Good Points: As I said in 2006 for the price the XHS 3 it is as it was made to be a very very cheap break barrel starter air pistol to see if you like pistol shooting. OK for plinking out the back yard will hit a target up to 10 mtrs 15 mtrs. Once you find you like pistol shooting then go and spend even money and get something like a Co2 .

Bad Points: It is heavy and takes getting use too and the back sight moves about out of line if knocked so you need to fix it in both positions elevation and windage with rubber tubes used for fishing floats etc when you find where you want it to stay . So if it does get knocked it goes back to where you want it and no further.

General comments: Well I have had mine for just over two years now as I said and over 1000 pellets through it and it is still going ok. I only use it for fun shooting with some mates and some lads in my street in a farmers woods near me now and again. They find it ok they hit target cards and tins up to 15 meters as well. I have land owners written permission and Insurance it makes it all worth it then .

For the money, the SMK Westlake XHS3 .177 is a nice cheap plinker back garden bit of fun. It's not a target pistol but with practice you can get a reasonable group and you do feel a feeling of satisfaction when you do hit a target at longer ranges, Chronographed at 330 fps Geco pellets. Trigger is OK, I have had worst on a lot more expensive pistols. Fitted with a red dot becomes more accurate. Feels a bit twangy on firing. It's a pistol that for the money does what the label says.

When you first open the packaging to reveal the gun you will notice an excess of oil and rust covering large areas of the severely tool marked gun. You will probably be thinking at this point that you have been sold a gun that has been incorrectly stored in a damp warehouse and has degraded. However this is normal for this gun regardless of which retailer you buy it from.

Picking up the gun you will notice its hefty weight. In my opinion the gun is stupidly heavy for a gun which is marketed a ...

Having fired over 200 pellets in the last week at 6yrds and 10 meters and hit the target 95% of the time at both distances. No loss of power. I am very pleased with this air pistol. Finding the most comfortable way to hold and fire it takes time but it is getting better every time I use it.

The SMK Westlake XHS3 .177 is good value for the money. Ideal for learning yourself or others safe weapon handling and getting into target shooting. Having fired 30 pellets so far I have now got the sights sorted out . If I can keep my hands steady enough I am sure I shall get an acceptable group on the target.
I am pleased with the XSH3

This review is aimed specifically at the UK audience.

If you're looking for your first taste of air gunning and £20 is a vast sum to save up for, SMK Westlake is probably the pistol for you. With a pellet trap and pellets, this pistol lets you get started on your new potential hobby for about £50. For £20 more I'm certain you can find a better pistol but no-one wants to spend £70 only to find out they don't like shooting at all.

Arriving in gloriously retro packagi ...
