“|Amazing Ocean View Apartments”

★★★★★

written by on 18/10/2011

My wife and I just spent a wonderful week at the alfagar Village in an Ocean View apartment Oct 9-17 during the end of the local season . It was amazing period. Waking up to the lapping ocean waves along the coast was therapy in itself. Being able to cook our own meals was great (the real supermarket is only about 1 mile walk from the village so no need to spend 20-40% more in the tiny market in the village). There are a number of pools both for little kids and grown ups so you don't have to be bothered by screaming running kids if you don't have them or don't want to be around them :-). The beach was absolutely magical while we were there. The water was pa perfect temperature. just jump in to cool down and take a few laps before going back to either your own towel or the plenty of rentable chairs with or without umbrellas.

★★★★★

written by Paul Grainger on 13/08/2008

The site and apartments are very clean and well maintained and the staff very friendly.
I thoroughly recommend the Alfagar to anyone with children. There is a kids club on site run by Thomas Cook and there are three swimming pools to help keep them amused. (as well as the big kids like me of course) The supermarket on-site is overpriced in my opinion and I thought the entertainment at night was a little tacky to say the least. (But it was amusing as well from time to time) There was some building work going on behind our apartment but to be honest it didn't cause any excess noise or disruption. Overall we had an excellent time there and would definitely go back again.

“We have stayed at the Alfagar Apartment Complex...”

★★★★★

written by EDDIE MILLAR on 21/09/2007

We have stayed at the Alfagar Apartment Complex several times within the past 2/3 years. The pool area's were first class, staff very friendly and food good.
Bathroom in our apt. had no ventilation. What they had was a small drain top stuck to the side of the bath! Not very child friendly i.e. pathway to beach had a sheer drop of 70/80 ft. No safety rails of any sort. People with small children must have had a nightmare every time they used this pathway or seen their children near it. Not to mention older people using same and slipping/tripping. But at a brilliant location, very central.

Tip: Do not use complex reception to make a phone call back home. We did and it cost us over €30. The following night we made a similar call back home using the local phone centre on the strip. Cost less than €3.
Regardless of the negative I mentioned, we enjoyed our stay at the Alfagar and intend to return shortly.

Could do with having a small welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk and sugar for people who arrive after shop has closed and do not want to go to the bar. Cleaners were very efficient and thorough.
Enjoyed the entertainment.

It was OK, and I will be going back just because of the location of it, but other than that nothing really appealed to me. The rooms were dirty, and the entertainment was the worst thing I have ever heard. I heard the entertainer at the Alfagar Apartment Complex in Albufeira on the Saturday, and he was shouting at a member of the audience for singing along, exclaiming "do you mind not singing along, tonight is for me. Karaoke is tomorrow night".

The Alfagar Apartment Complex in Albufeira has great facilities, including tennis courts and a football pitch. Delightful surroundings, and not far from the Strip, which is a lively night time street filled with bars and restaurants, and of course lots of souvenir shops and people.

Our holiday was blissful, and I would most certainly go back.

★★★★☆

written by tracey d hall on 06/11/2005

After reading all the reports on here, we were worried what Alfagar Apartment Complex would be like, but we had a great time. Entertainment every night. Very much a family place, but with 3 swimming pools, ideal to keep children entertained. Games room also kept the children entertained, along with the nighly entertainment. Food ok, but we usually went into the town to experience local cuisine in the evening. A few cockroaches (which I'm terrified of!), but only after we had a day of rain. We didn't see any for 5 days, and for the time of year we did very well. Not seen any on previous holidays, but always stayed in hotels in the past.

We would recommend the place, as long as you don't mind walking into Albufeira! Oh yes, swimming with the dolphins is a must!

★★★★★

written by nickiblake on 03/08/2004

Just as the photos show Alfagar Apartment Complex is clean and spacious. Place is kept well maintained, we had a fault with our fan, patio door and deposit box but all were sorted out straight away. Staff are very friendly.
Entertainment was fine but the crowd did not join in that much, some were sat there like cardboard cut outs!
Nice and peaceful at night
Food was fine, but not much of a choice if you are wanting to try local dishes.
Walk to town is a bit much but the taxi was cheap
the rock climb to the beach was not as bad as the road way
All in all we had a great week and would not hesitate in returning

I Would have had an excellent holiday at Alfagar Apartment Complex, apart from the work going out directly underneath our apartment, staff couldn't even be bothered to apologise, despite 3 complaint letters

Overall I had a good time, but Alfagar Apartment Complex lacked a certain sense of an atmosphere. The place wasn't 'buzzing' at night but then again I am young and I was expecting some fun.

★★☆☆☆

written by bigtuna on 14/04/2004

Upon arrival at Alfagar Apartment Complex our room was not ready, a walk around the complex proved the main pool area which convinced us to buy this holiday; was a Construction site with serious renovations taking place and the building of a pool complex building, our room furniture was like sitting on concrete, a faulty cooker knob led to my wife burning her hand, the only pool in use was ice cold (to be expected at Easter) there was a boarded up pool bar not in use next to the pool in use, the baby pool bottom was breaking up and there was hundreds of sharp tiles loose on the bottom, the cafe and restaurant meat dishes were consistently awful and left a feeling of being ripped off at UK prices for sub-standard food.
On a positive side you could see that this was a picturesque complex and the staff were trying hard to present it nicely, the rooms were cleaned every day and the overal hygiene was very good. Once the Construction activities are complete, the pool bars open and the pool water heats up in the Summer I can see this being a very pleasant venue to base yourself for a break in the Algarve - just eat out!! Oh and avoid the lethal cooker!! Oh and don't expect a comfy seat for a couple of weeks!!

WORST HOLIDAY WE HAVE EVER HAD - WHOLE FAMILY HAD TO GO TO HOSPITAL DUE TO SWIMMING POOL'S HYGENE.

Our Algarve holiday was based on 'on arrival'. As this can be tricky at the best of times we were delighted to see Alfagar Apartments we were allocated. The apartment was just terrific as was the service of the staff and not to mention the great craic we had in the bar. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Alfagar to anyone.

“The Alfagar Apartments complex had a pleasant...”

★★★★☆

written by Mark Mathews on 16/10/2003

The Alfagar Apartments complex had a pleasant exterior, set adjacent to cliff edge with plenty of well looked after soft landscaping including pine trees and cobbled paths.

Staff were very friendly and chatty, and were always there to help.

There are 3 pools on site. One is a childrens pool, the other two are large with plenty of sun lounger space. The pool next to the cliff path is especially pleasant.

There was plenty of options on the resturant and bar food menus and the onsite shop was well stocked. Evening entertainment was daily which included a local Alargavian music night.

The apartments were a two minute walk away from Santa Eulalia Beach. The beach has plenty of sun loungers, a couple of bars and really soft sand. The water wasn't that cold either.

I spent my two weeks at Alfagar lounging by the pool and taking a dip in the sea with the evenings at the onsite resturant or taking in an evening visit to old Albufeira. Very relaxing.

The main Albufeira resort is a 30min walk to The Strip area with its bland bars, resturant and shops. The more plesent old Albufiera is a 1hr walk away. We hired a car for the two weeks but most people used taxis to get into town.

Overall we had a great relaxing holiday (although it was cloudy the 1st week we were there). Alfagar was by far the most pleasant hotel/apartment complex we saw in the Albufeira area (and we saw hundreds!). I would recommend the apartments if you are looking for a holiday by the pool and beach.

I certainly could spend the rest of my life relaxing in Alfagar's pool by the cliff edge watching the world go by.

“Alfagar apartments don't cater for childrens evening...”

★★★★☆

written by Bonita on 27/09/2003

Alfagar apartments don't cater for childrens evening entertainment and not really for adults entertainment except for Karaoke at the weekend O.K if your into that sort of thing.
The strip which is where the nearest night life is based is a jazzed up Blackpool.

Once you had been into one shop you've been to all.
The food wasn't very interesting and the same food sold everywhere.
Having said all this I did enjoy my holiday because it was a break and the sun shone all day.

I wouldn't go back to Albaferia because there are too many building sites where ever you look. The Santa Eulia beach has steps but very dangerous for small children best off walking the long way round as this is much safer. Water is very cold because its the Atlantic ocean and full of sea weed. Best of heading down to Maria Luisa Beach much cleaner, cleaner still is Vilamoura beach they even provide ashtrays to prevent smokers from sticking cigs in the sand.

Don't let what I've said put you off there are always bad points to any holiday no matter how small.

Albufeira is a great resort, perfect for adults or kids. Alfagar Apartments look good and has lots of space. There is a carpark. steps may be to steep for OAPs. Good service. Well kept. maybe to far from city centre but you can hire a car. friendly service and good food and drink. Defently good for a game of tennis. oh, and ice-creams are cheaper in the on site minimart than in the bar, and the marts an extra 2 mins away? stupid but it saves you money
