Good Points: A good lager that's got some real flavour. One of the better continental beers that are available. Only brewed in Germany, and not in the UK

Bad Points: The bottles are a little smaller than most bottled beers. There are other German lagers I prefer (eg Bitburger). It carries a premium image so you can pay through the nose for it in a lot of bars

General comments: I'm not a big lager drinker, preferring a good bitter or even Guinness to most lagers, but Becks is a decent example of an imported beer, as it is only brewed in Germany, and not in the UK under licence (as most "continental" beers actually are such as Stella and Carlsberg) . It's still brewed under German purity laws if their marketing is to be believed, so only made with water, yeast, hops and barley. That means it shouldn't be full of chemicals, nor made up with other grains (like the American version of Budweiser which has all sorts of stuff in it. Consequently, it does have a good flavour.

The taste is refreshing and balanced, and works well especially in the summer when it is a real thirst quencher. It has a decent level of alcohol, so is ideal in bottles if you want to avoid getting too drunk, though the bottles do tend to be smaller than other bottled lagers which is a bit of a swizz (275ml compared to 330ml for most premium lagers). This, coupled to the fact that it carries a premium pricce tag to go with its premium image mean Becks is often an expensive option for a night out. All that art sponsorship they do doesn't come cheap!

It's also available on draught in some places, though I think it's mainly sperseded by their slightly less alcholic Vier, and it's available in cans at supermarkets. I can't comment on the canned variant as I haven't tried it, though beer in tins never seems to shake off its metallic after-taste which you obviously don't get in bottles.

I'd certainly choose it over a lot of beers, but there are also a lot of others that I prefer instead, so it isn't my first choicee but I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand

The only beer that I drink is Beck's (most often Beck's Premier Light). It is the only beer that I can handle a lot of and not get too drunk or have a hangover. It's not that I don't enjoy the taste of other beers but my body is extremely sensitive to certain ingredients used to make most. I can only attribute my tolerance to Beck's natural ingredients. I wish they sold it more in bars!

Becks has become my standard drinking lager taking over the reins from Stella Artois. Although I do much prefer the likes of Budvar and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Becks is obviously the far cheaper option. The taste is nice and refreshing and due to the fact that Becks only use natural ingredients you are less likely to get an awful hangover that the likes of Stella can inflict.

It isn't a bad beer, but I find it too harsh if you have it as your first drink. I admit that it is probably easier to drink then say Fosters, but I put this down to it not being as bubbly.

Overall, I would say that Becks bier is a beer to have mid way through your evening, and personally I wouldn't want more than 1 pint of it because of the harsh after taste.

Becks bier is arguably the best beer on the market today. Given that it is exported and brewed in Germany it has a distinct and enjoyable taste.

    Well worth trying!

Oh how I regret the day I had my first Beck's Bier. Until then I was satisfied to sip my Miller Genuine Draft, or Bud Light, or whatever was available. But now I have to compare every beer to Beck's. A friend brought over a six-pack and introduced me to the lovely flavor. Not too intense, but there's no doubt you are drinking a beer. It is refreshing yet complex.
