I purchased a Tec Lite large Tripp suitcase from Debenhams in 2010 and paid £138 for it which was more than i've ever paid for a suitcase but was assured that, whilst it was lite, it was amazingly tough and would survive the renowned rough handling by airlines. i have used it twice and, on the second trip it came off the airline carousel damaged. So much for Tripps resilience claims. I travel frequently each year and have never had a case damaged in this way. The manager of the Tripp outlet... (read more)

The case has had 3 journeys in the last 9 months and has started to show signs of wear. Top handle has started to come away. Back botton rubber parted from back of case. Piping round case has started to fray. When you pick the case up by the side handle it bows - even with a strap around it. Bearing in mind most flight journeys are 20kgs so this was not over burdened, but it does seem to be able to put lots of things in it. It is going back to the Store for refund (read more)

I had two Tripp Graphite lite large 4 wheel suitcases,in less than 2 years time, and I had same problems with both.On first look this particular one seems sturdy, and four wheels make it really easy to roll. I bought a large hard case examined it and thought it was a steal baring the price at £80 unlike Samsonite or Antler which goes into the £200+ Took it on my first flight and noticed the quality deteriorated quickly when I opened it up at the hotel. See 5 year guarantee. If purchased within the last 5 years (irrespective of receipt or not) you will be entitled to an exchange (like for like, if they no longer stock your item.) This extends to manufacturing faults, which the handle not rising falls within. Take it back to your nearest Debenhams with a Tripp Section and they will exchange it for you.

One of the 4 wheels on my Tripp 4wheel case has jammed. Brought it back to Debenhams. Unless it is under guarantee, in which case it will be replaced, there are no repairs available. Brought it to major luggage sale/repair centre in Dublin city (Adamsons) who say that Tripp will not release any spare parts so they cannot repair. I replaced my ten year old Samsonite with a Tripp fabric suitcase mainly because it was less heavy. I bought the latter in Debenhams. I used it for the first time last week on a shorttrip to New York. As I started to unpack, I realised the clothes inside were dirty- mainly along the folds. Hence in my first few hours after arrival, I had to hand wash some Tshirts so they would be dry for the next day. Dresses required to be sent away for cleaning, and in other cases I avoided wearing the... (read more)

Before our recent holiday we decided to invest in new lugguage as our 10 year old suitcases were looking a little tired. We bought Tripp cases from Debenhams, big mistake. Not fit for purpose. Collected our lugguage on arrival at holiday airport, the whole wheel and wheel unit was missing. When you look closely it was only held in by a bit of plastic and 2 screws. I understand your annoyance but surely it should be directed at the airport handling staff who have caused the damage.
I purchased a Carlton suitcase which cost over £80.00 in November 2011. In January 2012 I took the case on a flight to Malaga, on arrivel at my hotel I found a large split in the underside of the case between the built in wheels. This was obviously caused by poor handling procedures but I was unable to claim as I had left the airport without reporting something I did not know had happened. The 5 year unconditional warranty was useless as it did not cover mishandling, ('Unconditional'???). This is the third case I have had destroyed by airport abuse and it is about time something was done about it by the airport authorities.

I bought it as it is nice and light and looks good. However, on the third or fourth use the extending handle broke at the base. The metal had simply sheared right through, not a very useful property for a wheely bag. I returned it to Tripp in Debenhams in Harrow and had to pay an extra £6 to get it replaced with one that is exactly the same. I am not very convinved that the same won't happen again as the Tripp shop assistant repeatedly told me that "all my other customers" who had brought... (read more)

I have noticed that Tripp do state on he guarantee that they do not cover handler damage. Why should they? Its the airlines that throw your cases about. Tripp make great cases and mine has lasted great. Look around at what the other shops are coming out with for that price and you won't find better. If you want better quality then you will need to pay the price for Samsonite or Antler, however some of these don't hold up to handler damage either. Doesn't matter if its one or ten trips it depends who is loading up your plane.

I am sorry Angelfraz but I really do not understand the logic to your comment. You are perfectly right and correct,it is the airport handlers who tend to be rough with suitcases, but surely as people buy a suitcase to go on holiday with, and most times involving a flight, then Tripp need to seriously come up with a better design for its products. You should certainly get more use from a suitcase over several holidays and flights, and not,as is happening in most of the complaints just one journey..These cases may look colourful and a 5 year guarantee seems impressive but these cases are not fit for purpose and about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
Written on: 24/11/2012
I really am at a loss as to the logic in your comment. As you say it is the airlines and baggage handlers who throw the cases about, but surely if you are giving a 5 year guarantee a suitcase should have been designed to withstand more rough handling than they appear to do so.They should certainly be useable for more than one trip which most reviews are indicating is the case.
There is no disputing the fact that Tripp cases look colourful, and a 5 year guarantee is a magnet and should give some piece of mind, but it is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.Someone mentioned trading standards and I think they should look into the matter as they are really not fit for purpose.

I have only travelled twice with this bag and so cannot comment on its durability, however, the ****** thing keeps falling over! The four wheels are impractical for two reasons, firstly it makes the bag really unstable, I was constantly picking it up from its fall, once the bag was heavy the second not so much, so it's not a weight/imbalance issue. Secondly, they are unecessary, two wheels and two 'rests' works far better and reduces the bag's height dimensions also (an important factor if... (read more)

We had a 2 year old case where the wheels jammed and wore flat and, having read this review, with some trepidation sent pictures to Tripp enquiring for spares and they promptly sent a replacement case under warranty without asking for the original receipt and with a minimum of fuss.
