I have had my 106 quicksilver for about 8 months and it has never let me down. It is a fast little car and it looks amazing with the gti body

how do you all think that they will keep up with pretty much anything? they get outrun by the sunrise. none of you are race car drivers wait till you get a bit older and get a proper car. to claim a 1400 will "keep up with/beat nearly anything" if driven properly is outrageous. love the car but you lot are ridiculous. The Best looking car you can have. and have so much potentional for them. i have a a few little problems but due to a previous owner not looking after it. must admit gear boxes could be better. all round sweet little car minesbeen lower 60mm all round debadged and flushed. would advise to get one

Bought my 52 plate 106 Quiksilver about 7 months ago now and had to start spending money on it straight away. I must admit this is probably due to previous poor ownership, but still had to spend £300 on a gearbox rebuild, £250 on a Bearing and CV Joint and now she needs a new back axle (will cost aprox £500 with labour).
Mines lowered and has a K&N. Performance wise you'll keep up with (but not beat) a lot of things if you drive it properly.
Corners like a dream.
Am looking to upgrade to 16v now, but overall she's been a great car.
Just bare in mind that things will start going around the 60k miles mark.
Make sure you cheack bearings before you buy.

i have a 1998 106 quiksilver, absolutly love it, wouldnt get rid of it atal, its a great car to drive as its very quick and runs well on the motorway and also handels very well through corners and very fun to drive... its very nippy and amazingly quick off the mark.
also on the looks wise of the car, comes with great interior which is also very comfe, and the GTi body kit on the outside of the car give it an amazing look.
only problems i have with this car is the fact it breaks alot and the older it gets the more iot brakes, i'v only had my car for about 6months now and already it has had to have: the door tighetned, new exhaust, new clutch, new wiper blades, new clutch cable, new ball joint in the gear stick and the sunroof leaks. but amongts all that its a good car and will keep up or beat pretty much anything... all though the bits breaking means it is off the road alot and it gets expensive to fix..
but in my honest opionion i would recomend this car, even due to everything breaking, because when you drive it you have so much fun!!

Check the Ariel Mount by removing the interior light, I bet you will find the seal had gone around that more than the sun roof, Common fault and has been needed to be done on Partners car a couple of times now.

Would suggest checking the ariel mount (located under interior light) The seal is known to go on them and is a common problem. Just needs a bit of sealent to solve the problem. Sunroofs do go but ariel is more common so would suggest looking there.

FANTASTIC, I love my Peugeot 106 Quicksilver, fine peace of motoring if yours feels sluggish then a new air filter sorts that out, but all round a nice car, thumbs up for the designers on this one. A fine peace of KIT!

The Peugeot 106 Quicksilver is a great little car, cheap insurance, easy to drive with just that extra bit of style! Beats most off the lights! Mine's been written off now because someone smashed into it from behind and I'm desperate to get another! Loved her!

All in all not a bad car. It's nippy and is good for my insurance, but personally wouldn't buy a French car again due to the bad things I had with it.

Within the first three months of me owning my Peugeot 206 Quiksilver I had 3 oil leaks. One before I even got it insured so was sat in the garage! This was also the same with my two mates who had 106 Quicksilvers. Problems were regular, one after the other. Exhaust, oil leaks, clutch, knocks and crunches. And it wasn't just me that had picked the wrong car my two mates had the same problems. Brakes are also really bad on the 106 Quiksilver
To be honest I wouldn't recommend this car to a student. Yes, they do look good and that very fast for a 1.4 but unless you have the money to keep forking out on repairs then dont get one.

Bought a standard 1999 Peugeot 106 Quiksilver
Modded it with cosmetic extras and body work.
Looks great and not dated.
Full engine re-build for £300 and thats cheap as chips. Plenty of performance extras available at low costs.
Gti interior now fitted and spoiler and rear axle.
Part just swap no prob and all work done is cheap. Best motor I've ever had. Quick and handles very very well.

I have had my Peugeot 106 Quiksilver for nearly a year now. It's been a great little car, being only 19 when I bought it I was looking for something with cheap insurance but looked good as well. It's best to get a newer Quiksilver as the older ones don't even come with alloy wheels as standard. Saying that, I changed the wheels on my 2003 model as soon as I could because the standard ones look pretty pants.
The interior is great, with Quiksilver branded upholstery as standard, my friend has a 99 reg Saxo VTR and the interior in that looks like someone has been sick in it!
All in all I love my Quiksilver and would recommend it to anyone that wants a cheap car that looks and feels great.
However, due to growing up am now upgrading to a ST170 as need 5 doors and air con for baby!

Hi Ben,
im afraid there wont be much you can do to lower the premium considering your age (i had a 998cc Mini as my first car and the premium was still over £1300). Its the engine size mate - trust me start out with something around 1 litre, build your no-claims up (this will really help). Dont worry before you know it you'll be in something quicker. Hope this helps,
Adam
