“Worst customer service!! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SophieBrown425 on 01/01/2024

Flight delayed for 3 hours was advised to us in the morning already When in flight they announced they are waiting for the pilot to arrive. From morning + 3 hours delay no one thought of this??? Delayed another 1.5h In flight my daughter had to use washroom and all were full in economy. I asked the steward can I use the business class toilet just for my daughter as she cannot hold it. They said NO. Inhumane staff who don't understand the emergency of a child. My wife wanted water and pushed the call button.. All stewards just walked by without stopping to ask us what we need.. Finally I had to go myself. After all these delays no pilot or steward apologize to any passengers on board for the delay at all. It was the first day of the year flying with Sri Lankan airlines.. Felt like the worse day in my flying experience. Do not use this airline if you have another option...

“Minimum standards of Airworthy. Flights over 18 years old.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Camren424 on 09/03/2018

Maintain, Minimum Standards of Airworthy. All Leased Flights over 18 years old. Massively Corrupt politically, administratively and operationally and running on loss of US millions for years.Suppliers, contractors, some staff are politically influenced. So, do not expect quality on end product you receive, as all are subject to shared commission and therefore excessive profit for very poor quality product/supply or service that they are providing. Poor inflight service including food/beverage and pathetic terminal service in base Airport Colombo. Visit the lost baggage storage Room and then write a review after. You will be surprised when you see the way they have stored bags. Smell in the room is intolerant. I challenge any CEO, past or present never been to this room for an inspection. Possible he does not even know where it is. As a organised crime (known to the police and Airport staff) passenger bags are stolen in baggage carousel. You can see nothing much on an investigation from that lowest end poor quality Camera installed near the baggage carousel. I heard this from OIC Katunayake police station, when I went to report the lost of my baggage. The police said they have prepared 5-6 reports about this repeating complaints to the relevant authorities. After great efforts Airport Authority decided to upgrade Security and their Camera system while ago. With this newly installed High end technology Camera system did not last long because this bunch of disgusting corrupt Customs officers and their Union protest against it. Why..? They can get caught with their movements, illegal activities and Deals with evidence caught in camera. The Government failed to improve public Security in the terminal of an international airport in front of the pressure of White Uniform. The result you can verify today, in Colombo Airport you will see new high tech. Camera system removed after installed and ancient technology camera or two is there just to say Security Cameras being used in Colombo Airport. But they are useless. Best to avoid dangers.Do not ever fly with Sri Lankan Airline, you are asking for trouble for negligible saving or benefit.

“I was charged multiple times for the same ticket. I...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KyleeCrawford370 on 03/12/2017

I was charged multiple times for the same ticket. I have had to check my credit card several times to dispute the charges. I am inclined to dispute all of them and fly with someone else instead since I have not yet traveled with them and I only anticipate further problems.

“Baggage excess. Extremely rude ground staff”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Baxter435 on 29/01/2017

I was charged 600 USD for being 22 kg over in Business class , so more than an economy ticket. In addition when forced to make the scandalous payment , the ground staff proceeded to laugh at us . Never use this airline they are only interested in shamming their clients. When flying business class your bags will always come off last and you are never given priority . Possibly the worst experience I have had in 40 years of travelling .

“Standard flight”

★★★★☆

written by faberquinque on 29/09/2016

Flights have always been on time both outgoing and incoming. Staff provide excellent service, are polite and very attentive. Meal quality ranges from satisfactory to good. Being over 6 ft. tall I sometimes find seat space a little restrictive dependant upon seat number.

“Great airline!”

★★★★☆

written by DestineyNeville on 03/04/2015

We just recently flew woth Sri Lankan airlines from Maldives to Colombo and were quite impressed. After reading negative remarks, we expected the worst from the airline, and instead, we were pleasantly surprized with the great service and smooth flight. Very few airlines will serve you a hot tasty meal with beverage for a flight lasting barely an hour and a half, and Sri Lankan airlines exceeded our expectations. The seat comfort and the TV console were just right, and the courtesy along with it. We are talking Economy Class and it was more than comfortable. We would definitely recommend this airline!

“Never Again Sri Lankan Airlines”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ArielBauer304 on 17/12/2014

A kind advice to all frequent flyers! Please do not choose Sri Lankan Airlines even if there is a shortage of tickets unless or otherwise you worry about some additional ticket fair, since their flight operations are miserable now a days. You knew it or not, Sri Lankan airlines is undergoing bankruptcy and their flights are old which are required frequent repairs. Moreover the behavior of staff is not acceptable and not professional in complying international aviation standards in treating the passengers. - A bad experience faced by 100s of passengers in Sri Lankan Airlines from Doha to Colombo flight scheduled on 11.12.2014 but eventually a failed mission.

“Horrible Never Again!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ChamindaRaj on 17/07/2014

One of the worst ever!!! On 1st of July I travelled from Colombo to Loas via Bangkok. When checking in at the Airport in Colombo I was informed that they could only check my baggage through to Bangkok and I would be required to collect my baggage and recheck it through to Laos. This requires me to go through immigration pick my bag up, come back through immigration and check the bag in as if it was a new flight. BUT I could not do this as I have no visa to enter Thailand. I explained this but they insisted that they have no choice. Since I was carrying only 12kg as luggage and no hand luggage, I asked him to allow me to carry my bag in the cabin which for most airlines would not be a problem especially considering I was the highest tier in the OneWorld frequent flier program and the flight was nearly empty. In response he said he can allow me to take a maximum of 10kg and that I would need to dump 2kg worth of baggage. So I had three options 1. not fly 2. lose my baggage in Bangkok 3. throw away 2kg worth of my belongings I spoke to the shift manager who simply did not have the initiative to find a solution to the problem. He did not offer a single solution, he was not apologetic and showed no concern or intelligence. I fly very frequently for work. I have travelled in remote parts of Africa on small regional airlines and I have never faced this problem before. Most of all I have never dealt with such incompetent staff who simply have no desire to solve a problem. Because of the frequent delays and aging aircrafts I usually don't but this time I decided to travel on Sri Lankan as I fly Oneworld, Never again though!

“only time keeping is the only good thing.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by America326 on 04/05/2014

Me and my husband were travelling from London to Colombo and again Colombo to London within 2 weeks. The standard of this airline has gone down terribly. The service was very poor. Food was horrible. Why can't they serve good Sri Lankan food? Specially the pasta served was not tasty at all, and we have to abandon the meals. No choice of meals given though mentioned in the menu card. The entertainment system was interrupted all the time, and very poor service. Our next seat passenger didn't have the connection even and the screen was blank. The amount of water or drinks served was minimum for a 11 hour flight. We being doctors felt that we should not be taking our health at risk by flying in such an air line. Cabin crew didn't show attention equally to all passengers.

“Srilanakan airlines ul504 and 503 on 26/6/13 - 3/8/13”

★★★☆☆

written by Marilynw167 on 26/04/2014

I went on Srilanakan airlines with my family last year to Colombo - cmb for a 5 week holiday and believe me it was not the airline I would expect it to be!!! Flt 504 from lhr - cmb could've been the worst trap I have ever been in!!!! The seats felt awkward, not much leg room, tangledwires, mouldy edges, fairly loose arm rests and etc. Seemed to appear on that aircraft. The only good thing was the help of the cabin crew, the entertainment system and the view!!! Believe me I have never been in such a death trap!!!??? Could you try and improve some off the cons by the next 2 years? Because I will be fliying again with srilankan next time.? On 3/8/13 the return flt 503 was 60% better than the leaving flight!!!! I would like to see a fair improvement by 2015? That means cost as well??? Other than that the flight was good... Yours- srilankan airlines

“Pathetic Customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 09/01/2014

Flown on Dec 15 from Singapore to Colombo. had extra weight so emailed their customer service on Dec 12 (also mentioning that i have to fly on Dec 15) to ask how much extra i can carry being silver member. No response despite two more reminders. No one to answer their 24 hour call center also. I flown off on Dec 15. To my surprise they responded on Dec 18 with the greeting "HAVE A SAFE FLIGHT" (which i already did three days ago). Never ever fly!!

“SRI LANKAN AIRLINE FLIGHT UL503 1ST JAN 2014”

★☆☆☆☆

written by slybeth4 on 02/01/2014

HEAD-LINE NEWS 1/1/2014 extracted from Sri Lanka news It is reported that an air craft owned by Sri Lankan Air Lines UL 53 which left Katunayake for London at 2.30 pm landed at 3.00 pm as a bird had collided on it. The bird has hit on the rear of the craft out of the Sri Lankan boundaries. Pilot ordered passengers to wear oxygen equipment. More than 250 passengers were on board. WE then boarded this SAME flight UL503 at 2.15pm and they were still fixing the screen, but the decision to fly was made as the screen was fixed and cured !!!. Less than 1 hour into the air at 35,000 feet the screen shattered and the plane had to descend from 35,000 ft to 10,000 ft. On observation the screen was completely shattered. This could have been a catastrophic failure and killed all passengers if the pressure dropped within the cabin !!! Two incidents in 1 day !!!! NO THIS CANNOT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL NEVER EVER FLY with this company again even if it was free ! There is serious safety issues here and Sri Lankan airline & its CEO needs to VERY SERIOUSLY & URGENTLY REVIEW its safety aspects before placing peoples life's at risk !!!!! Maybe he can write to me an explain what really happened, as I have my suspicions !!!!!!!  I was so concerned that I refused to travel back with them and I am writing this page on 2/1/2014 from a world class airline (Singapore).

Anegonburuwa's Response to slybeth4's Review

Written on: 12/01/2014

not entirely accurate in fact a blatant lie about the wind screen shattering, it didnt shatter at all there was a crack!!
that being said the air pressure did drop in the cabin , and the passengers were quite scared , i know this from a close mate who was in the cabin ,
i have traveled this airline many times & would say there are delays 60% of the time
but @ slybeth4 please don't make up blatant lies like shattering wind screens

Emmabl's reply to Anegonburuwa's Comment

Written on: 22/02/2017

I suggest you don't make a comment if you weren't on the plane. I was on the plane and slybeth4's review is correct. It was the worst flight I have every been on. The window did shatter and I have proof as I took a picture of it on my ipad. So did a lot of other people and the picture appeared in the Sun Newspaper in England.
I have written to Sri Lankan Airlines several times about compensation and have still not heard back from them. I am now taking legal advice.

“5:25h delay: no compensation”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 18/12/2013

Due to a techical problem our flight from Colombo to Rome is delayed from 01:20 until 06:45. They would not book us a hotel cause the delay is less than 5 and a half hours. 5 minutes short. No other form of compensation. Very disappointed.

“Avoid this airline ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jorockwood on 08/10/2013

I travelled from Colombo to London as a business class passenger. The airline told me that they had booked me a driver as part of the service. I arrived at Heathrow to find no driver there. After spending an hour trying to speak to Sri Lankan airlines I was told to get a taxi and claim the fare. I duly did this, it was by this time late and as a women travelling alone had to use a airport registered cab which cost me £200. I was assured that I would be compensated and despite being told a week ago that the money would be in my bank account I am still waiting. After another hour on the phone to sri Lankan airlines they are now stating that they do not know if I am entitled to compensation. I will persevere to be recompensed but advise travellers to avoid this airline. I am a regular traveller and this is the worst service I have ever received. This airline do not seem to care about their passengers at all.

“Worst by far”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 01/10/2013

By far the worst I have flown. Business SIN-CMB-LHR. I cannot recommend this airline to anyone, avoid it like the plague. Their delays have meant I am out of pocket and it would have cost me less to fly a 5 star airline Business class. All I have to say to you Sri Lankan Airlines is shame on you.

“4 hours delay - without any information”

★★★☆☆

written by udo-frequent-flier on 28/09/2013

Our flight back from Colombo to Frankfurt got delayed in total by 4 hours. Every hour the display on the screen showed a departure time of +1h. There was no announcement, no water, no food no information on the reason of the delay while we were waiting from 00.25am to 04:40am. The food was great and the choice of movies in the entertainment system was quite good. But the touch-screen of my media-system died - so my wife and myself had to use her media-system.

Me and my Wife went on our honeymoon to Sri Lanka flying there was pleasant and we were ahppy. However on he way back form Colombo to London we had what i descibe as a terrbile discusting old plane. My seat was completley broken, the old tv screens on the plane were broken always kept cutting out. I am not a great flyer and to be on this flight for 11 hours and having asked to move to any of the 6 seats avilable but being told no really upset me. Amazing honeymoon in Sri Lanka and the Maldives but the flight home with Sri Lankan Airlines was very dissapointing.

If you mean for duty free fling from UK I would say yes. I didn't have to pay for anything on the flight. Food and drink was free. All the airlines take cards too so it shouldn't be a problem.
