We booked the 'Alaska Hike' with Exodus, hoping to undertake a hiking holiday, camping in the wilderness, seeing the natural sights of Alaska with an experienced guide. Instead we spent the majority of our time travelling on buses (hiking for only 3 out of 15 days), camping on the sides of roads, beside car parks and in RV parks, had a guide that had never led the trip before and was rude and had a Guide that continually pushed us to take excursions for which he/his firm would receive commissions (to the extent that we were not told about many other options). The team leader had never led the trip before (and had only ever been on it once before). He was rude, unhelpful, unknowledgeable and incompetent.
The following are a list of items we have complained to Exodus about; i) the lack of hiking opportunities, even when indicated as available on the itinerary; ii) the lack of alternative hikes and pursuits, even when indicated as available on the itinerary (only 3 days out of a 15 day tour were spent hiking); iii) the lack of helpfulness of the Guide in addressing requests for hikes (as members of the group became unhappy about the provision of hiking); iv) the Guide's lack of experience leading the trip (this was his first time leading this trip and he had only accompanied another guide once before); v) the Guide's forcefulness in pushing clients into undertaking paid excursions for which he/his firm received commissions, whilst offering little or no alternative; vi) the Guide's insistence on accompanying guests on activities, even when these activities were guided by a third party (although it should be noted he was only interested in accompanying guests on the most interesting activities, such a sightseeing flights, ice climbing etc.); vii) The amount of time spent travelling, exceeding the advertised bus times for the same journeys by a considerable margin. This was due to the Guides insistence that we stopped off frequently, even when no one had any interest in getting off.; viii) the general rudeness of the Guide; ix) the Guides insistence on keeping the group together when we would have preferred to spend time in smaller groups; x) the extremely poor camping facilities (mainly RV parks and town center locations i.e. not in any way an experience of the wilderness).; xi) the lack of exposure to the wilderness of Alaska.

I recently went on the Moonstone Trek in Peru with exodus. The trek itself was good. However, the subsequent trip to Lake Tititcaca and the home stay on an island required a lot of travel for very little reward - in fact two and a half days of travel, including five hours of waiting at an airport for a one hour internal flight as apparently there was no attraction or even restaurant in the area. In addition I found that the tour of Machu Picchu was very weak and failed to put anything into co ...

Enjoyed family holiday tour to Tunisia, Desert Explorer, with husband and 11 year old son. Enjoyed the varied itinerary, accommodation was varied but adequate. Guide was fantastic.

I recently took the Exodus Sahara Desert Trek tour, travelling from Djerba to Ksar Ghilane. The group was mostly female, made up of couples and solo travellers. The ages ranged from late twenties to retirement age, with most people in their Forties.
We had an excellent local guide who spoke very good English and was an expert in Ornithology, identifying desert birds by their footprints and calls, with the occasional sighting.
Overall a good trip, though we had damp beds in the hotel on our f ...

We went on the Hidden Japan trip with Exodus Travel (1st time the trip ran) which was very well planned, and it covered everything we wanted to do and see.
The guides, both the Exodus travel guide and the local guide, were very knowledgeable and helpful.
We had a wonderful trip, and we are planning our next trip with Exodus already.

Exodus is a company with over 30 years experience in providing small group holidays and the range of holidays to choose from is immense. There are trips to over 90 countries, spanning every continent, including Antarctica, and the duration of trips can be from less than a week to several months. In the last few years i have booked two Exodus trips, one to Costa Rica and one to Thailand and both were for just over two weeks.

We did the Italian Dolomites trek and it was exactly as described in the brochure, except the scenery was more spectacular.
Exodus Travel is not a 'high end' tour company but they do deliver what they promise, and there is no extra charge for singles.

Rather than use Exodus Travel look somewhere else as you more likely than not to be disappointed.

We joined an Exodus group trip to Peru. Despite repeated UK assurances, a fly-over the Nazca Lines could be booked in Peru, this turned out to not be the case.
After 3 nights expedition camping, an extra night was spent in a muddy camp site with no hot water, and we had to walk past adequate hotels in the local town to get there!
For our extension to Lake Titicaca, Kontiki Travel took over. Noone told us Exodus sub-contract to other tour operators. We would have sat in the average hotel ...
