Good Points: Historical, wonderful scenic settings, and an enthralling dramatic story
Bad Points: Does not have any bad points
General comments: The Duelists is a film that is set to the backdrop of the Napoleonic wars, and it is the story of two French soldiers played by Harvey Kietel and Kieth Carradine.
The story is basically about one soldiers belief that his honour has been besmirched, and he therefore challenges the other to a duel. For various reasons throughout the years they duel and duel again, without any closure to the disagreement.
It takes them through many phases of their careers, and finally to a last meeting that has all the drama of the times, and a stunning location that highlights the class of this movie.
The sword fight scenes are spectacular and at times very gory. There are also a couple of love stories within the film. I believe that the film was based on a true story, and the film certainly makes you feel that every occasion in it is believable and possible.
This film also stars some very well known TV actors, as well as James Fox, Diana Quick and Claire Raines.
Ultimately, this is a film that will suck you in and make you part of that time, and at the end it will leave you content that justice has been done and honour still remains.
