My own mistake for giving it a second chance, bad enough the first time, but being fair I returned, truly, truly awful, only giving it one star as the quant setting and surroundings warrant that, but apart from that its a washout, countless staff more interested in texting and talking than serving the customers and seeing to their needs or requests. Then dishing up to the table with 'carefully selected local produce' well if it is whoever is in the kitchen must have a real grudge with the... (read more)

I've been visiting the Strawberry Duck pub for many years for the good food but since the chef changed a few months ago, the menu has become very limited and the selection and value of the sandwiches at lunch time is particularly awful. We always called into the pub after a long walk and looked forward to the wide choice of good value sandwiches e.g. home cooked ham and beef. Now they serve a small selection of mainly "open sandwiches" which seems to mean an excuse to serve you one slice... (read more)

I went to Strawberry Duck for and we had been before and had no problems. On this occasion though, we sat in the restaurant and were treated to foul, loud language and blaring music coming from the kitchen. My wife having ordered fish and chips (Lasagne un-available) and discovered short black hair in her meal. The bar lady was very apologetic and offered a alternative or refund for the meal and we took the refund. It seemed very unprofessional on their part and I dare to say I wouldn't... (read more)

I appreciate that we landed during what appeared to be the pub's busiest hours (dinner), but even so... After paying a total of £22 for two sandwiches, two 'plates' of chips (for £2.75 each I expected something more substantial than the two teeny weeny saucers served) and "three individual pots of tea" (we got three cups but only one pot), our food arrived SEVENTY mins later...but only after informing the 2nd waitress of its being late. The 1st one, a foreign lady, ignored our 'where is... (read more)

First time, very impessed, food outstanding for pub food. Like the way local produce is used. Most enjoyable evening, staff very friendly, no long waits in between courses. Excellent and first class. We were introduced to the Strawbury Duck by friends who go at lunch time. Six of us dined last night. Keep up the good work it is worth travelling from Eccles, Manchester. My partner and I went here last night for a meal and the food was so great that I felt compelled to write a review. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome from the guys behind the bar and given the choice of tables to suit our 'mood'. There is an amble choice of food on the menu as well as the specials board and the local providence of the food is proudly... (read more)

We visited The Strawberry Duck 8 months ago and were disappointed then. I ordered Potted Duck expecting either traditional potted meat or a confit but instead was served plain strips of duck in a pot. It was literally 'potted duck' and also a joke. Other things were wrong with meal that day, too much potato and not enough filling in the fish pie for example and nothing that was outstanding. We did not want to review the pub negatively then, wanting to give it a chance as a new business in... (read more)

The strawbury duck serves what I like to describe as 'Posh Pub Food'. The portions are big enough for a large Elk to go home feeling full and the food is more tasty than megan fox covered in Chocolate. There is a predominant theme of local producers to the menu, especially there pork which they breed themselves(Which came as little of a surprise),.the gammon was massive and probably the tastiest ive ever had! The most expensive meal on the menu is a rump steak £16.00, which I will be going...

Fantastic pub, the bad comments make me laugh! I am a local chef and know Adam and matt (the owners), they rear their own pigs, use the best suppliers locally and I can honestly say, they make everything from scratch! (mushy peas- marrowfat peas are home made)! The problem with the pub is how busy it gets at the weekend during the day- Let's be honest the pub has only been open 6 months and is packed out- obviously people need to chill out!!! We had wonderful Mother's Day lunch for 10 of us (&4young children). Staff were very accomodating and keen to help with high chairs, extra plates for children, sauces etc. Food was delicious, well priced and served quickly (even on one of their busiest days of the year). We loved the atmosphere and setting and had previously enjoyed a lovely walk around the reservoir, before sitting down to a delicious lunch. We'll be back! (read more)

Overpriced, Cheese and Onion Pie,chips and Mushy (tinned) peas...£8.95
There was a 35 + minute wait for the food, with only one couple in before us....and was served ...warm.
The 'Pie' was huge, far too much pastry, which was mediocure. The cheese and onion filling was quite tasty....the Mushy peas were tinned and not hot....The chips were greasey, soggy and overcooked....

After reading the mixed reviews I was a little hesitant about going but liked the location so decided to give it a try. It was a busy Sunday afternoon about 4pm. We didn't have to wait for a table and the food was served promptly by very pleasant staff. The bar staff were also very friendly, which was not what I expected from the reviews. Lovely place, nice staff. I visited with my partner and some friends for food and drinks. My boyfriend ordered one of the most expensive things on the menu (mutton with bubble and squeak) and was utterly disappointed.
The portion was half the size of the rest of ours, didn't come wth any veg, just a small amount of unseasoned mashed potato, which was supposed to be the bubble and squeak (no cabbage?!), and quite frankly we could have made it better ourselves, for a fraction of the cost....

From what we saw, not sure what some of the other reviews are on about; didn't tally with our experience. 80% of the menu "read" well, and the ones we chose were excellent. This was our first visit after the pub had reopened, and we were very impressed with the friendly service, and the usual, well-stocked bar with beers.

What a lovely surprise at the end of a windy road in the middle of nowhere! We went there on a Saturday afternoon for a small bite to eat and were welcomed by a countrypub full of character, friendly and professional staff and treated ourselves to the best fish finger sandwich I've ever had (the fish fingers were in fact actual fish fried in batter and not your usual suspect from the supermarket).
