Bad Points: Connect softwre supplied is pants, don't use it.
this NW-A1000 is quite old now, but mine is still going strong.

General comments: The Sony NW-A1000 is tough, sturdy - this mp3 player has been round the world with me with no problems at all. I agree, the connect player software supplied is pants, but after downloading sonic stage, if your patient enough this software is decent for transferring and organising your music files. All round decent mp3 player, I've been happy with it since the day I bought it.

my wife brought the NW-A1000 for my 40th as I wanted to put all my CDs onto one player, I looked at the iPods but wanted something different & I like Sony products, I wish I had never bothered. Within 6mths the price had dropped by £50, the software it came with was rubbish, I had to download Sonic Stage. It misses tracks out when transferring a CD, the playback sound was too low, I had to unlock it, the controls are slow and awkward to use, and when played back in intelligent shuffle it w ...

I got one of these ages ago for £160 to be different because everybody I knew had iPods. the sound quality is good but not loud. The controls are too complicated. you cant even see the screen when outdoors and the connect software is absolutely rubbish. I have just sold it on eBay for £30... it's just about worth that!

I now have an iPod and I am happy

I received this Walkman (6GB) for Christmas 2005 and I have had absolutely no trouble with it. It has had it's fair share of bumps and knocks and despite what people say about it being fragile and scratching easily I have not got one scratch on it. I think the sound quality is what you look at when you get an Mp3 player and I think this ranks up there with the best. It has a wonderful toned mix and produces an also perfect sound. It is also light and very portable and does not skip or jog when s ...

Sony NW-A1000 is value for money because I bought it for rs 5000, thanks to Times in India readers special price scheme, the sound quality to external speakers is fantastic if you the line out external speakers. I down loaded sonic stage and version 3 for device. this combination is working very well.

Got a Sony Walkman NW-A1200 for Christmas and it is absolutely superb; sound quality is far superior to the ipod and the battery life is unbelievable. Moreover, it looks damn cool!

Some people complain the software is slow when ripping, which is partially true, but if you are impatient, you can rip it into Windows Media Player first, and then simply import the WAV/WMA files across - this is super fast.

One area where the Walkman falls foul of the ipod is with obtaining to accessories, but ...

I bought this device more than a month ago, and I have spent most of that time emailing Sony trying to get the thing to work. The software is stupidly slow, memory dependent and poorly designed. The files don't always transfer, and the sound quality is patchy. I wish I'd never bought it. If you buy one of these, make sure the computer you have is a Sony with factory software, and never ever upgrade the thing or else you'll never be able to use the NWA1000 with it again.

My advice: buy an iPod ...

A while back I wrote a glowing review Sony NW-A1000, but can honestly say now I wished I'd never bought it! It's basically the points I wrote in the Bad point bits above. Whilst they may seem trivial, they're not.
I've heard quite a few folk saying the software is rubbish and yes, I can now quite agree. The software disk you get with the player crashes your pc, the inital sonic stage software you could download, although aged, worked, but Sony in their pearly wisdom have brought out new softwar ...

Got myself the Sony NW-a1000 3 days ago and returned and swapped already. The software is a complete joke very slow ripping time (if it doesn't crash or freeze). Gave up with it for the sake of my sanity. The sound quality wasnt brilliant either!!

I got this Sony NW-A1000 mp3 player for my birthday only a few days ago and I'm loving this little piece of equipment. I like to get the lastest technology so I can keep up with my mates and boy I have with this little wonder. I previously had a Sony NW-E-99 which had served me well with the Sonicsatge software and the 1 gig of memory but I wanted something special so I opted for the Sony Walkman.

I have given this product 9 out of 10 because-

First of all I will rate the hardware. 9.5 o ...

I've just treated myself to the Sony NW-A1000 MP3 player after taking the Bean back (I didn't like the fact that you have to charge it by USB) and I know I've made the right choice.

Fair enough; I've read the gripes regarding the Connect software, but after loading my tracks satisfactorily, I've not had to re-use it.
I just wish that companies wouldn't insist on including in-ear head sets. I'm not alone in the fact that I can't wear them. I'm now wearing my older headphones, and I now find ...

I received the Sony NW A1000 MP3 player for Christmas. At first I loved it and I started using it straight away! I was told at the Sony Center in Bluewater that it is iTunes compatible, and since all my music is from iTunes I considered this a plus point! I now know it most certainly is NOT!! The sound quality is not as good as I expected it to be! Maybe I need to upgrade the headphones supplied.

Don't even bother trying to download from the Sony Connect software!! It is HOPELESS and very fru ...

I bought the stylish Sony NW-A1000 MP3 player yesterday from the Sony centre. I was really happy with it. I got home and started uploading the music, but the Connect software is just giving me so much trouble. It's the most unstable software I have ever used in my life. It crashed so many times. I am sure it has nothing to do with my computer, because it's still top spec, and my Windows system doesn't crash. I've been online and found that I'm not the only one having this problem. So I took i ...

If I had to sum up the Sony NW-A1000 player in one word it would be 'quality'. Sony work very hard to make that first impression count. When opening the box you aren't so much tearing through flimsy cardboard and nasty plastic to get to what you want, but you open the box as though it were jewellery. Everything about it just oozes with quality from the word go. The construction of the player is flawless, absolutely flawless. When you held if feels heavier than most players - despite weighing onl ...
