This product is horrible. I would score them 0 stars if I could. Their customer service sucks! This chainsaw has been in service longer than I owned it. Supposedly, 5 other similar models are in the same service shop as mine with some form of piston problem. I would encourage you to not only avoid this product but also avoid any other Techtronic based (a Hong Kong owned company) manufactured item. Homelite is owned by Techtronic which includes consumer based electronic/tools such as RYOBI, Milwaukee, AEG, and Hoover. HOMELITE BLOWS!!! Buy Stihl or Husqvarna but DO NOT buy a HOMELITE.

My old Homelite was a workhorse, but the Timberman 45 is a piece of rubbish. I'd never buy another Homelite saw since they have obviously cheapened the quality. Right now, my new Timberman 45 can't be started, so I'm back using my old one.

The Homelite Timberman 45 18 is a good overall yard/handyman type saw. If you want a saw to cut more than a few cords a year get a stihl. If you only cut a few cords a year the Timberman will be just fine. Plus the price is right. No, the timberman cannot be compared to a stihl. The old homelites were the saws in there day. However, by replacing the bar and chain on the timberman18 with a quality 16" bar and chain you transform it into a decent little saw.

The Homelite Timberman 45 18 is the worst saw I ever owned. Will never buy another one. Bogs down way to easy. Fine for limbing, which is not what I bought it for. Too heavy. Brake broke on it the 2nd time I used it. I went and bought me a Husqvarna and Love it.

I've had Homelite chainsaws for many years. My last was a 360 pro, and it was a great running saw. I have not needed a saw for several years, and when the occasion arose, I went out and found what I thought would be a decent saw for occasional use. Boy, was I wrong! It has been nothing but trouble. The clutch/brake needed to be replaced immediately. I found out from the Homelite support line there was a known problem, and they sent out the parts to my local dealer to fix it. Then, within ...

My Homelite Timberman 45 18 chain saw is not dependable, I have owned chainsaws all my life, and this thing eats chains like it's free lunch! I sharpen regularly, but this saw will not cut straight, it walks to the right as you saw through a log, if you try to keep the saw from walking, the chain will track off of the bottom of the bar. I would not recommend this saw, next saw I get will be a Stihl, even though its a couple of hundred dollars more.

The homelite timberman 45 18" has good power, but has too many draw backs to purchase for commercial use. I have two and as has been stated here already, the brake was a problem on both until I completely removed it.As was also stated the bar and chain and sprocket do not last no time if you are using it for any extensive cutting projects. Just clearing six acres of property I have gone through 3 bards and sprockets, and numerous chains. And yes I resharpen the chains at least 5 to 5 times be ...

I've used the Homelite Timberman 45 18 chain saw once after a big storm to cut down some trees and branches. It was delightful to use. Then fast forward two years later, the second time I used it, the self oiling pump stopped working.

I called Homelite and they said it is out of warranty. I called a local chain saw repair place, and they said it cost less to buy a new one than to repair it.

    Homelite let me down.

A narrow kerf chain improves cutting power.

I think that I would like the Timberman allot if I did not have problems with the chain break I mention in the bad points. This became a problem within a few hrs of first using the saw.

I know many people say that only Stihls are good enough. They are probably right. But when i hired a professional to cut down some trees after a storm he came with a Stihl. But, the Stihl would not run. So i had to get my old 330 from the shed. Some fresh gas and wroaaar... 53 cc and close to 4 hp. The professional spoke highly about my saw, the only thing he complained about was i insisted he was to run 16:1 gasmix. it smokes, but it saved my saw when the intake boot ripped.
    So... Homie rules! ...

The housing OF THE Homelite Timberman 45 18 chainsaw is plastic, and the chain break gets hot and melts into that plastic, locking up the saw. I am on the third housing replacement. They keep shipping my local repair shop the old style housing. I would not recommend this product.

The Homelite Timberman 45 18 chainsaw starts easily, when the chainsaw works! I won't be buying any more of their products, as the warranty is no good.

If you are an experienced user, or need a good dependable saw, get a Stihl. It is worth the extra money. If you use the Homelite Timberman 45 18 chainsaw only occasionally for light clean up and fire wood cutting, then it will work for you. (Get some wedges and use them).

I am planning on getting a Stihl (probably 3.5 to 4 Hp), but I am keeping the Timberman for lighter work.

If you have fair mechanical ability and don't mind tinkering with ropes and spark plugs once in a while, it is not ...

All together, it is a horrible chainsaw.

Within three times of usage, the chainbrake broke and the ignition relay died. Then, when I tried to get the ignition fixed via the Homelite warranty, I had to make numerous phone calls (major headache) because they said that they wouldn't pay for the Timberman 45 18 chainsaw to be fixed, even though it says that they will in the manual.

I have been using this Homelite Timberman 45 18 saw for a week straight now, clearing downed trees in our town. We were hit with a major storm that knocked down several large trees. This saw has been awesome! Powering right along with the Stihl saws used by many guys I cut with. Daily cleaning was easy, a few screws here and there and filter and chain clean.

Do not purchase the Homelite Timberman if you plan on cutting regularly. Good for clean up around the yard but not for cutting firewood to heat a house. The bar is of poor quality and despite flipping it before each cutting session I have replaced it twice. OEM chain went dull after 1 hour of cutting. Fuel line blew out after 10 hours of cutting. Sprocket needs to be replaced after 100 hours of cutting.
