

I found my 1992 Ford Taurus SHO with a little over 100,000 miles on it last year. I got this car fantastically cheap! It has all the interior goodies original to the car. The JBL sound system is fantastic! Love the sunroof. The five speed with the clutch has shifted flawlessly since I purchased the car! Everything works. No rust anywhere. It has plenty of power and can run with traffic with no problems. Had to get a radar detector so I could get out on the highway and go! Ford should have... (read more)

The best point? My '95 Ford Taurus SHO is white with black piping, a black moon roof and a black partial bra. Even now, some drivers ahead of me slow down, mistaking it for a pursuit car. Well, more importantly, it's super comfortable for my build with a great power seat and lots of leg room. More space than a BMW of the same class and as easy to handle. The coachwork is excellent too; I live in Ontario where there's lots of snow and ice and, of course, road salt. But my SHO has no rust. (read more)

I've had my 95 Ford Taurus SHO since it was a year old. It had a broken motor mount and clutch (think the previous owner liked to abuse it) and it still beat a souped up Camaro and a Trans Am at the track in the 1/4 mile! Mine is a daily driver and even used for work. I'm a 59-year old female realtor and the men clients especially just love the car and give me a lot of respect. Who ever told you about the cam and crankShaft sensors are probably right. I Have a 92 mtx, and had the same problem. No fire, won't start, maybe a few pops everyonce and a while but nothing. Cam sensor is under the valve covers, and is fairly easy to do, just takes patience, and the crank sensor is the worst of all, but more than likely the cause of the problem. I replaced every sensor I knew about and the crank sensor was the one. It is on the passenger side, you have to take the wheel off, harmonic balancer, timing belt cover, part of the intake, accessory belts, and it takes a good 8 hours, and i am no mechanic, just a computer programer.

Go to: www.SHOtimes.com. FAQ. Go to: Care and Feeding of the Taurus SHO. Go to: Engine Control. Go to: My SHO won't start - what's the deal? Check battery cables, esp. the small wire powering the computer. In fact, you may want to replace the battery cables if you have a high mileage SHO. That's what I did years ago and it solved a host of electrical problems, including a testy lock-up solenoid which caused a tranny shudder. This may sound odd, but it seems Ford's original 3 gauge wiring was just not durable enough to deliver enough amps in the long run, so I replaced the originals with good aftermarket 2-gauge cables. Hey, hope it works.

When the Ford Taurus SHO was first claimed as Americas best sedan in 81 they were right. It is a family car with balls, and I'm very impressed with its unique handling and high rpm. The Ford Taurus SHO Sedan has a very fast take off and it handles pretty good considering the fact that it is a heavy 4-door sedan. It has a very smooth ride and you can push the RPM's over 5,000 at 116,000 miles. If the car needs replacement parts it is very expensive so be careful and take care of it. Sadly, not many people know about the SHO but after they see it and ride in it, I think that they just fall in love with the car and I haven't met anyone yet who hasn't liked the car. (read more)

Have you ever experienced earlier versions of the sho with the v6 engine? I've stomped v8 versions at the local strip over and over again with my 93 five speed. All I've done to it is add a chip and k&n filter. I'm sure you have a very nice car but it does not come close to catching the older ones. I've owned three, 95 auto, 94 auto and 93 five speed. The five speed version is the quickest of the three.
Written on: 03/03/2003
94-95 5sp should be the best! The earlier 93 and below didn't have all bugs worked out, not that they had any, but I mean the computers were a little bit different and if you want a true performer start with 94-95 or if you already have an older one you can do the conversion for a newer "brain". Stock 5sp sho's pull high 14's and low 14's with minor mods, while 96-up v8 sho does what? high 15's?
Written on: 04/03/2003
I agree the 94 and 95 shos I owned were alittle more refined in some areas but the 93 five speeed is alot stronger than the 94 and 95. Installing the chip and the kn filter really juiced it! I've got 138,000 miles on her now and have slowed down on racing. It's still hard not to give it a go when you have some competition pull up beside you at a light. These cars are such "sleepers"!I love seeing the "shock factor"on faces at the next light! I hope to make her last as long as I can. Mobil 1 has been used since it was new. My mechanic said my engine is the cleanest internally that he has ever seen. I've read that some people don't recommmend using Mobil 1 in the sho engine but I say it works. Anyway, even at this many miles I rarely ever have to add oil between changes and I change oil and filter every 5,000. Thanks for your reply and happy shoing!

The '94-'95 were indeed the most refined, but not in a manner that I am settled with. They still rattle, but lost the stiffer ride, the more aggressive suspension setup, gained quite a few pounds (Gen 2 in general), have too much of a euro look, and were mostly automatics that were notorious for failures. The sportiest SHOs were DEFINITELY the '89-'92 in that order. As the SHO grew older, it also grew up to become grown up and feels more tired.

Regardless, all the aftermarket is the same minus the multiple EEC alterations. I own a '89 now with a 3.2L w/ higher compression and just love it. Nothing beats a high 13sec 1/4mi taurus on all motor. :)

I see we have alot of v8 haters well i have a 99 ebony satin. Number 1 i have owned an 89mtx and a 95mtx with a 3.2L and to be honest with you v6ixers polls are just statistics. You can not compare a v6 to a v8 there is no comparison. Every v6 owner that has ridden in my 99 said they were totally amazed. Oh yeah and about those cams if you know anything about a v8 then you would know that most cam failures come from individuals using motor not recommened and not changing it properly. I have 109k hard miles on mine and no problems.
Written on: 22/10/2003
Hey v8 are u nuts. If you v8 sho has that many miles on it without, cam problems, you are the first buddy. The fact that you would say that one can't compare a V6 to a V8 shows that you have very little real knowledge about todays modern cars, cylinders my friend mean almost nothing in fuel injected cars. it all about torque and torque ratio. The V8 sho is nice and fast but definately not as fast as the V6. and for only about 12 or 13 more horse power it was a waste of time and money, all i needed to do was put a KN air filter on my car and I have almost the same amount of Horse power.

lol why are u guys trying to debate wither the v6 or v8 is better they are both great engines with there own little miss givins i perfer the v8 but it doesnt really matter when they both are about the same displacement which is what really counts but i believe there is more u can do with a v8 that puts alot less stress on the engine so stop acting like a bunch of whiners!

Ive got a 97 SHO myself with 97,000 miles on it. As far as the cam issue, Ford produced over 250,000 Gen III SHO's and there has only been about 200 reported cam failures. Large numbers indeed but not high enough to assume cam failures is definetly in the future for these cars. Just take care of it and if your that worried about it you can get them fixed for under 500 bucks. The v6 SHO's are a little quicker on paper but not noticeble in real world driving, plus the Gen III's make up for lack of acceleration with unsurpassed handling, braking, and luxury.
Written on: 12/12/2003
I own a white 91 and a white 97 and both cars are way to fast to be a taurus. As far as which one is faster, they are so close it will all depend on upgrades and the driver. The v6 is faster by a hair, but the 89 sho is also faster than any other year made including both motors not all v6 shos are the same the 89 has the least restrictions and is the fastest sho. If you don't believe me race one stock vs stock if the 89's driver is as good as you , you will lose.

I have a 1990 SHO with a stick, and I have to admit its engine is very advanced for its time. When you want to pass it's not a problem, but the only problem I have is that I want to shift it faster than it will syncronize into gear. The way I see it, I think that this car is definately just as good as any new sedan but only years older. My SHO goes 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and 15.5 ET @ 97 mph shifting reasonably. As long as you don't do burnouts or hard throttle on corners, you'll find that the tranny will last alot longer. I found it for very cheap so I have to keep working the minor bugs out. I highly recommend the SHO (especially 5 speed) to any buyer looking for luxury and power in a 4 door for such a small price.

I have driven everything from BMW to VW and I have yet to encounter an engine any nicer than the V6 Yamaha (at least under the $50k mark). Sure the car could be lighter, the tranny more fluid, the brakes better, but I thoroughly enjoy driving the SHO everyday. It will surely be hard to give up a sedan that has killed 5.0 stangs, modern sports sedans and riced-out imports (with only mods being k&n filter and intake "horn"), but I will welcome a more precisely engineered vehicle in the not-so-distant future. If Ford would have only put the yamaha in a different shell!

My friend has a beat up 89 Ford Taurus SHO. When we pull up to a sports car, they laugh. What: 'is this four door family looking sedan going to beat them in a race?' Well it happens all the time. With the right driver and mods this car has taken ricers though beefy Cameros. The element of surprise is the biggest plus with this car. It drives powerfully and tightly. From online classifieds i have found that these cars are the cheapest real sportcar out there. Great Burn out car! 35 ft... (read more)

The Ford Taurus SHO is not a real sports car. It has four doors!!! All the best sports cars in the world have only 2 doors. It's a luxuary sedan!
Speed does not make the car. Thats all it is, is a old persons, family car with a fast engine.
A mercury sable looks the same and it is not liked by anybody. By your definition a chevette would be the best car out there if it had a quick engine. It will never beat a camaro unless like you said, has the right MODS!! a Pinto could beat a camaro with the right mods, WHOOOOOO!

I recently picked up a 91 SHO, and bone stock it will smoke my friends' modded Civics and BMWs. It is a very surprisingly quick car, handles very sharply, and is a total sleeper. Basically, no one will see this car until you want them to, and then it is from a safe distance rearward :-) 4 doors or not, it is a powerful and well handling sports car.

I recently bought a 92 mtx sho from long beach motors, and i've never lost a race. except against a 1970 thunderbird with a 429 superjet engine and a raised tunnel ram. its a great car with a big back seat.

I own a '95 red Ford Taurus SHO ATX - a beautiful car. I only have a cold air kit on it at the moment but on www.shoshop.com or www.shotimes.com it tells to remove the air silencer cone out of the fenderwell to allow more air flow. A free helpful mod. (read more)

I have had the pleasure and fortune of owning 6 SHO's.
I owned (2) 1989's, (1) 1992, (1) 1993, (1)1994 and (1) 1998. They were all great. The V6 SHO (it was an 89)went beyond my expectations when I sold it with 175,000 miles and it still ran great. I feel that the V8 SHO is able to produce long lasting fun too. However my 98's ended short after a terrible accident (they are very safe). I currently have a 1992 with 112,000 miles on her. She only has begun her life with me, as the...

A great overall car with more good points than bad. A sleeper car that surprises a lot of other cars out there and not just off the line. A bargain for used car shoppers because they're actually worth more than the market sells them for. The engine alone is worth the price they go for. (read more)

I agree with the comments , the car is a true sleeper, I bought my 94 Ford Taurus SHO with 68000 miles at an auction for $2300.00 because everyone there thought it was a regular Taurus. What a sleeper this car is especially at the upper rpm ranges, it sounds like a V6 Ferrari.
Parts are very difficult to find and expensive.
I love the car , and that Yamaha engine.....Wow

I bought a 94 sho V6 about a month ago for $1200. The previous owner was the drummer in my band who just bought 1 2000 Volvo S80.- In other words, he gave it to me cheap because I needed the favor. He said that the only problem it's given is that it turns off randomly and you have to stop the car and turn it on again. I personally haven't encountered that problem and,in fact, I would like to put some cool stuff on it (it has 110,00 miles). IT'S NICE AND QUICK!!-That's what I like @ it.

I have a '93 SHO ATX with 99,000 miles and it runs like the first day I drove it. Accelerates very hard after 4000 rpm all the way to red line at 7000 rpm. You can run to 100 mph and never hit the power band. It is a very fun car to drive and sound great once you get it above 4000 rpm (especialy after you remove the silencer cone). What I want to know is if their is any body out there with an SHO that has a JET Chip in it, it claims to make as much as 30hp but i don't want to spend my $315 on... I think the Ford Taurus SHO is an awesome car. It has a lot of power and can keep up and pass most of the other cars out there. My '95 model has 102,000 miles and i had a lot of work done for car shows. Every big show i go to i take first place. (read more)

I would recommend this Ford Taurus SHO if you want a quick, sporty, good commuter car. It won't beat a late-model GT or Z28 but you will get their respect. It will, however, smoke all these import boy's with their stupid sounding exhausts and their cookie cutter spoilers. So if you want the ultimate sleeper check it out. (read more)

I AGREE 100% THE CAR IS VERY FUN TO DRIVE AND OF COURSE IT IS A SLEEPER. THE CAR IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO OWN, BUT ONCE YOU OWN ONE YOU WILL APPRECIATE IT AND GROW TO LOVE IT NO MATTER WHAT IT COST IN MAINTIENCE. I AM A PROUD OWNER OF A 1994 SHO AND IT IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE. I PLAN ON OWNING MY SHOW UNTIL WHO KNOW WHEN..

The Ford Taurus is an excellent car for the younger crowd. Sporty enough to satisfy every teenage boys need, yet practical enough to allow them to give friends rides. Buy low miles!!! The Ford Taurus SHO - not enough I can say about the car. My 91 SHO is running like a champ at 230,000 miles, yes no joke, 230,000.... the yamaha engine imo is one of the best if not the best engine ever made. the car stops when u push the brakes, accelerates when you hit the gas, turns when u turn, does everything there is possible. If you aren't satisfied with the stock performance throw about 4,000 into it and you'll find yourself corning like high end sport cars, accelerating faster... (read more)

I have put over $13,000 into my perfect 91 SHO and I can only seem to get 250 to 300 miles out of an 18.4 gallon tank which doesn't seem like good gas mileage to me, especially for the money it cost's to fill that big gas tank. Also I don't seem to agree that they handle very well either. But that might just be. If you get great gas mileage and your SHO can corner like sports car then more power to you. Mabee I'm just picky about my SHO but I put alot of money into every part of my SHO and I wish it would even handle as good as a mustang.

I don't know why you are getting such poor gas mileage on your SHO. I have a '94 mtx with some serious modifications done at the ShoShop in California which has bumped up the HP to about 330 or so. The car was a gift from my Houston based family and I had to drive it the 2000 miles back to Toronto. I drive at 60-65 mph and was AMAZED at the SUPERB mileage. The SHO got over 31 mpg and over 400 miles per tank of gas. I love the car. I've owned BMW's, Mustang, Cadillac, Mercedes. Toyota, and a slew of company cars. This car is right up there with the best. It is certainly FUN to drive. VAAARRROOOOOOMMMMMM!

You're right on most of your stuff but I owned a 91 Mustang GT and it was faster off the line and on the go.The SHO will stay with it however it can't beat a pre '94 unless you surprise them.A '91 GT was clocked at 6.3 0-60 and the LX's were about 6.1 0-60.The best they got out of a SHO was 6.6 but they normally run about 6.8.Check the stats online.Still very fast for a 4-door car with a small engine and alot of weight.I know I own a 94 MTX with 106K on it and it runs almost as fast as when I bought it and I've beaten pre-96 Mustang GT's and Camaros and Vettes and it will even stay a car length behind a newer 'Stang. As far as looks go I dont understand your comments but its your opinion.Personally it's one of the most handsome 4-door cars to come out in the last 20 years maybe ever.It has personality beyond anything Chevy makes in a 4-door or any of the Asian autos made.Unfortunately they ruined it with the 96-99 models but a good thing can't last forever and the few of us who do own an SHO know these cars are very special.Only the BMW 5 series is nicer looking but for 2 or 3 times the price.

A lot of racing has to do with the driver. On the street, when Joe Smoe races, Tenths of seconds on take off won't win the race. I realize in real competition this make a huge differnce. If cars are fairly evenly matched the driver that drives with more conviction is going to win. Any real sports car, with the right mods, could spank the SHO. By the way, I think they can be atractive cars.
