Good Points: I have used lots of tools in my 85 years, and hedge trimmers were right in there. My last trimmer was a sidebar sickle arrangement that worked very well, but can't hold a candle to my new Garden Groom Pro'. My new Garden Groom Pro is the answer to hedge trimming, It not only does a great job of trimming, but almost eliminates the cleanup afterwards. I am impressed with the engineering in the machine. You did very well. It has cut half an hour off of the hedge trim task time.
Bad Points: I have not discovered any bad points as yet.
General comments: I truly appreciate the Garden Groom even as my 85th birthday present. I used it right away on our pyrocantha hedge, and fell in love with it. Later on I trimmed our two cyprus bushes which have been a bear to handle in the past. Garden Groom made this a much simpler task. I just love the way it tackles the heavier stems. And the way it gathers the cuttings is wonderful.
Please don't try to improve anything. It's wonderful just the way it is.

When cutting hedges with the Garden Groom along side beds, a colllection sheet is still required for collecting some of the cuttings, The flexible extension hose blocks up and has to be shaken to free it,the extension tube will block if the cuttings are slightly damp, the machine is cumbersome, heavy , hardwork and awkward to use, it is certainly not quicker or easier to use than a conventional electric or petrol cutter and does not give as good a finish as a conventional cutter, Having pointed ...

I don't think the Garden Groom is suitable for fast growing hedges like hawthorn (unless you enjoy cutting the hedge every few days)Heavy and hands get tired holding in the two switches. A petrol hedge cutter is a better buy and there is no cable to tangle with.

The Garden Groom may work if you have one hedge. I have hedges along the front of my house. When I received the unit I decided to give it a try. For one half of the shrubs I attempted to use the garden groom. I spent four hours using it with poor results.
The next day (it was hot outside) I used my regular trimmer and touched up where I used the garden groom and completed the second half. This took less than two hours and included cleanup from both sides.
With the high shipping and handlin ...

Providing your hedge has nothing thicker than 3mm the Garden Groom is OK, however if like me you are keeping conifers in check (1year growth) then spend 30 minutes tidying up & give this a miss. My 3rd has just packed up on me half way through trimming the conifers. The 1st the drive belt came through the top (manufacturing fault) the 2nd the motor burnt out (faulty motor).

The Garden Groom is the best tool I've bought in a while! As a hedge trimmer it is really easy to use. Cuts through shrubby like butter! The only thing that makes me give it a 9 and not a 10 is that it does not trim right down to the ground. Other than that I fully recommend the Garden Groom to friend, neighbour and anyone else looking for a good hedge trimmer!

Generally speaking, it is trial and error with the Garden Groom Hedge Trimmer as with anything new, and used for the first time. But very very good otherwise. Make sure you keep an eye on the hose and shake it into the bag at regular intervals, keep the bag behind you and the cutter, with enough room for the hose not to twist.

My second midi has just died on me. The first was replaced by the manufacturer but I am not going to bother this time. They both lasted about a year but I have worked them quite hard since we have about 600 feet of box and yew hedges. I am going to get the pro version and hope it lasts longer.

I purchased a Garden Groom Midi a few months ago, and I have been really pleased with my buy. It saves so much time and effort not having to collect the clippings. It's lightweight as well. I find many other trimmers too heavy, but this is great and easy to use, and it gives an excellent finish to my hedge!

I am absolutely made up with my Garden Groom Pro! It takes half the time to trim my hedge now, and I'm not left with the back breaking chore of picking up the clippings. I would recommend the Garden Groom to anyone with a hedge!

I think the Garden Groom is excellent. I have had my machine for about a year now and have had no problems with it at all. It trims my Leylandi hedge perfectly and the best bit is that I don't have to pick up the bits afterwards. Brilliant idea!

You are far better off buying a long reach hedge trimmer for about the same money which is easier and faster to use. You will have cut the hedge and gathered up the cuttings on a long hedge, far quicker than using the Garden Groom,...believe me. After 3 uses, I sold mine at a car boot for £40.00 and to be frank, was glad to see it go.

I believe that Garden Groom Garden Groom is the best thing since sliced bread; the only thing better is if someone cut my hedge for me! I have used it on a variety of hedges and I can now avoid scratching myself, especially when collecting up lots of spiked bits from my Hawthorn hedge. I would recommend this to anyone who finds conventional trimmers nerve-wrecking and would rather spend their time sitting in a well "groomed" garden, as apposed to annoyingly picking up debris for hours on end.

The Garden Groom Hedge Trimmer is a great idea in theory, but not robust enough in the real world! It looks great, but it suffers because of the very cheap plastic construction. The blade and centre bolt broke after just 4 uses. I can't see it being any good for anything but the softest hedges. It is expensive to send back for repair or replacement, and how long will the next one last?

If you break a blade or the internal spinning disk on the Garden Groom (Helix I think its called) that the blades connected to - don't expect an easy time. Mine broke after very careful use on a privet hedge. I was a told by a service engineer that it required you to remove 32 screws in total and even then you are unlikely to have the kind of screwdriver in your standard kit.
Before you get taken in by all the hype surrounding it ask a number of questions before you buy. Is your hedge very so ...

Very lightweight, mostly constructed from plastic and broke down within a few hours. I would suspect that the Garden Groom is really only fit for use for the first cut of a hedge, which makes it an expensive white elephant.
Zero support from the manufacturer.
