I regularly order from The Book People because of their excellent prices and free delivery on orders over £25.I never had cause to contact their customer service department until today following the delivery of a book obviously damaged in transit. They apologised, immediately sent out another copy and arranged for collection of the damaged book, all done in a cheerful efficient manner by the gentlemen at the other end of phone. Friend purchased books to be delivered to my address. I never signed up for an account with them and yet they sold my contact details to a marketing company. I traced it back to them eventually after receiving lots of junk in the post. At first, twice they denied selling my contact details, it was only when I got email proof from the marketing company that they admitted it. No apology whatsoever. Pretty shameless, really. I ordered books as a Xmas present for my daughter on 8 December. Items had not Been delivered by 20 and I had Been tracking order all week and they still said on van waiting to be delivered. Then on the 21st the courier tracking information was changed to state that the items had Been delivered to me on the 14th. Ordered 4 books on 09/07/12 got e-mail that they had been dispatched on 18/07 NINE DAYS AFTER ORDERING. According to `customer services` It was displayed on the web site that there was a 9=10 day wait for dispatch. WHERE? Then was informed when I phoned up that it would take another 5-6 days to deliver,and I am paying a delivery charge for this service!!Apparently they don`t deliver at week-ends. Ordered two sets of Julia Donaldson books to use as party bag fillers for my daughter's party. The order was placed with plenty of time and was made on a Thursday evening. Ordered a book on a Sunday evening, book was only despatched Wednesday. Couriers tracking system was down so unble to track book. By the next Monday still no sign of the book. Used the couriers tracking system which said the book was in Glasgow, I live in Bristol. Phoned the book people who said book was no longer im Glasgow but was 'missing'. The email I received was not clear, I got no explanation as to why I didn't get the book. I got the same explanation from Customer Services when I phoned them. Avoid this company, they're unreliable. I've used The Book People a number of times - they have some really good deals but their choice of courier lets them down... Yodel (formerly Home Delivery Network) are not too fussy about where they leave packages if you're not in. I ordered The Hunger Games set for £4.99 including delivery (free via a coupon). After it was dispatched, I was sent a tracking number for use with the courier ; HDNL. Anyone who has used this courier before will know that they are lying, lazy, scumbags who will do anything to avoid doing their job of delivering packages. Still waiting for my order. For several days, tracking my order through their web-site, it simply said 'order received'. There doesn't seem to be any impetus to actually pick the stock or deliver it. After chasing them up, I was assured my order would be here today - their web-site actually did eventually reflect that my order had been shipped. I always look here for my books first as pricing is always low. The only problem is that the selection is not as big as other sellers and some books are withdrawn early. For example I was eyeing up a book for Xmas, months beforehand. But when it came to buying in December, it was not stocked anymore. I ended up buying on Amazon as they always have the titles available. Having said that they are well pricednd offer good value efficient delivery. Would recommend a look. (read more)

This company is terrible. I ordered a set of books from them because they were the cheapest on the internet. The books arrived over a week late and were rattling around in a very large very damaged box. The box set looked terrible so i sent it back. They delivered another set within a week and it was exactly the same. I am now waiting for them to come and pick up the second set and have been told it will take two weeks to get my money back. The only huge disappointment is that there are illustrations missing and perhaps colour plates, some of which are referred to by the author. For example, the drawing of the old Houses of Parliament is not shown - this would have made the story much clearer. This reflects my own experience very well. The first three orders I placed went smoothly. The fourth had to be cancelled, because it "got stuck" in the Book People's delivery system. A replacement order arrived the very next day (despite customer services insisting that the previous order wouldn't move until at least the next day). Our son desperately wanted a set of books, and granny gave him some money, so we allowed him to order them from The Book People, as they had the best value deal. Order placed 20/April 2011, with "delivery guaranteed within 48 hours". 27/April 2011, and still no books. Customer services have no idea where the order is, and don't seem too concerned (except for a mumbled comment from them about the order being cancelled. When I challenged that, "No, sorry, my mistake, this order hasn't been cancelled". The carrier has it sitting in their warehouse since 23 April, and no idea why it hasn't been despatched.. "Should have been sent out on Saturday". In short, the service is great when it works, appalling when it doesn't.

Hello i first astarted to use the book people when a rep brought books into my work.
This is a great way to sell boks as it gives you a lengthy time usually a week to look over the books so you can decide if you want them before the rep will come back take the order and leave the books the same day.
Their is usually a great selection at huge discounts to the recomended rrp.
i have ordered them for chrismas and birthday presents for many years using the rep service.
