“5:25h delay: no compensation”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/12/2013

Due to a techical problem our flight from Colombo to Rome is delayed from 01:20 until 06:45. They would not book us a hotel cause the delay is less than 5 and a half hours. 5 minutes short. No other form of compensation. Very disappointed.

“take a snack!!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/03/2013

Night flight to Colombo was uneventful - staff smiley and helpful. The return flight was awful - staff unhelpful and surly. When my husband asked for a cup of tea after 6 hours in the air it was an effort for them to provide one. The food offered was awful - lamb burger with fish finger with pizza!! I cannot imagine who thought that concoction up!! I would strongly suggest you take food as the options are very limited and on a long haul flight not enough!!

Seriously.. How can you start "night flight to Colombo was uneventful" surely when flying that's a good thing!! The food is great, some of the best I've had on any flight and that includes Singapore airlines. Lamb burger, fish finger and pizza, think that might have been the kids option!

“Baggage soaked and 11 journey with a screaming child”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 30/08/2012

I travelled back from Sri Lanka yesterday. My baggage arrived absolutely soaking wet. So wet that i could wring the clothes out. Books were soaked through. I have treavelled in South eat Asia for over 22 years and no other airline has managed to achieve this. One would think that they could cover the bags as they move them across the runway Also one child through an 11 hour tantrum. The parents did nothing to quieten the child. In fact the mother was loud too. The stewardesses did nothing to help the child. I was told the plane was fully booked and there were no seats I could move to. Bizarre as I could see many empty seats. Screens were too almost too small to see and entertinment program was not worth watching. Food mediocre & little of it. I won't fly with them again.

“Jeddah Airport Check-In Counter the Worst Ever”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/07/2012

The Check In Counter is horrible, The so called Station Manager is so lazy, he does not care about the long queue, He just stands behind one of the three counters and stares at the people around the airport, although the check-in officers are busy, he does not even care to help them sort out issues, In fact when my turn came to check in (After 2 hours), he came to me and asked me if I could take a parcel for him to colombo,I bluntly refused as I dont know him, he then told the check-in officer to have his tea and come back, (another 30 mts wasted) he just walked to another passenger in the queue, and gave him the parcel. I do not understand why Sri Lankan Airlines employ such indecent people like this manager, as they not only tarnish the image of Sri Lankan airlines but of our island nation as well.

I definitely agree with you, He is also in the habit of collecting cash for excess luggage direct from the passenger, In fact he has a decoy working along with him, This guy checks the weight of the luggage of the passengers, if it exceeds 40 kg, he calls the passenger on to a side and tells him to pay him at Sr 30/ per kg or else the official rate is Sr 65/ , Once the deal is done he brings a luggage sticker for the extra luggage, and passes it thro the check-in counter, All this is done in the presence of the station manager, this is the reason he keeps staring at the passengers to see if he could make a quick buck.

“surbooking”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 05/08/2011

Warning Sri Lanka Air Lines systematic practice of overbooking (first come go, and the last remaining), we lost and € 3,000 (€ 2,000 for airfare and expenses of € 1000) A recording, s n 'have never wanted us to certificate of overbooking. When we called the phone sri lanka (they do not get the customers), we were offered another flight the next day with more than € 300 per person, or another flight three days later, but always overbooked, but not safe to leave, and after two days of negotiations, they never wanted to pay us back, stating they had not presented for registration. They are lied several times and in bad faith. If your flight goes well, you will have no problem in case of overbooking, delay, or cancellation, the problems will start, it's a small company with limited resources, and they do not want to spend a penny. As a precaution prefer larger companies. View blog: http://surbookings.blogspot.com/p/traduction-in-english.html

“My wife, my son and myself flew Sri Lankan Airlines...”

★★★☆☆

written by Aaron11 on 25/04/2006

My wife, my son and myself flew Sri Lankan Airlines from London Heathrow to Colombo recently - April 2006.
The check-in was fine; no problems and very helpful.
The flight was delayed for over 1 hour and we were informed after boarding had supposed to start??

The flight to Colombo was overnight, and I would not recommend this to anyone. We took off at 11.30 GMT. We were then treated to the usual drink and snack etc. Then they provided a dinner, and by the time the lights were put out, the time was 2.30 GMT, which is a little late to catch some sleep. The seats are awful! We have flown most of the Atlantic Carriers - Malaysian Airlines, Emirates and Qantas etc., but this is the worst seating I have ever had.

Flight arrived late, however luggage was very fast.

Return journey was a daytime flight, which was slightly better, but the seating is bad. In-flight entertainment is getting old, and some sets are not working so beware.

Staff seem to vary between the two extremes. They are either very friendly or quite arrogant. I agree it must be a difficult job, but there are no commendations here.

Generally, they are a reasonable airline, but Emirates have nothing to worry about.

Forager's Response to Aaron11's Review

Written on: 26/11/2008

Flew from Colombo to London (Heathrow)in November 2008 - a fairly awful experience. Seats very uncomfortable. Headphones supplied (four sets) didn't work. Used my own headphones but most of the films were faulty. One visit by drinks trolley. Only water available for the meals (wine had run out!). The list goes on...
<br/>Worst of all the airline hasn't even responded to my complaint yet.

If you mean for duty free fling from UK I would say yes. I didn't have to pay for anything on the flight. Food and drink was free. All the airlines take cards too so it shouldn't be a problem.
