Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's new comedy, Extras, always had a lot to live up to following The Office and I, for one, feel that they've done themselves proud. Although the subject is not as universal as a comedy about a bad boss -something everyone has probably experienced - the fact that they've managed to maintain that level of entertaining banter between charaters and cringeworthy situations and they've managed to convince both British Z-list celebs and Hollywood A-list actors to mock themselves on TV is certainly a worthy achievement.
The premise is Andy (Gervais) has quit his job to become an actor, but his useless agent (played by Merchant) only ever gets him parts as an extra, alongside his female friend, who is not the brightest bulb on the block. As a result, Andy finds himself begging people for just one line.
So far, we've been treated to Ben Stiller acting arrogant, Ross Kemp crying, Vinnie Jones being a tough guy and Kate Winslet talking dirty (it was one of the funniest things on TV this year).
It's definitely shaping up well and I can't wait to see the last 3 episodes and hope for a second series soon!
