American band We Are Scientists have created a bit of a buzz recently behind the release of their debut single, "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt," which sounded a bit like Editors or The Departure with its obvious '80's references. "The Great Escape," their second single, skips them forward a decade and sounds like an angular and edgy piece of classic '90's Britpop with a few suggestions of what Devo might have sounded like had they used guitars instead of synths thrown on top. It's a clever and energetic piece of pop rock which suggests that We Are Scientists would feel right at home on a bill with Franz Ferdinand and the Kaiser Chiefs, but also has a harder edge to it than either of the above.
What all of this means is that We Are Scientists write great and unexpected indie guitar rock which is very much of the moment and which will have you pogoing around your bedroom quite happily, before you head down to your local disco to dance to it there as well.
