Have been speaking to Skype support for weeks about unfair charges, with no result what so ever. When I call a land-line sometimes Skype starts charging even if nobody picked up, I can hear the ring tone but Skype is charging and I end up paying for connection and for the first minute even though nobody picked up. Also Skype rounds the charge into their favor. I call to a country and the charges are following: Connection fee 7.6p and a minute is 6.9 total 14.5p, but Skype charges 15p, they... (read more)

okay, here goes, first of all the very few good things i have to say about skype. good - this is easy to set up and download, easy to get an account on etc, it is easy to add people 90% of the time. bad - where do i start? this is made out to be so great, which i found out to be total rubbish when downloading this onto my top of the range laptop, you would of thought it'd be good on a great laptop. ever since the day i downloaded it, it has been nothing but a disappointment, when you call... I like Skype, and have used in successfully to stay in contact with my son in China. Some of the reviews about poor quality are a little unfair, as they depend on the internet speed. However, what I hate with every cell in my body is Skype's "Click to call" function, because it ruins web pages and also, perversely, stops EXCEL from copying and pasting correctly if installed on Google Chrome. If you install Skype it will sneakily install "click to call" in Chrome, and thus muck up your... (read more)

Five transactions suddenly went through my Paypal account totalling £150. Immediately I cancelled Skypes authority to take payments on Paypal and applied for a refund. If I had not been online at the time my entire bank account would have been drained. Skype claim that my account was hacked and that someone made the purchases. This does not make any sense. The purchases would have been for me and the money still went to Skype so there would have been no benefit to the hacker. The invoices... (read more)

I travel frequently, and signed up to Skype on a pay-as-you-go tariff to avoid cellphone roaming charges. It works, it's a lot cheaper than the mobile, and it's relatively easy to use. However, the quality of the audio varies from adequate to awful. The video link can be fun but appears very bandwidth hungry. I like: free when calling other Skype users. Conference calling. Video, if you like that sort of thing. I dislike: The audio quality, the user interface (terrible phone book... (read more)

Have used Skype intermittently for years with mixed results, recently used the iphone app while travelling in the USA. The app consistently failed to connect or connected after over a minutes wait, I was charged connection fees whether the call connected or not and whether I could hear the other party and communicate or not. It cost more than using standard mobiles to connect to the UK. Also realised that Skype has no means of actually communicating with a human being, the only way to... (read more)

Strange - with Pay As You Go, calling landlines, I'd have very few complaints. As soon as I went on monthly sub, UK only [I''m based in the UK] - pretty poor, at times dreadful. Calls drop and, at times, they don't even start. A few manage it to the end of my conversation. Do calls on Pay As You Go get a high priority because they cost more, or because the customer isn't 'in the bag' on a monthly sub and needs to be impressed? (read more)

I offer this review as a word of warning, particularly if you use skype for business. I began to use the service feeling that I'd broken away from the clutches of BT and was making a technological step in the right direction - how wrong! The line quality is poor for a start - although via the PC its not so bad you're end. The customer still hears a wind tunnel while talking to you. Their website can easily confuse - you can buy skype credit but its not tranferable to a subscription (vice... (read more)

I only use Skype for its messaging service and to be honest I find it far superior to the likes of Microsoft Messenger although I do find it a lot more intrusive. Every time you start it up it comes up with a splash screen telling you about its voice services which I am really not interested in.

I think Skype must hold some kind of record for the highest number of faked customer reviews planted all over the web. Not too bad on this site but some of the other review sites are just one big advert for Skype.
I bought a webcam and installed it on my machine but skype just crashes everytime I try and make a call. Tried following the trouble-shooting guide on Skype's impossible-to-navigate website and did not resolve the problem. I've tried Skype's even-more-impossible-to-navigate forum...

I had a SkypeIn number for almost 4 years. They had changed it along the way with little notice - that was bad - but I continued. I had the replacement number for over 2 years using it for business cards, website and so on. I paid my monthly subscription. Then suddenly and by chance I found out that Skype had a "glitch" more than 3 month ago and my number got "detached" - due to a Skype fault. They never told me about their "glitch" - but kept taking my money. Completely dishonest that is -... (read more)

I am struggling to find something good to say about this corporation or their software. I have never seen so many obviously ingenuine reviews written on a product (I do not include this site. Just look around other review lists and you will se what I mean). I have used skype in 8 countries, on many different systems, and acceptable call quality is no better that 40% (you will be billed for 100% of course). The interface is poorly laid out, but beyond this, had a serious vulnerability for... (read more)

Skype is an excellent service but you need to know its limitations. Calls from a Voice over the Internet (VOIP) phone to other VOIP users are free. You can dial to any landline number virtually everywhere, but for that you will need to pay and have an account with some credit in it. Calls to landline numbers are very cheap - for most countries it is less than 2p per minute. It is true they cancel your credit if not used after 6 months but one quick call in that time, even if it is to... (read more)

I have been using Skype for two years using a Phillips VOIP841 cordless phone. Its call quality has been acceptable for the most part. My biggest issue with them is their billing. I was on a subscription which included calls to a specific country (Australia) and an inbound number in that country. Today I received an email saying that my subscription would expire in a week due to an expired credit card. There was nothing wrong with the card. I used their online chat to talk to somebody who... I use a couple of VOIP and Skype is the worse one.

Great in theory, but I am not a frequent user. Your Skype account will expire after 180 days of not using the pay as you go service.
This means my skype credit expired twice by now and has cost me over £15!
Their excuse is that accounting rules require it, that's daylight robbery.

Erratic connections to non-skype services, never offered a caller display number on the receiving phone (although they do not guarantee one, it is still part of the service that is supposed to work) and the worst thing by far, as a business user paying for subscriptions is the business control panel. I experience the business interface to be full of glitches, black holes and mis-allocated credit and numbers. (read more)

$200 for the phone $20-$30 for an (802) area code and about $63 per year for unlimited VOIP use, not too bad if the blasted thing worked. Oh, and good luck trying to get anywhere with tech service. Free calls and less connection charge through Skype - you need to register but was easy. Some reported echo from my contacts but having spoken to Belkin Support it may be my contacts end or I may have to use a different Port on my Firewall/Wireless Router. I need to find out exactly how to do this.
Support from Belkin on a question of phone time alway being out was not good. But overall I'm pleased with Skype 1.4 but could be better.

I use Skype for business daily, if not hourly. I also use it to call family in Australia, Holland and Kenya, for free. I call Shanghai office several times a day, for free. I even call Indonesian suppliers daily, on their normal phone, at 1/10 the cost of a normal call.
I believe everyone in business should use it. It will save everyone a fortune.

I've just downloaded Skype 1.4 free of charge (7mb) and legged it to the shops to get a microphone headset. After speaking to my friend for a while who now has skype too, I can say that it is pretty good.
I bought £5 worth of call credit that allows me to call any phone number in the world for about half the price of a local call (not sure of costs exactly but it is cheap). See skype.com for details.

Hello from the Netherlands.
I have been a happy user of MSN Live for many years and am definatly NOT looking forward to its demise in the very near future. I have read more negative reviews than positive about Skype and will not be going over to it. Malware, slow speed, bad customer service ... no ping when my mail comes in.... I am taking notice. I would loose all my collections of emoticons, backgrounds, to become the bare bones of what I have now. That is not what I want. It may make business sense to Microsoft but from what I see up on the net it is not what many messenger users want. So sadly when the day comes I will bury MSN with love. I will look to the competition for alternatives. Sadly Anybody-is
