Good Points: Have decent reward programs, which make them appealing, good partnerships with companies such as Amazon and Borders Books.

    Bad Points: *Overkill on fraud
    *Extremely poor customer service
*Deny charges if made online or over 1,000, which are not so abnormal

General comments: Mt husband and I both had the Bank One reward cards, and one was affiliated with Amazon, and one with Borders. I cancelled mine after they denied several charges, and provided no notice to me, and then proceeded to lecture me about how it was all in my own best interests when I complained by telephone about the blocked card. I was not overdrawn nor late on payments. I was almost stranded when it happened, as I was low on gas, and it was the only card I had on hand. Luckily, I had 2 dollars in my pocket, but really, you should probably be able to rely on your credit provider.

The same thing happened to my husband some months later. We made a purchase at Best Buy which they flagged, and then proceeded to deny all charges, including recurring auto-pay utility charges that were not new. Then we got late charges and past due notices from these companies, all because of the credit card company policies.

If you have one of these cards to take advantage of the rewards, it is best to keep more reliable cards as well as back up. I just got rid of mine rather than suffer the embarrassment and inconvenience of having frequently declined charges. Unfortunately MBNA is now part of the Bank One / JPM Chase family, so I'm hoping their service doesn't begin to decline now too.
