Good Points: Fresh produce; value for money
Bad Points: Inexperienced staff
General comments: Generally I am against family dining out on Sunday as almost invariably you end up paying a small fortune for mass produced/frozen rubbish and the restaurants resent you bringing your childen (despite being "Family" friendly!)
I had frequented Mackworths Diner in its daytime guise as a not-so greasy spoon. The decor is pleasant and clean (apart from the windows!) and the staff welcoming and friendly. A young boy and girl were at front of house and I rather thought they had been left a bit high and dry by the proprietors, particularly with a group of 14 who had pre-booked.
There is no alcohol so its BYO for a small corkage fee.
2 course lunch was £9.95, for children this was £7.95, perhaps it should have been a bit less for the latter. Beef (I think it was rib roast), chicken and lamb all well prepared and tasty. Plentiful veg, including a delightful cauliflower cheese, brocolli, cauli, peas, carrots, fine beans, mash, roast pots and parsnips.
Plates not big enough (looked a bit tired) and not warmed.
Treacle tart and bread and butter pud were again home cooked but not served hot.
Overall the basics are there but service needs to improve, particularly if it gets busy.
