Good Points: Low initial and maintenance costs.Only replacements have been taillight bulbs (from so much usage), tires, oil and air filters and plugs. I have dumped the bike on both sides at slow speeds with only minor cosmetic damage to handle grip ends and outer edge of upper fairings. These scapes are hardly noticable and I haven't bothered to repair them. Excellent versatile peformance: commuter, carver of twisties, as well as cross country tourer - I've used it for all.. All of its systems (engine, suspension, electronics, ergonomics, frame, etc.) reflect state-of-the-art thinking, modern technology, and reliability at an excellent price. Center stand, unavailable on comparable models, facilitates chain lubing and "upright ergomomics" allows for much longer - less tiring rides than the pure 600 or 1K liter - lower gripped - racing bikes can even approach. Black underbody on '07 and later models obviates need for frequent cleaning. A marvelous creation!
Bad Points: Only bad point is that when swinging my boot over the saddle it scraped the edge of the decal on the top right side panel thus exposing a small line of white primer paint underneath. No big deal, but a dissapointment.
General comments: After logging 49K on my '04 FZ6, in May of '07 I traded it in on an '07 FZ6 which had addressed all shortcomings of the '04 (e.g. absence of helmet lock, improved instrument pod, all black vs aluminum underbody, better seat locking, cleaner front fairing/windscreen, better tweaked for enhanced midrange get up and go.
14 months into my '07 ownership I have 32K on it including 10K for a cross country camping trip using large Ortlieb (sp?) waterproof soft luggage.
I am 75 years old. 75 years old!
I have ridden many different bikes from cruisers to sport tourers to tourers all over the country for over 40 years.
This is the bike I'll go out on, except that it makes me younger and younger as I grimace while smoking almost all other bikes -adult or kid ridden. An absolute blast!
Though I occasionally look at other comparable bikes (e.g. Suzuki V Strom, BMW ST800, etc.), in my judgment, no other machine has it so all together in such an economical and versatile package.
Congrats and thanks to Yamaha for designing and manufacturing a machine that will carry baby boomers (and their parents) well into the 21st century..
I've stopped looking at others. "This is the last time I will fall in love with a bike."

late 2007 model S2 Yamaha. Great middleweight. Tried the street triple, bandit and hornet - price/performance wise this is tops. Floats into corners, accelerates/brakes/handles brilliantly. 2-up its stable and easy to ride. Finish is excellent, should last. Attracts looks cruisin through town (maybe its the strange person on top). Looking forward to a great summer.
A great bike for burning up country roads - lots of fun-factor. Can't wait to ride home at night.

This is a fantastic all round bike. I'd recommend it to anyone! You can ride it in low revs to keep the engine quiet and not wake the neighbours but as soon as you get on the road you can open it up and it creates quite a sound. The control and feel is great and it handles well even with someone on the back. I use mine to commute and as a tourer bike (I got some fabric panniers that do the job well). When windy it can be a little choppy, but I've driven faired bikes that react badly when hit wit ...

What do bike journo's know? They say the bike only works if you rev it to the redline, they say the brakes are rubbish, they say the bike nicked it's looks from the MV Brutale...
Absolute nonsense.
The engine pulls cleanly if you're in the right gear fellas, (it's a 600 remember?), and I've hit 135mph on British roads without taking it to the redline, yes it's revvy, but it's from the old R6 so what did you expect?
The brakes can handle more than everyday speeds, they don't lock easily and are o ...

I love this bike and not just because it's my first "big" bike. I've ridden a few others in the same class, ER-5, GS-500 etc. Albeit not for the same period of time and this outstrips everything I have ridden.Mine is the fared version which adds to the looks with the "fox eyes" headlamps borrowed from the R1. The faring doesn't keep all the wind off but it is noticeable compared to "naked" bikes I've ridden. Ride comfort is great, giving good road vision and no back-ache. I've seen others say th ...

I currently have other bikes, 1999 R1/ 2004 R1, 999 Ducatiand a 1977 GS 550 Suzuki. The bike that I ride the most is the FZ6 as I have more fun on it compared to the others.
The FZ still records 140+ on the clock (on closed roads) which I feel is fast enough for most riders.
Breaks are better than most testers would have you believe and once you remove the cat it will rev faster and pull better through the rev range. Overall a great all round Motorcycle.

Fun to ride bike, that looks great and the Yamaha FZ6 doesn't drain your bank account. Comfortable ride, easy to maneuver in traffic, responsive, and lighweight. The only bad point I can find is there is no helmet lock.

The Yamaha FZ6 in all black looks amazing, my wife said what colour to have, I love this bike, it get me to work and out with friends, and looks good against any bike when out. The only comment is poor key access and no helmet lock, so what two small things,

The Yamaha FZ6 is an amazing bike if you want a bike that will get you to work, take you shopping and going out for the weekend ride with your friends. I ride with people who have R6's and R1's etc and I'm never left behind. This bike is quick, powerful, comfortable and never fails.

The Yamaha FZ6 motorbike is everything I wanted, but it's the little things. No helmet lock. The key is in such an out of the way place it's easy to leave it on the bike, and there is no storage at all. Every time I get a flat tyre it costs somewhere between $150 and $200.
