Very friendly staff. Treated you like a real guest or friend. Nothing was out of the question. Simple, no stress, easy going. Excellent large, supermarket across the road. We really liked the hotel and the staff were very friendly, particularly the bar staff and those on reception. The entertainment in the bar of an evening was a good laugh. Very good! Had a really lovely time, all staff were friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of food and we enjoyed visiting the other restaurants on site. There were a selection of activities day and night if you wanted and great fun on the slides. Maintenance work was not a problem as long as hammering and drilling started after 9! Funchal is the nearest match we have found to a 'Cape-town' or 'Rio' type holiday in Europe. We arrived on the day of the carnival (Saturday before Shrove Tuesday), what an impressive show!! We loved the Botanical Gardens and the cable car ride. Next time we visit we hope to do levada walks in the mountains. (read more)
