Worst company I've ever dealt with. They are scamsters on a bigger scale. I used their cards frequently and paid it off promptly. When I decided to leave them to switch to a credit card with cheaper interest rate, they offered me an extremely low interest rate so I kept it and used it when I went on holiday thinking I could afford to pay it off gradually. Then they decided they would increase the interest rate from approx 5% to 29.9% without telling me. After a while, they started sending letters saying they would increase interest rates but that it did not affect those with agreed rates which I expected to apply to me. Nope and when I argued with them and asked that they bring the interest rate down, they only offered to keep it at 29.9% for a few months. When I started paying it off quickly, they decided to keep me in debt by raising the interest rate even more. They caused so many problems that my bank are no longer dealing with them for this very reason. Avoid like the plague. If I could rate them any lower, I would.

When I initially got the MBNA Starwood credit card, I was pleased because of the slightly lower interest rate provided. Then they offered me balance transfers to a much lower rate. After taking this offer, they offered more credit limit to encourage me to transfer more balance from my other higher interest credit card. This allowed me to concentrate on paying off the higher interest credit card first. After the promo period has expired, I got a letter from MBNA informing me that my interest ra ...- Read Guest's review (143 words)

It should be no stars for MBNA across the board. Credit Card has incredibly poor service and extremely steep penalties. I have had a credit card, affiliated to my old college, for more over 12 years which has been owned by various companies, including Beneficial. Late in 2008 the card company was purchased by MBNA. I pay online or by cheque and always pay off the entire balance. Without warning, a few months later MBNA changed the due date from the end of the month (typically 20th) to the 10th ...- Read Guest's review (237 words)

I obtained an MBNA credit card some years ago with a low credit limit for internet and emergency use. I used the card occasionally and I cleared the balance each month by direct debit. In June MBNA terminated the account without notice and without reason. When I called the call centre to ask why it had been terminated I was initially told it had been cancelled because it had not been used for over 12 months. When I pointed out this was not the case I was told it was because it had not been use ...- Read delbois's review (163 words)

After having an MBNA credit card for many many years they have cancelled my card because I haven't used it since August. I am now in a position where it is difficult to get another card because I live abroad and don't work. They are not making any money out of a financially responsible person so would rather cancel the card.- Read Guest's review (61 words)

MBNA states that it takes 5 working days to complete your transaction even if you pay by internet using DD. I paid my account by internet using DD 3 days before due date. MBNA did not submit for payment until 1 day after the due date (3 days after I had made the payment by DD). This way they can charge for late payment as well as interest. All the other credit card companies accept payment by DD on the same day as long as you make your payment before 12p.m.
I have cancelled my account with MBNA ...- Read dnathwani's review (151 words)

I would only use MBNA card occasionally now where a trader does not accept American Express (you get cash rewards on your purchases!)
I saw a small picture of a wristwatch in their small catalogue that came through the post (with other junk) and I decided to swap some of my points for the watch. The voucher arrived from Argos promptly for the swap... I had a good look at the watch and I did not like the watch all that much so I decided not to swap. I called Argos instead and they said if I retu ...- Read maum's review (240 words)

The MNBA Credit Card is the most complicated minimum payment scheme if you pay by direct debit monthly. They don't take enough to cover even your interest for the month. Then they increase your interest rate!- Read ushert's review (42 words)

I made a mistake in setting up auto pay for my MBNA credit card, and instead of paying twice per month, I was paying once every two months. My error caused me to be unable to make the minimum payment, which of course increased over the two months that my error was in place. I contacted them and spoke to a representative who agreed to cut my 29% rate in half if I made a $9000 payment (on a $22,000 debt) after I refinanced my home. I made the payment, and called for the lower rate. They claimed t ...- Read tlschultz's review (238 words)

MBNA keep sending me blank cheques to let me borrow up to $50,000.00 with no interest for a year. I did it. When I received the first statement, I already passed the due date. When I called them, I was told my promotional 0% interest was gone already. After I spent hours trying to calling them and explaining to them, they charged me about $200.00 and put the 0% interest back on. After that I set the automatic payment to them, every time, they received the money in less than two days and always o ...- Read hliu100's review (198 words)
