Bought my clio for £800 so really cheap, few months later the sunroof started leaking and ruined all seats! Got it fixed then 2 months later leaked again and no one can seem to fix it! Both springs on front suspension snapped, tracking rod broke, rear coil spring is corroded! And also the heating system does not work! Expensive repairs!!! Wish I had saved my money and bought a different car!!

This economic engine has a electronic box with no clear diagnostics about the engine part with fault. It is very difficult to found waht is wrong with the engine. Two years ago will take 1 month to identify the problem and to visit three garages.

This car will cost you a fortune in repair bills i centanly would not recommed this car to anyone especialy whos just passsed their test because they are not that reliable and it will break their heart

Fantastic car. Bought it brand new in 2004 when I had just passed my test and have had no problems at all with it. Virtually no repair bills, decent fuel consumption, and great looking car. Still functions in terrible snow, with slight difficulty getting uphill. All in all, could not recommend this car enough. Test drove the new model recently and was disappointed with the lightness and insecure feeling of the car. Much prefer the older, sturdier model. Cannot go wrong.

Excellent car. I have the 2005 1.2 Extreme 3dr version. Steering is very light and reliability is EXCELLENT! SO confortable and everything easy to reach. GREAT standard stereo. Remote C/L and all electric work great. Great economy and the display modes (MPG, Avg Speed, Dist Left, fuel used, etc) are a great help. Only minor problem a 5 door may have been more useful as all my mates now want to just 'go for a drive' in it. Great.

Bought for £4,000 a total steal, this little gem has constantly performed on all terrains, in all weather and even with my 17 year old brother raping the engine. Still perfectly running and always reliable. The only downsize I could even consider when thinking about the Renault Clio Extreme is perhaps the clunky gear box, which as we all know is normally sorted after a good service or a bit of tuning. Easily one of the best small cars on the road and not only would I recommend it to anyone who asked I would actually endorse it, shouting from the roof tops that, out of the many cars I have driven to date, this is irrevocably not only my favourite but the best!

I bought my clio from an auction for £3800 in 2005 at two years old i thought this was such a bargin but it hasnt worked out that way. i have had nothing but problems with it in the last two years. thermistat housing as been repleaced as craked, keeps going in to limp mode every now and then garage tell me throttle sensor has gone but i think ecu, looking at a cost of £1000 or more to replace both just to be sure. renault repair bills are way excessive i would not recommed this car to any1 unless u like spending your days on the hard shoulder and being towed. the garage have told me this is a very common problem with the clio so i would stay away. also had problems with the fuse box was all corrodied causing the engine to not start. i advise you all to stay away and look elsewhere if is by far the most unreliable car i have ever owned give me a ford anyday.

Excellent car so far! Have had no performance issues so far. Acceleration is very good despite it being slightly heavier than other cars in its class such as the Peugeot 106 and the handling is great to. The brakes are very good and feel very responsive on the peddle, as is the throttle peddle. Fuel consumption is excellent which is useful as I'm only 17. I personally love the look of my car despite the interior having a 'cheapish' plastic look, still looks very nice though.
Only downside of the car is that the sunroof when closed may rattle slightly when driving over uneven surfaces and isn't as spacious in the rear 3 seats as in other cars such as Peugeot 106's and Fiat Punto's.
Overall I couldn't be happier with my 1.2 16v Clio as my first car, which I hope to have for a very long time.

I have just recently gone to view a renault clio 3 extreme 04 plate for sale, i test drove it and it was great. The car was very responsive to acceleration and deceleration, although i do not own this car as of yet i have high hopes for it, and it looks good aswell.
Bad points: when you are travelling over rough ground e.g. gravel, the sun roof does rattle slightly however this does not occur on normal roads.

Very unreliable! Everything on this car went wrong after a while. there were problems after problems. i spent altogether trying to fix the car, around £2000, at the end the car just became even worse, and would go into limp home mode every 5 mins. i thought the problem was lambda sensor. i changed it and it did nothing. eventually i sent it to a friend to have a close look only to find the ECU had gone!

Almost everything about this car is superb, decent acceleration and speed for a 1.2 and will keep up with most others despite being heavier, very safe for passengers, comes with a huuuge amount of mod-cons for its price i.e. climate control, electric wing mirrors, rain sensitive windscreen wipers etc. and has a beautifully layed out and designed interior (in my opinion) I find it a pleasure to drive.

I love this car so much and I'm gutted I can't afford to repair it... over all its a brilliant car apart from the repair cost an how much t breaks down.

Generally it can be a relaible car but Renault need to improve service and design a more relaible car has the keys that they have now always brakes and your left without a car until your receive a new key and it has been programed to the car.

Problems every 2 weeks, fire damage to electric mirror switch, CD players keep breaking, misfires, backfires, cuts out, knocks and rattles, water leak from sunroof, wheel bearings and rough idling all went wrong in 1st year of ownership. It is the worst car I have ever owned and it will be the last due to poor dealership not fixing car properly. I'm definitely going back to a Ford!

The Renault Clio 1.2 16V Extreme 2 looks good but when it breaks down, it's horrible to work on and very expensive to fix, typical French car! You are better off buying VW or Ford!

I have only had my Renault Clio 1.2 16V Extreme 2 for 3 weeks, but I was really lucky to get a 53 reg for £4495.00 from Reg Vardy in Harrogate (they have loads). The bonus was it already had Lexus lights on the rear, and brand new alloy wheels!! This is my 3rd car, and will be mine for a long time, so I wanted something I wouldn't grow tired of, and this is the one!!
The fuel consumption is excellent! The drive is excellent, and the interior (if you get one like mine) is stunning! I have a flame red one, and the interior is matching but very sporty. It has a leather steering wheel which finishes off the interior. Touch controls for the CD player are also a big bonus!!
All I will say is get yourself one of these! I can normally find fault in anything and this time I couldn't!

If you are a young driver, who has just saved up enough for your first car, the Renault Clio 1.2 16V Extreme 2 is the one for you. Because:
1. You will save money on petrol, 50MPG is almost as good as many diesels
2. Cheap to insure, go to Tesco, I paid £1500 a year, it seems a lot but for a new driver that is the cheapest on the market
3. All your mates will want one, they look superb (especially in Metallic Black)
4. Extras as standard, power steering, sunroof, electric windows, sports seats fitted by maunfacture, cd/radio player, heat adjustable drivers seat, and the brakes are Anti-lock Brakes: this a lot better than many drivers first cars, as you can see.

I wish id seen this review before ..brought my 03 renault clio..every month it goes into garage for repairs paid £1000 in june 2013 second hand thinking i was getting a good deal as its my first car and ever since with only 54,000 miles on the clock ive paid out £1,300 on repairs..oh and ive just noticed today the sunroof is leaking and the front suspension on the passenger side is going too..so all and all im off to scrap it and save for a better car..renault should be shut down for the cars they make!
