General comments: Marksman Model 2010 A Review by DJMikeOz First Impressions I first saw this gun at my local Fred Myers store about two weeks ago. Not that I'm usually impressed by Marksmans products, but in this case I figured, "what the heck.". Taking notice that it seemed like a new product. It's actually quite a nice looking gun, so I purchased one. Just for the sake of reviewing and comparing it to my Crosman "Black Venom". Fit and Finish The overall look of this gun is that it seems to resemble a cross between an over-sized GLOCK or Ruger. It has a nice flat sheen to the plastic lower frame and a nice gloss silver metallic finish to the slide. The Marksmans "Bullseye" logo is presented on both sides of the grip and add a nice colorfull motif to the overall look. The only metal parts on this model are the Piston assembly inside the gun, the slide, and the barrel. The front site is a day glow "fiber optic" replica and the rear site is a simple gate wich is somewhat adjustable only because it is not glued in and is held in place by friction. The gun is somewhat balanced and feels just slightly nose heavy when unloaded. On the left side of the gun it has the usual information about safety and BB calibers, plus a serial number. On the left side it simply reads "MARKSMAN MODEL 2010" on the slide and "Huntington Beach, CA. U.S.A." on the frame above the trigger. Only one screw is visible on the entire gun, located on the left side above the safty selector just below the slide. The slide is seemingly well made. There are no seems or irregularities in the finish. There are over-sized serrations on the front and back and the mock ejection port is open. Although it serves no function besides aestetic. This is not a half bad looking gun. Function To opperate, simply thumb the slide catch, pull the slide back and push it forward again. Tilt the loading port up and load 18 BB's or individual darts, pellets, or bolts. Very simple in opperation and function. Same as the Marksman Model 2000, wich is all this "new" gun is, internally. If you have used or owned a Model 2000 then you can expect the same gun in a new body. Performance This is a big disappointment. If you plan on using this gun for target plinking, wich I may add is all you can use it for, then don't set your target any farther then 15 feet away. The range on this gun is lousy as is the accuracy. Scaring your neighbors is about all you're going to accomplish with this thing. Fortunately, it looks good enough to redeem the $18 I paid for it. Although, I'd rather have Paid $5. Someday Marksman may actually decide to compete with the other manufacturers, but until then, they seem to be content just selling something. The Facts Marksman Model 2010 Ammo: BB's, Lead Pellets, Darts, and Bolts Caliber: .177 cal. (4.5mm) Barrel: Smooth bore Weight: 1 lb. 8 oz. Velocity: 200 FPS Power Source: Sping piston Recommended Shooting Distance: 10 - 15 Feet with BB's For comparison; Crosman "Black Venom" 972BV Sites: Front: Fixed, Rear: Adjustable Caliber: .177 cal. (4.5mm) Barrel: Smooth bore Grip/Frame: Synthetic Velocity: BB-Up to 270 fps, Pellet-Up to 245 fps, Dart-Up to 185 fps Weight: 15 oz. Length: 10.75 in. Mechanism: BB Repeater, Single shot pellet/dart Power Source: Spring powered Final Words If you collect air guns then you may wish to purchase this gun just for the sake of owning one. Otherwise there's not much reson to buy it. It's innaccurate and underpowered. My experience with the Model 2000 years ago was a short lived one and I didn't think I'd ever buy one again. However, I did buy another one, it's the same sheep in different wolve's clothing. "Meek and Sleek" is an apt description for this gun. I wouldn't recommend this gun to a friend and I don't reccommend it for you either. Save your money for a Crocman or Daisy and you will be much more satisfied. DJMikeOz
