hi chris .like anywhere you have to be careufl of HIV and STD. Please dont go to the brothels. They have a high risk of these infections and are not literate about these dangers. Take necesary precautions and be safe. Mumbai has a high risk of HIV. As far as I know, there is no problem to take a female to a hotel in mumbai.

“A Great Holiday In August 2011”

★★★★★

written by PieandMash on 25/08/2011

From the time we arrived at the hotel our holiday needs were taken care of, the staff could not do enough for us. The food was of a very good standard which reading other reviews came as a refreshing surprise. The lobby and beach bar staff were excellent as were the staff in the main restaurant. The animation team were friendly and there was no fighting or having to get out early to get a sun bed. Our cleaner did a first class job every day and the public toilets spotless. A tip would be have a good look around because we found a fourth swimming pool and bar after being there for 12 days it was so relaxing. If there was any downside to the holiday it was that our grandson (aged 12) could not speak Russian or Italian he played with a few but would have been better than using hand signs and gestures. Our room was spacious and quite (Room 350) considering the time of year August 7th - 21st, we will be going back and look forward to the same level of care we have been shown.

“The hotel positions itself as a five-star hotel. I...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 27/07/2010

The hotel positions itself as a five-star hotel. I would hardly give this hotel even a half star.
Check in. The first thing that impressed me was the quality of the paper on which restaurants schedule was printed. The paper was crumbled with ink blots and had curved unreadable text. It seems that printer and paper has never been changed since hotel opening. Then we've been asked to sign paper that we oblige not to purchase food, not to bring food to the hotel and not to eat food. In case hotel management will find food in our room the food will be confiscated (and probably eaten by management later). This paper is nothing but to laugh. I have never seen anything similar.
The room that the hotel provided was with separate beds despite of the fact that we asked for a king-size bad. Hotel management told us that they can't provide us room with king-size bad because all king-size bed rooms are currently occupied. However two rooms nearby with king-size bad were not occupied. Later these rooms were occupied by people who asked for separate beds. It seems that all hotel stuff don't want to help you. It seems that they are even happy to make you disappointed. For any services they want to get extra money from you.
The room was dirty with crumpled sheets. Cartoons were dirty and with wholes. On the table we found dusty booklets of spa salon. There was no iron in the room. No tea cattle. No cups. On the second day my wife cleared furniture in the bathroom. Originally the furniture had white color. The idea is brilliant but not for Egypt. In the bathroom we found shampoos and body gels. However the producer of these goods was unknown. And that is not suppressing for Egypt. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANY TROUBLES WITH THE SKIN TAKE SHAMPOOS, BODY GEL AND SOAP (BETTER ANTIBACTERIAL) WITH YOU. There was no tap in the bath. At first we were suppressed, however when we saw the color of the water we understand why the tap was not provided. The water was rusty with strong smell. Our room had in-room safe. I put documents to the safe. In the morning I was not able to open the safe (in the evening I double checked the safe to make sure it is working). There was an error. Without leaving the room I called reception and asked them to send someone to open the safe. After the safe was opened I went to reception and asked them to provide me safe at reception. They asked me why I need safe at reception if I have in-room safe. I explained the situation and told that after this incident I don't trust in-room safe. Near in-room safe you will find paper with something like "Safe for play". Under this text in small font you will read that hotel is not responsible for any valuable things left in in-room safe. Also at one of hotel booklets I read that due to Egyptian laws hotel is not responsible for any losses in the rooms. Realizing this I put remaining valuable things like camera into suitcase and locked it. The key was always with me. The room has central air conditioner as well. I have never seen so old control panel. When switched on air condition is very noise. It is impossible to sleep.
Hotel stuff leaves plates with food in hotel corridor. Some time the plates are left for half a day. As a result big red ants live in corridors.
First breakfast surprised us greatly. Drinks: yesterday boiled tea and coffee, also something that they call juice (strange liquid made from water and aromatic powder). It was possible to eat only bread, boiled eggs and omelet. BE READY THAT THE QUALITY OF EGYPTIAN FOOD IS MEASURED BY THE FREQUENCY YOU USE TOILET AFTER EATING SOMETHING.
First visit of the sea leaves not the best impressions as well. The beach territory is big and there is also enough free seats. Beach beds are made of wood and polished. This polish leaves traces on closes. DON'T SEAT ON WOODEN PARTS OF THE BEACH BEDS. The entrance to the sea is from the pontoon or from the beach. The pontoon is quite small and always overcrowded with people. In order to get to the sea or get out of the sea you have to wait in queue. ONLY ONE LIFEGUARD IS HERE. This man was small and tired I could hardly imagine how he can safe someone. The only thing lifeguard did is asking newcomers to jump to the sea or to leave pontoon. Sea depths near pontoon is 15 meters approximately. If you afraid of the depths, you are with kids or don't want to wait in the queue you can enter the sea from the beach. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION THE SEA IS FULL OF SHARP STONES AND CORALS. BUY SPECIAL SHOOS. The depths of the sea here is from 20 centimeters to 1 meter. Of course it is impossible to swim. Some people were spraying themselves with the salt water using buckets they brought from home. This could be good alternative to swimming.
Dinner and supper. As I wrote previously the quality of the food is measured here by the frequency you use the toilet after eating. Everything is very individual. Nevertheless I have not seen people who did not supper from stomach disorders. My wife was seriously ill twice. First time after eating ice cream, second time after trying sauce both times with high temperature. At home she never suffers from stomach disorders. I was mole "lucky" I had ordinary diarrhea. Basic meals are - fish, bread, chicken, spaghetti, rise. Different combinations of these meals are presented as oriental kitchen, Italian kitchen, French kitchen, etc. However the taste and the effect of these meals are always the same. The restaurant is overcrowded by people. Sometimes it is very difficult to find not occupied table. Don't wait that waiter will assist you in finding table ask him for help. By the way waiter's uniform is always dirty. I can't say anything special terrible about waiters they work as they can. The other question is that there are not enough waiters. It is management mistake. The hygiene in the restaurant is the question that requires addition review. Here I want to say that I have never seen clean table. If the waiter drops the spoon he will put it to the table without clearing it. For us getting meal has become a torture. You have to eat something, but the consequences of getting meal are unpredictable.
Drinks. We had proffered all inclusive. This allows to drink local drinks and to eat at one restaurant "white cruiser". Once we tried local red wine. The taste and the smell of this liquid was disgusting. We have never tried any other local drinks. It is possible to buy western drinks here, but stuff is clever enough to give you local drinks instead of western. Fraud is very popular here. Be careful. It is quite safety to drink cola, sprite or any other western non alcoholic drinks because it is difficult to fabricate them. But I would recommend using drinks without ice as you can't be sure of the quality of the water used to produce the ice. Tap water is unsafely to drink and even to use for cleaning teeth. Baraka water is unsafely to drink as well you will realize this after tasting this water. At some forum I've seen recommendation to take water disinfection tablets. I thought it is a joke. Now I realize how seriously I was mistaken.
In general hotel stuff is very unfriendly. All the time they want to get additional money from you. They never smile. They never ask how you are. They never ask if you like the hotel. However one positive case I want to mention. When my wife felt herself terribly and nearly lost cosines near lobby the boy (ordinary cleaner) brought her towel with ice. None of management helped us. We are very thankful to this boy. Of course I gave him money. He deserved them.
There is no currency exchange in the hotel, but they have ATM. It is possible to withdraw money in local currency. There are some shops in the hotel. We did some purchases: alkaline batteries $10 for 4 batteries, cotton pellet - $5, chocolate from Switzerland - $5.
Never we had so disgusting vacation as in Egypt. There was absolutely nothing positive. Prior to visit to Egypt I did not take negative reviews seriously. But all negative facts about Sheraton Sharm from reviews I have seen are bitter truth I checked personally. Never in my life I will visit Egypt again. And I would not recommend anyone to visit it.
I was deeply shocked by the fact that Starwood Hotel management can't provide five-star hotel quality. Prior to my visit to Egypt I have never used hotels of this group. And now I will not use them anywhere. If they can't provide 5 star qualities in Egypt I don't believe they can do it Dubai for instance.
My wife and I travel a lot. We lived in hotels and villas from 3 to 5 starts. Basically in 5 star hotels from Hilton, Marriot, Jumeirah, Ritz-Сarlton groups. Never it was so disgusting as in Sheraton Sharm. Despite of the fact that this hotel has relatively chip price even this is waste of money.

“You get what you pay for! Whilst the hotel is...”

★★★★★

written by johnglasgow on 11/02/2008

You get what you pay for! Whilst the hotel is luxurious and well worth its 5 star rating the accommodation in the resort would merit between 3 and 4 star!
The staff are exceptionally friendly and very obliging and the buffet style meals are quite good, although sometimes a bit repetitive. We avoided the cream based desserts as they weren't in any way refrigerated!
Try the Lebanese restaurant in the main hotel- well worth a visit.

“I booked the Sheraton Sharm Hotel on an All Inclusive...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rene34 on 27/07/2007

I booked the Sheraton Sharm Hotel on an All Inclusive basis. When I arrived we were told it was not all inclusive and had to pay in the Italian restaurant and A La Carte Restaurant. Some of the bars you had to pay for too. This is wrong. Why say it's All Inclusive when it's not! Have never had a bad holiday in 25 years of going away until my visit to the Sharm Hotel in Egypt.

“We stayed in the Sheraton Sharm Hotel, Breakfast was...”

★★★★☆

written by npevler on 11/03/2005

We stayed in the Sheraton Sharm Hotel, Breakfast was buffet style and good. Rooms where large and clean with a good selection of TV channels. Hotel staff were well presented and fairly helpfull. The in house food was average but be warned avoid the dinner buffet it cost £22 per head (which is extremley expensive for Sharm) and the food was very poor. The Complex is located on the Peace Road but is a taxi ride away from any shops, bars or nightlife. Its is worth getting out though as once outside of the hotel complex everything becomes very cheap. Visit Na'maa Bay for the closest shops and night life. One final warning do not wait to buy gift and duty free from the airport as price can be as much as double what they are in Na'maa Bay Supermarkets. You will probably come away from Egypt with the feeling that everybody was after your money. (And you would be right!!)

“The Sheraton Sharm Hotel rating of 4 star was about...”

★★★★★

written by murphyp on 12/02/2005

The Sheraton Sharm Hotel rating of 4 star was about right. There were a couple of occasions when the standards dropped, ie our room was not cleaned twice during our stay, the last time was when we had given the cleaner a tip on his final shift and he failed to return to clean the room, promising to come back in 10 minutes. Also, the waitress took two bananas from someone who was taking them out of the restaurant after their breakfast!

“Having read the other reports on Sheraton Sharm Hotel...”

★★☆☆☆

written by JohnHowlett on 16/11/2004

Having read the other reports on Sheraton Sharm Hotel I will try and make this as balanced and fair report as I can. I am writing this 2 days after returning from a week there - so I hope the comments are not only a fair reflection but also accurate.

We understood we had booked a room in the hotel and on arrival found ourselves in the resort. Not the first time this has happen (see above) - we had checked with Cosmos - before departure and were assured of a room in the hotel. On checking in - there was no movement on this from the staff on the ground. Not a great start.

We arrived on the late flight from Manchester to a dark hotel complex, and ushered straight onto a bus to our room. We unpacked and then ventured out to get something to eat. We retraced the route of the bus to the reception of the resort, and asked about what options there were to eat. We were told only 1 restaurant (the half moon) and ended up eating there. It was truly an expensive and uninspiring meal. A mistake that we did not repeat again. We later found a series of restaurants in the hotel which were better in terms of price and significantly tastier - e.g. the Italian themed restaurant is worth the money.

The rooms in the resort area are all centred around their own pool, and most rooms have a sea view - which we didn't appreciate until the morning when there was daylight. A pleasant surprise. A more unpleasant surprise was the concrete batching plant on an adjacent site to the rear of the room (Manta Block only affected by this I think).

Do not try to estimate the size of this resort. While we were able to walk around for the most part as the temperature was 34 max, if you were there in the height of summer, it would be really tiring to walk from the resort to the beach - which is accessed by getting yourself through the main hotel reception and taking the lift down 6 floors (nice views from the glazed lift however).

Showers? Treat with caution and be patient. See useful comment above! It mostly works!

Whilst there is a shuttle bus to take you around the resort and this does run frequently, we found it a pain to have to walk 5 minutes to get breakfast at the Half Moon Restaurant each morning, to then have to return to your room to then walk/bus back to reception to get picked up to go diving.

We have stayed in 3 different hotels in Sharm and thought we would treat ourselves to an alleged 5* hotel as a change. This hotel is no better than some of the others in the Ras Um Sid area, and certainly more expensive than them. I would not be prepared to stay here again as it does not represent good value for money.

I recognise that Egypt is a developing country but this does not necessitate over generous descriptions in the brochure, or the need for hotel staff to act like it is a 5* hotel - e.g. once it took 15mins of waiting at reception to get the attention of a member of staff (2 attending to people, 3 members of staff behind the desk in the same clothes, apparently doing nothing).

“Just returned from fortnight at Sheraton Sharm Hotel. ...”

★★☆☆☆

written by bud007 on 06/10/2004

Just returned from fortnight at Sheraton Sharm Hotel. I Assumed I had booked into Hotel itself but herded round to the resort area. My Room was very basic, the fridge in the room managed to chill stuff after ten days! Our king size bed was two beds pushed together! The Resort catered to the large volume of Italians who holiday here. Food at the Half Moon, which is where you are allocated to eat if on half board and staying in the resort area is uninspiring and caters to the Italian clients, You can eat at other restaurants at the hotel and are discounted 40% off the final bill. This is even if you are on half board basis at the resort. Smoking everywhere particularly awful in restaurant. There are non smoking tables but you are surrounded by smoking tables so it defeats the purpose. There is a shuttle service from the hotel into Nama Bay which you pay for at the main hotel reception. I found Nama Bay to be very commercial and felt like I was somewhere on the Costa del sol and not in Egypt. On the plus side there were loads of beds on the beach and you are provided with towels no need to bring your own. The Spa was a haven for me when my husband went off diving. If you pay for treatments with a credit card they will convert the cost into US Dollars. According to our rep the best hotel in Sharm is the Hyatt Regency. Overall disappointed if you stay in the resort I would class this as a three star and no where near a five star as listed.

“After being assured we were booked into the Sheraton...”

★★★★☆

written by dionnesewmad on 07/03/2004

After being assured we were booked into the Sheraton Sharm Hotel and then receiving a letter seven days before departure saying that we were booked into the Resort(complete tour company cock-up) we approached this holiday with great trepidation. What a beautiful surprise. The resort is laid out on three very spacious levels each with its'own pool and bar and three or four two storey crescents surrounding. We had a ground floor room with Terrace and a small garden. The landscaping of the whole complex is excellent and the walk to the main hotel was most enjoyable (5-7 mins and about the only exercise we took). We had full use of the hotel facilities and it was a nice feeling to 'go home at night'. Most people we spoke to staying in the Hotel had not ventured out into the extensive grounds and had certainly missed out on some beautiful scenery. The only down side I can think of was the showers which either ran hot or cold and needed careful adjustment.(for anyone holidaying here turn the cold on first and bring the hot on very slowly),and of course the power cuts, but having lived in Asia for many years, such is life. We are planning our return.

“The Sheraton Sharm HOTEL. ***IMPORTANT*** Make sure,...”

★★☆☆☆

written by markl23 on 14/12/2003

The Sheraton Sharm HOTEL. ***IMPORTANT*** Make sure, if booking this hotel, that you find out exactly what kind of accomodation you will be staying in. The "Resort" is separate from the "Hotel" and is not shown in ANY brochure or website. We arrived, and were shown to a backpackers' dorm-type room, about 7mins walk from the Resort reception, which was not as clean as one would expect, had a non-working fridge, pancake-flat pillows, no kettle or bath and a defective shower. After the powercuts finished, our visit to the main Hotel reception established that it would cost $60 per night to move to the main hotel. The Thomas Cook rep, although sympathetic, was unable to be of much assistance, except to facilitate our move to a room closer to the reception/restuarant, which contained a fridge which was able to chill its contents to around 5 degrees below room temp. and a shower with an automatic function of changing the water temp from red hot to freezing cold and back again at will.

The FOOD. Easily the worst aspect of the hotel. Considering this was an international chain hotel, albeit with Egyptian management, the food was a disgrace. At breakfast, the scrambled egg was the only palateable item - it was accompanied by a number of lukewarm or cold items whick I would not even expect to see in an Afgan YMCA. This standard of food was typical of all the hotel's restaurants, which had limited menus, usually with several dishes unavailable, those dishes which were available usually not served as per the the menu description or, due to the non-availability in that part of the world of many essential ingredients, prepared in a most substandard manner.

The STAFF. Although friendly, seemed to have little idea of the requirements of western guests, an impression borne out by one of the European staff at the hotel who was about to resign out of frustration.

Naturally, peoples' standards differ, and I spoke to British guests at this hotel who had few complaints. In my own opinion, this hotel, in particular the food, was a great disappointment, BUT, having visited the Crowne Plaza Hotel and finding similar standards, I can only assume that these levels are typical of all "4 Star" hotels in the resort and, having visited the "5 Star" Hyatt Regency and found much better, although not up to the standard of any other 5 Star establisment I have visited in the world, food and surroundings, can only concur with the member of staff at the casino I visited, who informed me that the Hyatt, along with the Four Seasons, are the only two "quality" hotels in the resort.

We have just returned from the Sheraton Sharm and found it quite the opposite from your comments and the food was exellent, we did not expect English food and there was a good variety of other countries dishes. You cannot expect English meals where ever you go in the world.
