This is a horror story of how Coldwell Banker held almost $3,000.00 of OUR money hostage for over three months because they screwed up on our refi. We re-financed our home in Feb. '09 with Coldwell Banker Mortgage. The agent was easy to work with. As part of the good faith clause, it was stated the Coldwell was to pay the second installment of our property taxes as we had already paid the first installment. At the closing table, without advanced notice, we were told that we had to pay the second installment. It didn't sit well with us due to the lack of notice, however, we wrote a check in order to close the deal on time. Two weeks later, we discovered that Coldwell, for reasons unknown to us, took almost $3,000.00 out of our reserves and paid the second property tax bill that we had already paid! Coldwell said they could not refund our money until the county sent them the check back even though the county verified with Coldwell that both installments had been paid by us. Then Coldwell said after the money was back in our account that they would have to do an account analysis to make sure there was sufficient money in the account. Now keep in mind this was a brand new account with monies untouched other than Coldwell. No one at customer service, including two managers, seemed to really care about our predicament and gave us 'out of the customer service manual', monotone answers. I asked for someone whom I could speak with at their corporate office and was told there was no phone number for me to call, that I would have to write a detailed letter instead. This turned out not to be true. I called the corporate office and talked to the Office of the President. They told me that since we got our money back (after THREE MONTHS), that they considered the matter closed and that there was nothing they would do to make amends.

In July 2005 I applied for a mortgage with Coldwell Banker Mortgage. considering I already had two mortgages with the same company with previous pleasant experience, they were my first choice. With the information I provided, I was quickly approved with a very competitive rate. During the processing stage, my loan was denied due to high income to debt ratio. Then the worst thing came 5 months later; I was hit with a $350 application fee for an appraisal they ordered, plus other expenses. I was t ...
