PAWS/JLT Pet insurance
Absolutely awful. I have had a policy for 10 years and at first it was under £7 a month for a young cat. All the time I didn't claim it stayed low, going up about £1 a year. The minute I made a claim, the premiums shot up. Now it is over £29 a month!!
THIS MONTH they have outsourced their direct debit arrangements to PIN Finance. They did not tell me. But now I have to pay through PIN, who want to add an enormous credit charge. I have no choice but to cancel it all completely, leaving my cat uninsured because she is now at an age where I can't get her covered.
Any claims I put in were always hugely delayed. Usually had to wait at least 3 months for a cheque. TWICE when I chased up claims they insisted they had never received anything and I had to go back to the vet to get copies- even though I had sent them registered mail.
The excess got ridiculous- this year they want £210 excess PER CONDITION plus 30% of the remaining bill.
*also* they are very vague on the phone, not helpful at all and you can't download claim forms off the net, like you can with some insurers. You have to phone for a form each time (I photocopied some, but they wouldn't accept them) and they take 3 weeks to send the form.
My other pet is under Pet Plan and they are brilliant.

I have been with PAWS pet insurance for 11 years and did not think the premiums had gone up excessively. Our cat developed a heart condition last October and they paid the first 4 claims without a query. The last claim they only paid half of because they said her tablets were for 2 seperate conditions. The vet confirmed with this claim they are not but they have returned the claim upaid saying they need a full medical history. When I asked why they said because their files only go back 6 weeks! ...- Read Guest's review (125 words)

I have been with Paws pet insurance for over 14 years through its many changes and have steadily seen its prices and excess rise, but the latest premium if over £55 per month. This is daylight robbery and totally unacceptable, what more the excess and other penalties are outrageous, this would not happen in any other insurance sectors. I have cancelled my policy and am looking around for other policies for older dogs, which do exist. I suggest every one do the same who has a Paws policy.- Read Guest's review (86 words)

I too have been with JLT for many years and have had many pets insured with them. I was horrified to discover the policy for my dog had gone up from £39 to almost £65!! How can they justify this? On ringing them they told me they could reduce that amount to £54. Still outrageous and I told them 'no thanks' but I also questioned why they had quoted me £65 in the first place if they could 'reduce' it to £54. It's a rip off. I now have 2 cats and 2 dogs insured w ...- Read Guest's review (101 words)

Having insured my pets for over twenty years with Paws Pet Insurance - JLT or Jardine Cat Insurance, I am utterly shocked and disgusted at the recent increase in excess from £60 + 25% to £190 + 30% excess! Daylight robbery - I think Dick Turpin would even be shocked by this!

Have been with Paws for 12 years and claimed once last year for kidney stones treatment for my cat. I rang them today to see if I can claim for treatment for a possible overactive thyroid and to clarify the excess on the policy which seems to have gone through the roof. They have no record of me or my policy but are still taking my monthly premium from my bank account! Customer services very unhelpful, Would NOT recommend!!!- Read Guest's review (78 words)

I have just discovered that our excess has been hiked up to £250 + 30%. They sneak it in the small print and do not make it clear at all. My vet is horrified at the excess and has never experienced this amount ever - including larger animals.
I am now doing all I can to expose this practice PAWS Pet Insurance seem to adpot including going to Which? magazine.- Read Guest's review (68 words)

I have had Paws pet insurance for 14 years and have been quite satisfied with the premiums paid and the claims procedure, they did pay any claims, minus the excess. I have just had my renewal notice, this has increased by nearly £50 which I can cope with okay. What I don't like is that they have increased my excess from £85 to £170.00 because of the age of my cat. I am a pensioner and have to pay for my cat to be treated because I am just over the limit that I cannot cla ...- Read ourcat's review (131 words)

I now have my 3rd dog insured with Paws which means I have been a customer for about 20years. Molly is 9years old in November and has 2 ongoing vetinary conditions that need regular treatment one involves injections every 6 months and the other is an injection every 4 weeks. They have been paying this for 4 years and have never unduely increased the premium til now. Suddenly they have increased the premium by 50% and the excess by 300% that means I cant claim for anything under £350.- Read Guest's review (110 words)

I have Jardine, and I have found the same issues others have -- premiums shot up, they have to be asked several times for claim forms, reminded often before they send out the cheque.I think I will start logging the issues I have and look into with which agency handles complaints about insurance companies.- Read Guest's review (55 words)

When my cat was diagnosed with a tumour in her cheek, Paws Pet Insurance classed it as dental surgery, and didn't pay for her treatment. Even my vet disputed it was dental. This left us with a massive bill for the vet. We had been with them since 1992, and had never made a claim for her until 2008. Would never register any of my other cats with them again.- Read pearnc's review (68 words)

When my cat was diagnosed with diabetes they would only insure him for a year. I renewed my insurance in September 2008 for over £700 and when the cat died in November they paid out £218 and would not refund me the unused premium as other insurers do.
Would not recommend. Was unable to insure my cat with anyone else due to his age so I was stuck with them.- Read Guest's review (78 words)

After receiving a duplicate review later a month after the first letter! I rang up to query it. Got a member of staff who couldn ' t explain why, but mentioned as I was on a monthly contract they advised of premium changes, I said I was on an annual premium, as my form said April was the renewal date.....the girl kept stating I was on a monthly policy as I paid monthly, I asked to speak to her supervisor her said this.... I paid monthly therefore I was on a monthly policy, if I paid yearly I wo ...- Read reppo28's review (137 words)

We insured two greyhounds with Paws Pet Insurance, and had to make many demands on Paws.We never had any problem. The contact at the end of the phone Actually knew what we were talking about, made immediate decisions, and genuinely seemed concerned. I would recommend Paws, and am just about to insure my latest greyhound with them. They may be a bit more expensive, but a pet isn't a car!- Read alexplide's review (87 words)

I have been a customer of Paws Pet insurance since 1996 and their premiums went up massively. I researched other companies with the exact same policy and got a much cheaper quote (bearing in mind I have 2 cats) when I contacted them they couldn't match the price I found, even after I was a customer for 12 years.- Read Guest's review (56 words)

I have been with Paws Pet Insurance for many years and although they have been slow in posting out cheques occasionally, on the whole I have been happy with them. I now find that my cat has reached 10 years of age and his policy has doubled in cost!
Other companies advise that they do not do this and their increases are inflation based only, not age based. My advice would be to shop around and check this fact with them before renewing your policy.- Read alison9267's review (125 words)
