Good Points: Easy to use (TV video combo)
    Tidy
    Good picture
    Good recording
    Teletext is fast
It can find the beginning of recording for you.

Bad Points: Videoplayer door catches a brand of videotape as it ejects, it eventually fell off, so fixed itself.
Could do with two scart sockets at the back instead of one
    Nothing else comes to mind

    General comments: Akai DXV2121
    Owned since 25th November 2002

21" screen, mono with two front facing speakers
    built in video recorder
    twin tuners
    4 head mono video
    fasttext
    PDC and VideoPlus
    sp and lp record
    NTSC playback
    8 programme one month timer
front av socket as well as 1 rear scart
    silver
    headphone socket
proper off switch on the front as well as a standby switch
mount on the back to tie it to a wall (in case your stand is wobbly???) a strange safety feature but thoughtful I guess.

    It doesn't have a stand.

Had this for 3 years now and only had a few problems.

The video door flap seemed to catch certain video cassettes (brand name cassettes) as they ejected, they still came out but it didn't sound too healthy. Eventually the flap fell off and out, which is okay except there was no sign of a spring, don't know where it went. Left it that way and it seems well.

Second problem is on one occasion the whole tv screen went pink or green, can't remember which, as if someone passed a giant magnet over it. Couldn't get rid of it. Eventually I switch the power off at the socket and it fixed itself overnight. Don't know what that was all about, but it's been okay since.

Teletext is fast, faster than my freeview boxes, It's suppose to have an 8 page memory but whatever it is, it's good.

It has two tuners so you can record something and watch another broadcast at the same time.

    Summary
A functional machine, price was good at the time, easy to use.

I'd certainly recommend Akai (I have a stand alone video to and that is good too, no problems whatsoever)

The only real problem was the video door.

It's had heavy usage and seems fine so far.

When the video eventually breaks down I'll put the video flap back on and buy a standalone unit.
