Kenmore HE2 front loading washing machine. We purchased our washing machine just under 6 years ago. We started having problems about 6 months ago. We got an F28 error which really doesn't tell you much. I spent hours scouring the internet to see if we could fix it ourselves. We called a local appliance repairman but he really couldn't do much except start replace components (computer controls) until he found what was wrong, we opted out of that approach. Bought the washer and dryer together. Only 1 problem with the dryer within the first yr, warranty covered the repair. Washer, that is another thing. I had sears techs here one time in the first yr. (after 6mos.) to fix an issue and this service was covered. The washer worked for another 6 mos and had the exact same issue (mother board?) can't remember the exact name. Just bought the Kenmore He2 washer USED for less than the cost of an extended service plan on a new washer and couldn't be more excited about doing laundry :P Despite all the negative reviews we went ahead and purchased this washer after seeing it work at the seller's home. I have had this Kenmore HE2 washer and dryer set for 6 years and have no major problems with it. The only fault I have found was the filter is tough to get to and empty. Works great for average soiled clothes. Not that great for mechanics clothes without a scrubbing before. The only service call I had to make was when it wouldnt drain and thats when I discovered the filter so no major repair yet. I am surprised that there are so many problems with other reviews. What a piece of garbage! Everything ends up in the pump and this burns out in a few months if not checked every month. I have put in 2 pumps at 100 plus each. Very bad design!
Needs to be adjusted a lot too or it takes off on its own across the floor...stay away!

I'm surprised to see all the issues some are having. We have had our's for 6 years, and have never had an issue. Would buy again. We purchased the warranty, but never had to utilize it.
The only downside is the ripoff for the "stands". They should come with this. I refused to buy them.

I have owned the Kenmore HE2 for nearly five years. We have the extended warranty and from the beginning we had to call in service. It spills all over my floor. They say it is because it is overloaded, but I do not have to have even three shirts in the washer to have it spill out and flood my room. Every time service comes to take care of it, they have some strange excuse for why it does what it does, always blaming me, but I have never had issues with any other washer and dryer I have... Had my Kenmore HE2 Washing Machine for over 3 years. When it works, it works well; however, the key word is "When". Flooding, Not draining, Now codes flashing = "Sud" & F35 (which is not in my book--imagine that!). I can't believe that I paid this much money for such a poorly performing product. I will NEVER purchase another Kenmore product and highly recommend that anyone considering purchasing a Kenmore, to run fast. (read more)

HE2 must mean high maintenance. What a piece of junk. We have owned ours for 3 years and have had several repairs under warranty. The board went again and we have been looking at our new shelf for over 2 months. Never seen such terrible customer service from Sears. No more Sears shopping for me. Their solution is to buy ours back at a reduced price and get another one from them. I love Sears. Buyers beware. You cannot depend on Sears to service what they sell. They do not care... (read more)

I've had this for four years years, it's been fixed (on average) twice a year, a couple of years 5 times or more. When it works, it works great. I've actually purchased spare parts directly from Sears and keep them on hand in my home. When it breaks, the repair is virtually instantaneous. By the way, trying to get Sears sales support at a store is impossible. Never again. Oh yes, extended warranty on everything. Would have been THOUSANDS to own this appliance w/o it! (read more)

In my life,I have never owned anything that was broken down so often as the Kenmore HE2. Had home service out numerous times while under warranty. Lucky to use it 2 or 3 times between breakdowns. My wife opts to go to the laundymat on many occasions just for the piece of mind knowing the clothes will actually get washed rather than gamble on a hope and a prayer that the Kenmore wont leave her hanging. I just want to write a review because everyone else seem to only write reviews when they have a problem.
I've had the HE2 for 3 years.
Not one service call.
It is used by 4 or 5 different apartments using the wrong soap etc.
I'm surprised and very satisfied.

Have had this machine for less than a year. Thank God my wife got the extended warranty. Repairman changed door handle still didn't fix it. Repairman ordered a control board. Part went on back order. Went to Sears and talked to the manager. Ended up exchanging it for the exact model. We'll see how this one works. With the money I spent at the laundrymat and the pedestal and extended warranty I could have purchased old reliable. (read more)

It is ridiculous to pay the amount of money for this type of washer and have it break down so often, so soon. We have the same type of dryer too and have had to have work done on that as well. Our first washing machine went out after 4 loads. We called Sears and they told us since we didn't have an extended warranty they couldn't do anything. I had to fight with them to get a service guy out since the machine was only 2 weeks old. They told me it was the control board and it would be 2 weeks before they could fix it. We purchased this Kenmore HE2 Washer in Sept 06. Within months they were coming out to replace the rubber seal around the door. Now the washer will not drain, receiving F1 and 5D error msgs and all the lights blink at one time. Would at first allow me to reset it by turning it off and then on but now it wont do anything. I have to wring the clothes out to get the water out of them. I gave up and purchased a new LG washer instead. (read more)

We have only had the Kenmore HE2 washing machine for 3 years and have had it flood 3 times. Something my sales person said couldn't happen. Now it is making a loud sound, flooding and Not spinning. If I had seen this page before I purchased my Kenmore HE2 front load washer I would've run from Sears like a bat outta hell! We are just starting to run into the error readings and the fact that the machine won't finish a cycle. The whole reason we bought it was because it was supposed to use less water, a great thing as we are on a well. Bought a Kenmore He2 back about 2005. I think it was in the first 3 months that the motor pulley slipped off the motor shaft--it's just a round shaft and there's not even a key way. Technician said it was just a friction fit. We actually had to get the machine replaced through the "lemon law". We purchased the Kenmore HE2 in early 2008. The door broke the 2nd week we had it and had to go 1 1/2 weeks without a washing machine since a part needed to be ordered. I don't feel like our clothes are being cleaned, our towels smell and my husbands shirts and jeans smell too. Had this just over one year now and it is the worst machine we ever had. With all the controls and options you would think you could set it to drain. It's loud, it breaks and won't always finish loads w/o a trouble code. Twice it wouldn't fill and flooded the floor now it won't drain. Can't wait for it to gasp it's last breath so I can replace it with a top loader and spend less time in the basement trying to make it wash! (read more)

I love my Kenmore HE2. I pack it full, use the "express" cycle--30 minutes (which usually is more like 35). Clothes get clean. I pre-treat stains and use Amway's SA8 (or whatever name it's called now). I use vinegar in the softener side, and I hang my clothes up instead of using a dryer. I feel I am doing all I can to help combat washing machine pollution. The remaining time on the display isn't always accurate. Tack on at least five minutes. The new front-loaders are nice to look at, but the top-loading machines are much more dependable & practical. Have had the machine (Kenmore H2Plus series) for about 20 months and the gasket has broken, thus giving us a floor-full of water. I can remember having top-loading machines that ran for YEARS without having problems. I think I'll go back to the old-timers, much more dependable and quiet! (read more)

We have had problems with our Kenmore washing machine ever since last June. Won't finish a cycle, have to reset it and spin out the water, the pump went bad, motor board went bad, had to replace the front panel, and the list goes on. It takes Sears about a Month to Month and half to fix each problem and they never come out with the parts. Don't buy this Machine or anything from Sears if you want a speedy fix. (read more)

After purchase of the Kenmore HE2 washing machine , the order and delivery instructions were mishandled 3 times. It is noisy, vibrates and the electronic module went bad in 18 months.
Terrible service, technician arrived without the parts, had them UPS'ed to our house a week later, but could not come back to install for another week. My family and I will not shop Sears again, even if they GIVE their stuff away.

We got the H2 because of all the features, but I want to cry thinking about getting rid of my old washer. The H2 has been nothing but problems. It wont drain after it runs, so I am stuck ringing out all the clothes after every wash. Sears isn't quick about getting a repair man out here. It may or may not be a balance issue, but the thing is so heavy that its not a quick fix. It doesn't have self adjusting feet like my old washer had. I wish I never got it.
