My dream car. Special interior design - nothing like it in its range. And the exterior, too. Many gadgets at a fairly low cost. Good engine (devil inside)… Read Full Review

In a 1 year old car I experienced the following over 1 year.
4 new turbos, 1 new clutch, 3 recalls. It takes 6 weeks between each service and they don't fix the fault when you do take it. If you want a life of pain buy this if not get rid asap… Read Full Review

Its a very good car when you are looking for a small but nice coupe. The Citroen C4 looks very nice. I drove the 1.6 (110) petrol engine and it was a great drive I was thinking to buy the new Honda Civic but know I'm sure that the new Citroen will be my new car its sporty and elegant in the same time… Read Full Review

The looks still inspire me, it is a very pretty car and when I bought it it was a choice between the Citroen Coupe and the Astra Sportback. I'm sure I made the right choice.

Smooth, powerful, re-fined drive. Very precise handling, excellent gearbox, great instrumentation. Unquestionably value for money e.g. you get a lot of car for the price. Lots of 'hidden' innovations which make the everyday commute pleasurable. Roadhold is excellent and remains poised at all times, a fact that made me decide to buy this particular car. Both my wife and I drive it and after years of 'my car' 'your car' we now squabble over who is going to drive at the weekend. The EGS is just… Read Full Review

A fantastic long distance cruiser which is happy sailing along the motorway back and forwards to Donegal every week. Have had 13,000 hassle-free miles with no reliability issues. This car is a joy to live with despite its few design flaws and features such as the electrochrome rear view mirror (dims the lights of the drivers behind at night so you don't need to dip your mirror) and amazingly comfortable seats really make you want to drive this car… Read Full Review

Written on: 02/02/2007 by Ieuanfawr (68 reviews written)

After a month and 1,000 miles I've very pleased with my Citro n C4. The diesel engine pulls well, and perhaps could do with another 25hp, bit with the cruise control on at 70 mph, the trip computer gives around 60mpg. At idle, the engine sounds like a taxi from outside, but inside you wouldn't know it's a diesel.

The 60 litre tank should give 600 miles, which can be followed on the trip computer - in mpg or l/100km, in almost any European language.

I'm tall (1.87m) and there's plenty of… Read Full Review

UPDATE

(I actually have the C4 1.6 HDi (110) VTR+ hatchback - apols for posting in the place.)

After three months and 3,000 miles, there's not much to report.
The fuel consumption was a fraction under 50mpg, and oil consumption was negligible.
There's been no need to visit the dealers.

The conversion to RHD is not as good as it should be, with various switches and displays still set up for LHD. Some friends with C4s have found the (LHD) wiper set up annoying though that's one thing that's not come to my attention. However, the reflections of the top of dash in the windscreen can be very annoying.

I'm looking to fit a second aerial for a DAB radio, and that is looking very time consuming, requiring great care to remove and replace the roof lining. The replacement of the head unit itself is straightforward but requires C4 specific adapters to retain use of the controls on the steering wheel.

We also own a 52 reg Ford Focus, which now seems dated, and when there is a choice, it gets left behind on the drive as the C4 is far more comfortable (much bigger seats, better A/C, relaxed motorway cruising) and more economical (by a good 25%).

UPDATE 2

After 6 months and 11,000 miles, the C4 has performed excellently.

Fuel consumption has improved, and the last tankful did a fraction over 56mpg according to the trip computer. The total oil consumption during the period has been about 0.5 litre.

The computer indicated the 25,000 mile service was needed, and this performed without fuss by Caledonia of Chester for a fraction over £200. They also enabled, without charge, the AUX1 port so I could play the iPod through the speakers.

The fitting of a second aerial has proved extremely difficult, and I’m reluctant to have holes cut into the body work for it, as this is really the only way ensure a strong signal. An internal stick-on windscreen is not really an option as the athermic/anti-UV windscreen can severely reduce the signal strength. Fitting the DAB radio in place of the standard Blaupunkt was straightforward, but requires an aerial connector adaptor and an additional interface to ensure the remote steering wheel controls, speed sensitive volume, parking sensors, &c. are still active. I’ve exhausted many of the aerial options for a strong signal and have more or less given up on that project.

The front tyres were down to the wear limit, and after shopping around, I replaced them with the same 205/50 R17 Michelin Exaltos. They aren’t cheap (£170 each retail) but they are ones recommended by Citroën and are very reassuring in the wet and under heavy braking. I eventually bought them online via BlackCircles.com with an Owners Club discount and had them fitted at a specialist local tyre dealer as the wheels are non-standard, probably saving over £35 per tyre.

The front windscreen wiper blades, Bosch AeroTwins, were replaced. The Citroën RRP is about £47 but shopped around and got them for about £32 mail order. They are very good, cleaning the screen really well with no lift-off or reduction in performance at high speed.

One of my children over filled the glove box and slammed the door, jamming it. Fortunately the hinges were easy to release and everything was put right with little fuss.

The seats are superbly comfortable, and with 70 mph cruising at 60mpg, and full climate control, even driving to work can be a very relaxing experience.

My worse experience has been returning to the car after shopping at Sainsbury’s to discover some mindless idiot had backed in the rear nearside quarter, leaving £250 worth of damage. Thank you very much.

Written on: 21/02/2006 by Gazza27 (1 review written)

I bought my Citroen C4 to replace the Ford Mondeo that I had. The Mondeo was too large for my general driving, and parking in tight spots was nigh-on impossible. First impressions of the car are great, but the gadgetry and gimmicks soon fade away to leave what is essentially a run-of-the-mill mid-sized family car.

The car looks great, is very frugal, and delivers a comfortable ride. Wasn't a common sight on the roads, but that is changing. The central LCD panel is fantastic, giving a clear… Read Full Review

My experience is the reverse.

Being the owner of a both a Citroen C4 VTR+ 5dr and a Focus Zetec 5dr, we take the C4 every time. It's quieter, roomier, more comfortable, uses less fuel, looks better and is less problematic.

The Ford leaks - we're on the third (heated) windscreen and second set of carpets; there's been a misfire and loss of power when needing to accelerate uphill, which the dealer can't cure, and it causes unbelievable interference on the radio; the dealer has broken both the headlamp covers when replacing the bulbs, and charges over £40 to change the offside one; and it takes ages to remove the rear headrests and fold the back seats down.

Initially I was very impressed with the Citroen C4 an exceptionally efficient 1.6 Diesel Turbo. Plenty of low end grunt and overtaking is a breeze.
But a few problems have arisen, the ABS and ESP packed up after 1,200 miles and the carpet trim came loose. A minor niggle is getting a soaking whenever you open the hatchback when it has rained. I still like the car though… Read Full Review

Watch out - my brake pads and discs gave up after 11 months of ownership and apparently even though I'd only had the car this long from new with an alleged 60,000 mile warranty, and having only covered 12,500 miles I had to pay for new brakes and pads over £200.

Written on: 09/11/2005 by scottcowap (1 review written)

I've now covered nearly 6,000 miles since new six months ago in my Citroen C4 1.6, and the diesel engine's just starting to free-up. It has a very impressive amount of torque at low revs, and is quiet right through the rev range. In practice, at very nearly 30mph per 1000 revs, I rarely exceed 3 - 3,500 rpm, although do let it sing to 4,250 at least once a week to help maintain and clean the injectors.
It's incredibly economical, achieving 65 to 70 mpg on motorway runs (at between 55 to 70mph)… Read Full Review
