What is this new devilry?
On the principle that perfection may not be improved upon, I bought a packet of these new fangled offerings this morning, with little expectation of excitement.
Why put vanilla in these things? All it does is cut down on the jammie taste, which is why we buy these things. The biscuit has a strong taste which a weak vanilla filling is not able to rise above. There is so little jam, that the whole thing tastes of the dry biscuit.
Now, had they put some real vanilla flavouring in, that may have worked. For most of my life, I assumed vanilla was a tasteless substance based upon childhood vanilla ice-cream and custard experiences. However, trying a vanilla crown in the bakery the other day, I realised how wrong I had been! Deceived by pale imitations, I had overlooked a real king of flavours. Sadly these biscuits use the tastless variety of vanilla.
Yuk.
