I've had my M6 for 3 weeks and so far am delighted. I managed to get a demonstrator with less than 100 miles on the clock. I was the only one that had a demonstration in it.
I have completed the first 1200 miles after which I am allowed to bury the throttle to the floor and see what happens. Wow!!! Words can not describe the power in this machine. I remember the shock the first time I planted my foot to the floor in an M3. This shocks you that bit more, taking you to speeds that are. The M6 handles better than the M5 but you lose the practicality of a 4 door car.
SMG III is much improved over SMG II being more refined by removing jerky gear changes and partially masking the sounds coming from the diff. The SMG paddles are also more tactile and made from better materials.
The head up display is a very useful feature making it much easier to watch your speed without taking your eyes off the road. The display also optionally gives rev counter graphics, navigation instructions and selected gear.
Voice control is also a great feature making the i drive accessible on the move but sometimes makes amusing mistakes.
Many reviewers complain that the system is over complicated with eleven gear settings, 3 damper settings, 2 power settings etc etc. I disagree. You don't have to use them all, just find the settings that are right for you and use them. I use one setting for everyday driving and one seting for spirited driving which is pre programmed into my M button, making it easy to adjust between the settings.
Black interior with piano black leather looks classy and contrasts the Silverstone II exterior colour on my car.
I've had a couple of I drive glitches where I could not select the option I wanted but these problems are not re-occuring.
Reviewers also compare this car with the Porsche 911 which is a shame as the M6 is not aimed at 911 buyers. BMW's 911 contender is the M3. The M6 is aimed at buyers considering Aston's DB9 and possibly the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti making it excellent value for money.
