I had an awful flight with Air Brunei. Apart from the food being rubbish and the being seats only OK, my media system was screwed and I needed to get out of my seat TWICE to fetch a steward as they IGNORED the bell that I pressed at least four times... to no avail. And yet, even after physically getting out of my middle seat and speaking to attendants, I was still ignored and nobody seemed to care. Only when one good stewardess took notice of my infuriation did they try to fix it, but to no... (read more)

First time I have RB, and to be honest quite impressed for the price I paid. The planes are a little old, been told they lease older stock from Singapore Airlines. The entertainment was limited, but worked ok, The food was excellent, Cabin Staff friendly and attentive. The one hour stop in Dubai was a little chaotic, and can imagine some passengers getting lost as they try to find their way back to the plane. Brunei Airport has very few facilities ...including NO SMOKING ROOM...so beware,... (read more)

This is the first time i have used Royal Brunei and must admit for a low budget airline the food ,assistance and nature or the staff was superb other than my gripe below I have only one moan and that is i asked the air hostess as there were available seats further down the plain if i could move and was told this would not be a problem and to wait a second to then see 2 other people who got on the plain after me move to the seats ,when i asked what was happening i was told they moved... I just took my 14-hours London-Brunei flight with this airline. It's a total disappointment! My inflight entertainment (the video set) did not work. I asked the cabin crew to fix the system & they rebooted the system 3 times but still couldn't get it to come alive! Worse still, they do not follow up with the issues. My friend and I are facing the same problem with the inflight entertainment and yet they only manage to find 1 vacant seat with functioning inflight entertainment for either... (read more)

I had exactly the same problem and the stewards ignored me. I had to get out of my seat twice to get their attention and even then they didn't care to do anything. There aren't enough stewards on the flights, which seems unsafe to me. I'll only fly with this airline again if they're MUCH cheaper than the next option. Treat Royal Brunei like a budget airline and you'll be satisfied. Compare to Emirates or a similar carrier, and you'll be hugely disappointed.

Have flown a few times with Royal Brunei now and must say the service for price is the best i've encountered anywhere. The only thing some may find off putting is the fact it is a "Dry" airline but this didn't worry me and all other aspects of my dealings with them have been very positive. I'll definately fly with them again. (read more)

On each leg of the flight there was no choice of meals available. I understand this can happen on ocassion but for it to happen for every meal was disapointing. When breakfast arrived not only was there only one option but it was served COLD, which I'm sure you can appreciate is not the most plesant way to eat an omlete/scrambled egg. When I asked if there were any snacks (as I could not eat a cold egg) I was told there was nothing and not even an apology was offered. I have emailed and... (read more)

It came as a shock to find out that Royal Brunei does not serve alcohol - agent didn't say when booking. Not normally a problem but planning to celebrate New Years at 30,000 feet dry was a curious concept! Phoned and told that we could bring our own drinks on board. Not told that the customs/police in Brunei would subsequently confiscate everything! But leaving this aside, the Business class seats were uncomfortable and the service was patchy. The food, particularly on the last leg, was... (read more)

I was flying from HK to Brunei on Brunei airline and have asked for a blanket because it was a bit cold in the plane which is normal in most planes. But I have to asked the same person twice before receiving any response. Then because he told such a long time to get me a blanket, I have taken my scarf out which at the end I ended up leaving it behind in the plane. That I have to admit is my own fault. But when I have called the plane immediately once I found out when I got to the hotel. But... (read more)

After seeing other reviews we were slightly dubious about flying with Royal Brunei Airline but for the price we figured we could live with it! As it turned out both legs of our flight in both directions were absolutely fine. Decent food - yes so it may not be 'English' food but it was perfectly edible. Our in-flight entertainment screens worked throughout the whole journey. Cabin and check-in staff were polite and efficient. We were even lucky enough on our 2nd outbound leg to get a row of... Skytrax published my unfavourable comments about RBA. Flight crew on return leg aware of Skytrax comments and asked for my full NZ address which I supplied. One night enforced stopover in BSB OK. I flew from London to Brisbane with Brunei very recently, and on the journey out, I was unaware of the fact that the food would be completely inedible, the vegetarian option consisting purely of slimy courgettes and carrots which tasted like washing powder, three times a day. I had to endure the most revolting courgette panini for breakfast and at that point, I gave up on the idea of eating anything for the rest of my flight. I found this review not helpful because...this passenger found fault with everything. He spoke of Brunei as an Island with 600 people???? Get your facts right. I have flown on this airline, and whilst it is not 100% perfect.. Which one is?? it does not deserve such comments. Come on Brit, why on earth did you choose to fly with a non european airline. Himmm ever heard of the expression "Pong of the poms". Just realise how other people feel...sitting next to you.

I found this review very helpful because it details the niggles one knows are coming given that the experience is generally rated (online) as sub-par, using colourful language. It even made me laugh out loud on occasion. Thank you for taking the time to provide this account - I think the extra $200 will be a price to avoid this airline. I imagine the excess use of air freshener is a response to the negative comments re: toilet smells; a nasty way to avoid the cost of proper aircon maintenance/upgrades. And I would find this very oppressive and discomforting as well.
<br/>"Wilfred" - you don't respond to any of the specific issues, and you waste half your words racially insulting the author-this comment should be deleted.

Booked AKL -KUL return via BWN February 2010 direct with RBA. Itinerary changed 3 times 2 weeks before departure in June. Changes ruined my 60th birthday arrangements with family in Malaysia. Food atrocious. All legs late flights. Arrived BWN 0050 on return leg. Transit desk had hand written note 'we are closed'. Needed documentation & details of hotel for enforced stopover. The Boeing 767 flew smoothly. The hostesses and stewards were polite and hard working.Water, tea, coffee, fruit juice, soft drinks and food were brought around often.
The in- flight entertainment system was easy to use and the latest movies were available. The music was good .It was difficult to sleep for long because passengers and crew walked up the aisles often.
I have flown with other airlines and overall I was pleasantly surprised
with Royal Brunei.

A bit hesitant booking a flight from Royal Brunei Airlines. I have checked some of the reviews and most of them are not good. But to my surprise I am very happy with the service, the crew we're brilliant!

flights ran on time. I am disabled and was stranded in Brunei during the recent Volcanic disruption. My care and the update information I received could not have been bettered. I'd read a lot of bad reviews after booking, but was pleasantly surprised; in fact I would rate Royal Brunei as good as Emirates for service, comfort, food and courtesy. There were two things that were not so good: no alcohol (but I can manage 7 hrs without a drink!) and an entertainment system in which some passengers find their screens break down during the flight. However the choice of films was excellent and I watched 2 new releases on the return flight. We had a 2hr delay on the return... (read more)

Brunei was my favourite airline until recently, they've been going downhill since last year. We went to Dubai beginning of this year and it was the worst experience ever! Flew London- Dubai- Brunei- Brisbane Return March/April 2008. This is definitely the worst airline I have flown from beginning to end. Not such a disaster as I have read from many below but an unpleasant journey nonetheless. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Ryal Brunei Airlines was the best we've ever travelled with. It was our longest flight too, with a stopover in Dubai. 1 hour, enough time to do a bit of shopping in the huge duty-free. In my view Yes ideally the In Flight entertainment system should work but just like the loo’s they don’t always work as intended.
But asking the cabin crew to fix it is a bit like asking them to fly the plane all they can do and did do was to reboot it and see if that fixed it, apart from that there is nothing they can do & only a
Engineer could fix it, its a budget airline don’t expect miracles , all they can do is flag it as a fault
& hopefully it will be looked at after all the essential plane maintenance is done, don’t think you
will find in flight entertainment is a right its just an extra they provide & people have got use to having...
