Good Points: McCourt's descriptive ability, coupled with his talent of evoking empathy makes this a gripping read. The writer feels almost familiar, owing to the self deprecating and authentic style.
Bad Points: Very few, but I feel that elaboration of some of the classroom tales would have been further amusing and entertaining.
General comments: This book was lent to me by a colleague, and I set about reading it right away. I was instantly gripped by the narrative style of McCourt, and felt identification with his experiences and ultimately his journey through this part of his life.
A thoroughly enjoyable read that fans of the author, and even those who have never read Angela's Ashes, or 'Tis can delve into easily, without prior knowledge of McCourt or his upbringing.
