    Good Points: Fairly attractive interior

    Bad Points: Appalling food
    Poor service
    Tables crammed together
    Expensive

General comments: Went to the Angel Inn last night, and can barely begin to start reviewing as it was so horrendously bad. We had pre-ordered our menu as requested by the owners, who had promised to email the menu four times before it actually arrived. The party of sixteen all pre-ordered as requested, however upon arrival at the restaurant and after being seated, we were told that we couldn't have that menu and that the menu no longer existed. We were told we could have the carvery option - however portions were limited and as a vegetarian there was no option but to have a small side salad as a main course. Even this was bland and delivered astonishingly badly. The owner seemed totally uncaring about messing us around, there was no apology and no offer to compensate us with even just a bottle of house wine. It was expensive, very noisy with a table of really drunk people just behind us and altogether totally unenjoyable.

Try to create a good simple menu from good fresh ingredients. There is nothing wrong with the good traditional Sunday roast for the main course ... good fresh organic vegetables are in vogue and very tasty. The key words are' good ' and 'fresh.'

Be experimental with one or two of the choices but not all of them. Give the customer something they know and can relate to. They like good food and they like imaginative presentation but they don't like to grapple with a child's geriatrics high bow ...

At the Angel Inn in Salem, Llandeilo you get fresh locally sourced food cooked in an imaginative manner.

Four colleagues and I (from England)were working in Carmarthen and drove out for a meal at the Angel Inn, Salem. near Llandeilo. Run by a former Welsh Chef of the Year, the inn has been refurbished to a high standard. The basic menu is small, but entirely based on local produce and cooked to the highest of standard. Excellent desserts and local cheese. There are also specials liked smoked organic chicken risotto with pine nuts. Wonderful atmosphere and excellent service.
