I reckon there is too much guff written about speakers given the music you end up listening to when you get trapped by an audiophile. These do the job and are quite nice to look at. (read more)

I own a couple of sets of these, one set i bought from Richer Sounds quite some time ago, they sound great if they're set up right with a decent amp. I have an old NAD that serves them well. The second set i picked up on eBay for next to nothing and are also doing good service. I use these in a home setting as well as alternative reference monitors in my studio, they're well balanced and a good all rounder. Tannoy are a great brand, i would imagine most of their range is acceptable but... (read more)

Oh dear. How diappointed can one be. These little speakers have some great reviews. I am very very unhappy with the pair I just got for a bargain 30 quid from ebay. To be honest it wont be long until they are back there. They have a very annoying point in the range where due to standing waves, inside the light weight cabinet, certain mid bass notes are too load and overpoweringly prominent. The only way to overcome this is to drive them hard and loud. Easy listening at lower volumes is... (read more)

Having auditioned many speakers - some over £1000 a pair - I decided on the Mercury F3 customs on the basis that if you get what you pay for then these would be adequate for my needs. How astonished I was that they exceeded my expectations by a large margin! On mainly classical music of varying complexity and scale these proved subtle, poised speakers with no vices, producing a neutral, stable and expansive sound stage. Not only worth every penny, but there's nothing I've heard to touch them... (read more)

I have two Mercury M1 speakers astride my TV, part of a surround system. The sound quality is superb. (read more)

I've owned these Tannoy Mercury speakers for about 10 years now and am still very very happy with them. They produce a beautiful full sound for a very reasonable price. Although I wouldn't classify myself as an "audiophile" I have done a lot of work in the audio industry and have worked with some very high end equipment. For the price of these speakers I would highly recommend them. (read more)

Bought a pair of Tannoy Mercury on Ebay that were like new and had seen little use, the general idea was to replace my aging Altec Lansing 4.1 setup. The rest of my setup consists of an X-Fi Extreme music, Rega Planar 2 with Ortofon 2M Red, Pro-Ject Phono Box and a Cambridge Audio A1 amplifier. Luckily I had been given some half decent speaker cable and interconnects, so I was set to go...........
First impressions were not good, the bass sounded very muddy and confused on the first MP3 I...

Add a bit of wallop to the general PC sound with any amplifier. But still at £50 and with a great sound it is easy to recommend the Tannoy Mercury. (read more)

The Tannoy Mercury are fantastic speakers for the price. I'm buying someone a pair for Christmas as I'm so happy with the ones I have. Great sounds and with enormous range! They're small, compact and stylish too. (read more)

I found this review not helpful because...

I seem to have had my Tannoy Mercury stereo speakers forever. They never let me down. They are easy to drive and accommodate, and they sound much bigger than they are, and show musical maturity way beyond their rivals.
They now support the rear in a second home cinema set up. I just can not let them go. On auction sites these go for as little as £30, which is a hi fi bargain of monumental proportions!

I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY OWN PAIR OF TANNOY MERCURY M1.
I JUST CONNECTED THEM TO A NAD310 INTEGRATED ALONG WITH A NAD STEREO TUNER 412. THE ROOM THEY PLAY IS QUITE SMALL AND IT SERVES AS A STUDY. THE LOT ARE CONNECTED TO THE TOWER OF MY COMPUTER AND THE OUTCOME IS MAGIC!!
BOTTOM LINE. IT DEPENDS OF THE ROOM'S SPACE MAINLY PLUS A DECENT SERVER OR CD PLAYER.
WE'RE TALKING OF COURSE AS A SECONDARY HI-FI SYSTEM!!
