“Amazing service”

Written on: 04/12/2012 by RohanMelling

Came here for a friends birthday today and I must say the food was delicious, the service was amazing and the effort they put in for a birthday is phenomenal. I would recommend this place to anybody, and I'll be going for my birthday for sure. The price was a little much, but due to the amount of food and, in some cases, the fact we have stuff like Crocodile and Ostrich, that's to be expected. (read more)

“Pleasantly Surprised ”

Written on: 24/09/2011 by AliBongo72 (1 review written)

We visited Jabula in Ellesmere Port on Friday 23/9/11 My cousin who is from South Africa originally booked the table, for us and our mothers. I don't live too far away from Ellesmere Port, but the restaurant was easy to find and parking was close by and secure. When we stepped inside the restaurant straight away you felt the warmth friendly atmosphere, we chose our drinks and food and enjoyed watching the ships drive up the canal. Our food arrived 3 of us had Prawn Cocktail, whilst my... (read more)

“Slow and squalid! Don't go here!”

Written on: 15/06/2011

What an awfully outdated restaurant! I dine a lot around Chester and I've found this to be one of the most poor and run down restaurants I have ever visited. As soon as you walk in you feel like you've been transported back in time, the table cloths were stained and the colour scheme was sickening. There were cheap, tacky throw away paper napkins that you can buy from Costco pointing out of the wine glasses. There weren't enough wine glasses for all of us on the table and no attention to... It was an excellent atmosphere, really friendly and food superb will be going back for certain. It was my birthday and they could nt have treated us any better. They explained when I asked about different dishes and sauces thoroughly and the boerewors were gorgeous so if you want a friendly, happy, helpful restaurant with great food pay a visit, I highly recommend Jabula. If you've never been to Jabula you need to read this!

I have experienced some of the finest restaurants not just in the local area but right across the country however nothing has prepared me for the experience that is Jabula. The missiz and I decided to go out for lunch today and wanted to try somewhere new. I've heard the radio ad's in the past for Jabula and have recently edited the listing in the directory so thought we'd give it a try.

Every (and I do mean every) detail is attended... (read more)

The two of us went for my partner's Birthday, I mentioned in passing to the staff when I booked that we were coming for his birthday.

When we arrived they had decorated our table area, sang happy birthday to him in both English, Afrikanas and Zulu and produced a lovely birthday desert complete with candles.

The Restaurant itself was superb, we were made to feel very welcome

The food was excellent, the ostrich was cooked to perfection and the presentation was amazing and make sure you try... (read more)

We visited The Jabula Restaurant last Sunday (7th March 2010) to celebrate my dads birthday we were a party of 11 including my 2 grandchildren (2 and 5) and must say it is the best eating experience any of us have had for a long, long time. The staff were South African born, happy, helpful and very knowledgable. They made sure we were all extremely well cared for and made sure we had a lovely afternoon.

What an absolutely fantastic place!

When we were settled at our table a very nice young gentleman (who was a hit with the ladies I must say!) came over to get us some drinks and was very helpful with answering all questions that we had about the various South African drinks that were on offer. We received our drinks very quickly and the staff made sure our needs were met throughout the night.

Then came the food, which we didn't have to wait too long for and I can only describe as... (read more)

Food at Jabula is absolutely amazing. I love the Durban Curry and the Cabo botie which is a mince casserole and vegetables, glazed with egg on top. Today I had a vegetable kebab which was a selection of roasted mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and other seasonal veg in a very light coconut and chilli sauce with a small side order of couscous. The coucous was full of flavour and had small pieces of feta cheese in it - yum yum! (read more)

This is without a doubt my favourite restaurant around the area! The food is excellent, with a great range of dishes to suit all! The staff clearly have a real passion about the restaurant and the experience it provides!
For special events, inc. birthdays they often ask you to get involved by playing the African drums and downing a shot without using your hands to pick the glass up at all! Great fun and the whole atmosphere of Jabula is incomparible (read more)

This is something different, you can get all the normal dishes plus african dishes such as springbok, crocodile and ostrich all at reasonable prices, the presentation of the food is tremendous and the portions are excellent, you will not find better, altogether a really enjoyable dining experience, probably one of the best reataurants in Cheshire!! I disagree with this review because...this is one of the best restaurants and meals I've had in a long time. I would go back to Jabula without hesitation. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent and very tasty; all fresh veg and beautifully presented. No complaints. It would seem many people have the same opinion, as the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday evening. Also, people were revisiting from Manchester who commented that this restaurant would make a fortune if in their area.

The Jabula as far as I am concerned is one of the finest reataurants I have ever visited. I lived in London for fifteen years and this compares with the finest that even London can offer. The ambience is fantastic and the staff are wonderful friendly people who only wish to make you welcome and serve you with the most appetising food. Also you have the chance to try some wonderful South African Dishes. You have to wait a short while fior your food. Simply because everything is cooked fresh to order and I have never had any frozen vegetables served to me there. I have celebrated two birthdays there and been treated like simebody really special. So all I can say is if you want a lovely meal in pleasant surroundings. Then try Jabula in Ellesmere Port.. Sheila. a very satisfied customer.

I came originally from South Africa and I discovered Jabula in Ellesmere Port about a year ago. This is the only South African restaurant that I know of that serves traditional South African food as Mamma used to make it. The Bobotie, Durban Curry, Pap en Wors, Pot Luck is just like I had when I grew up. Its authentic atmosphere makes you think you are back home, and as it is run by a lady who came from South Africa. Hearing all the South African accents make you feel even more at home.

Fantastic! This is the only way I can describe our experience. The Jabula manager explained the dishes and how it is prepared which is helpful if you want to order authentic South African dishes.

We ordered the Durban Curry, Bobotie, Kudu (Game) and a chicken pot. The curry was beef mince curry and not as we know it. It was slightly sweet and different but very tasty. The Bobotie is a casserole dish. This was the first time I tasted it and will definitely have it again. The Kudu was served... (read more)

I had high hopes for the Jabula Restaurant, however ..

The 'tapas', was a very over priced and extremely frustrating and disappointing experience.

As the food arrived we were told to take one piece of meat and pass it along - one strip of meat aprox (1.5 inch by 1 cm) ostrich, crocodile, springbok, one meatball, you have to be kidding me How much am I paying for this insult again?.... No just turn my brain off and enjoy the experience.

I am sorry to say, "You must be joking". This is a unique and exciting restaurant and does not deserve such a bad review. I have been there several times now and have enjoyed it each and every time. The food is excellent and the wine is worth the price just as you would find in countless other restaurants. It saddened me to see anyone being so unfair and consider it an insult to many others and me, which have dined there in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it.
