Good Points: Entertaining
Bad Points: Even though the movie lasted for two and a half hours, it seemed too short.
General comments: Although I wasn't familiar with the musical Rent, I was convinced by the previews that it would prove to be an entertaining experience. I saw the movie the day before its release last week, and I was amazed by the acting, singing, and dancing ability of the cast. I thought the music worked in well with the story, as well as if it had been performed live. I also grew to care for the characters somewhat. I especially am delighted in having gotten an appreciation for the talents of Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal (two of the original off-Broadway cast members).
As for the plot-line of the story; I felt that although a lot of the music helped develop it, I also think it took away from the character analysis I usually look for in movies. Because of the music in some scenes, I wasn't able to feel for the character who died, nor rejoice for those whom had survived. I am disappointed this movie did not do as well in its first week at the box office, and I hope that once it comes to DVD, it will be more talked about.
