I would have expected better quality from a field leading company and I have written to them to this effect - am still awaiting reply.

Easy to fill and filters quickly. Unlike earlier version using original Brita filter cartridges, this uses Maxtra catridges which filter quicker than the water can boil. This means you can fill the kettle, turn it on and go away and it won't boil while dry. The hinged mechanism that you press to open the lid so that the filter part can be filled with water becomes stiff after a while and finally gives up after about 2 years.

We live in a hard water area of the country, and have suffered with bad tasting coffee for months. Eventually, after descaling my kettle every second day, I threw it in the tip and went and bought my Breville JK66 Combined Water Filter / Kettle.

The kettle takes a Brita filter Maxtra cartridge, and it is meant to last for about 4 weeks. The cartridges average at about £10 for 3. Not bad value! The cartridges are easy to install and easy to get hold off. Most large shops stock them.
