I bought this as a gift to my mother as she lives in a hard water area and thought the filtering of the water would help her and her brew making. I have returned one within a 12 month period and the other one has become faulty outside of the 12 months warranty. We subsequently picked her a different kettle now. I just read the reviews and didnt realise that this had a 2 year guarantee this was sneakily hid and in essence i've thrown this out when not knowing this. Stay away from this kind of... (read more)

I have just returned my third Brita kettle and obtained a refund. The first one had a problem with the on/off switch, the second and third leaked. It is a smart looking kettle but not up to the job.
I HAVE ONLY JUST FOUND OUT THIS HAS A 2 YEAR GUARANTEE from the manufacturer so be firm with your retailer as I had to be.

After 2 months the kettle boiled itself dry!! We always boiled a kettle just as we went to bed for baby milk through the night, only to find the kettle was mysteriously empty in the morning. Turns out it never stopped cutting out once at boiling point and everything in the kitchen had a good steaming. Was the most expensive kettle in the store when we bought it at £50 ! i just hope we can now find the receipt! Steer well clear. (read more)

Easy to fill and filters quickly. Unlike earlier version using original Brita filter cartridges, this uses Maxtra catridges which filter quicker than the water can boil. The hinged mechanism that you press to open the lid so that the filter part can be filled with water becomes stiff after a while and finally gives up after about 2 years. (read more)

We live in a hard water area of the country, and have suffered with bad tasting coffee for months. Eventually, after descaling my kettle every second day, I threw it in the tip and went and bought my Breville JK66 Combined Water Filter / Kettle.
The kettle takes a Brita filter Maxtra cartridge, and it is meant to last for about 4 weeks. The cartridges average at about £10 for 3. Not bad value! The cartridges are easy to install and easy to get hold off. Most large shops stock them.
