Good Points: Great refreshing taste, consistent in quality, Budweiser Budvar is simply a top quality understated "beer".
Bad Points: Despite being present in most good supermarkets nowadays, the product can be a little more tricky to locate in pubs and bars.
General comments: My buddy Glenn introduced me to Budvar a few years ago now, and I much prefer it to the manky American product.
Budweiser is the name of a pilsner style beer brewed from as early as 1265 in the city of Ceske Budejovice(Czech Republic). The name Budweiser is derived from the German name for the town, Budweis. The town once held the accolade of being the royal brewer for the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire no less. Budweiser Budvar is produced in four varieties, although the regular red label is the most commonly found in the UK. The fermentation period for the red label is 72 days and has a rich taste of malt and Saaz hops. The beer is easily distinguishable from the Anheuser-Busch product which incorporates rice in it's brewing process. A bitter trademark dispute has raged between the American brewing giant and it's smaller Czech counterpart in recent times with Anheuser-Busch claiming that the Czech brewer had only been distributing Budweiser as a commercial brand since 1895, some 19 years after the Americans. The Czechs simply contend this with more than 700 years of heritage. In many countries only the beer produced by Budejovicky Budvar can be marketed as Budweiser and the Anheuser-Busch product is often marketed as "Bud", similarly in other countries the Czech product is marketed with the name Budvar or Budweiser Budvar. Budejovicky Budvar has limited distribution in the US under the name Czechvar, although it is not available in the home state of Anheuseur-Busch, Missouri.

Drinkers of the watery American imitation don't know what they're missing. Budvar is real Continental lager as it ought to be- tasty, strong and no messing about.

Budvar beer is the TRUE King of Beers. It has a wonderful taste and although not cheap it is good value for what you get. You have to drink a lot to get a hangover. My favourite beer!
