“great value for money”

Written on: 22/09/2011 by biffer (1 review written)

I part exed my passat 1.8 20v turbo for a 05 octavis vrs. Excellent value for money, reliable, quick. very suprizing for a skoda. Against the passat its alot quicker (however has same but tuned up VAG engine), better interior however passat seems more solid. Pros of the car is defently the performance reliability and cost. Sound system has a 6 cd changer but power and speakers are weak, would recommend to replace at least the speakers. Was going to buy a Golf gti (basically same car as vrs) but… Read Full Review

I've owned my mk1 octavia vrs for around two years now, and absolutely love it! It's a proper performance car yet has understated looks and can be bought quite cheaply. The 1.8T engine has plenty of pull, and will hit around 70mph in second gear, which can put a nice big grin on even the sternest of faces! (and a decidedly concerned look on the face of the BMW 3-series driver shrinking in your rear-view mirror!) The interior of the octy is fairly well equipped with half-leather sports seats… Read Full Review

If you have a healthy budget, then buy the best performance value you can - a Subaru Impreza STi 330S!!

Well I have a 2005 Vrs which has covered 75,000 Kilometres. The first thing that went wrong were the headlights so the dealer replaced them no charge, Second the engine covers fell off after a few weeks - dealer said no charge then sent a bill for two hundred euro to fix. Then the suspension roller bearing broke, then the windows interior light sunroof stopped working, also had a new window runner fitted. And last but not least I was driving on the motorway, the oil pressure light came on so… Read Full Review

Having nearly 3 years of owning the Octavia vRS and having no problems I recently had a engine management system warning light come on. Having had the Skoda garage look at the fault they assured me it was safe to drive while I waited for the cooling system sensor to arrive. However 7 days later the temp gauge went into the red and warning lights and alarms went into operation causing me to call on the services of the AA to recover it to the garage after failure of the water pump and resulting… Read Full Review

I have a 2001 vrs, had the same problem a few times, (temperature sensor failed) apparently it's a common problem. It's usually cheap to fix, but I would never drive the car far when the sensor's faulty, that sensor is what causes the cooling fan to kick in, but if it's not working then obviously the fan won't start up and your engine could easily overheat! Anyway, it seems the octy vrs has a few common problems (as most cars do...), and even though I've just had to fork out for a replacement gearbox (an 'uncommon' problem!) I still love the car! It's properly rapid, yet comfortable and with quite understated looks. There's a reason why several police forces use them as unmarked patrol cars...

You dont tend to think of Skoda when you think performance car, but let me tell you about the 2006 model Octavia 2.0i Turbo VRS. 0-62 in 7.3secs and 149mph top speed, all wrapped up in a stylish value for money package. Sitting on its 18" alloys and with the most tasty suede interior, this car just hoofs its competitors in to touch. A 150mph family saloon for under £18,000, with 5 seats, a huge boot, amazing handling, superb build quality and an engine that lets you drive it comfortably in… Read Full Review

Written on: 22/07/2005 by planemaker2002 (3 reviews written)

I am more than satisfied with my Skoda Octavia vRS estate which I rate as the best car I have owned in over thirty years. The combination of performance, load - lugging ability and value for money is unbeatable. Acceleration and road holding are exhilarating and at times a conscious effort has to be made to keep the car's exuberance and enthusiasm in check. Fuel economy is reasonable but obviously depends on driving style. The pale grey carpets and seat panels are pretty impractical, even for… Read Full Review
