“Great gun for small price”

Written on: 05/04/2013 by gazza3160 (1 review written)

I have been out off touch for all my married life 30 odd years until Aug 2010 when i decided to get back into FT only to find out Rifles have come on so much in this time. Well i bought the BSA Ultra Tactical single shot, single for comps i got it in .177 with a shot count of 35 which compared to others is poor so i looked at getting mine regulated and did so with Darren at XTX Air i now get 67 shots from the small tank, i used this rifle in our CSFTA and came 3rd place c grade. “Fantastic little rifle!!”

Written on: 23/07/2012 by kevroa1969

Just bought an Ultra Multishot .177 Tactical, stuck a silencer on it. To be honest I went into the gunshop looking for a scorpion multishot but it didn't feel as nice up on the aim. This wee rifle sat on my shoulder a treat. It's my first pcp having been out of the loop for three years, I traded in a Weirauch HW90k and a Gamo CF30 and I'm really happy I did. Luckily the gun club has free air so right now there's no need to get my own bottle, but I probably will at some point. It's knocking... (read more)

“BSA Utra”

Written on: 26/06/2012 by Staffy1 (1 review written)

This has got to be the best air gun I've owned so far. Over the last 27 years I have owned Webley springers, BSA, Springers,BSF 54, Originals and Weirauch 80,57,35,95, sharp Innova and so on. The BSA ultra out shoots them all. Ive upped my hunting range to 30 metres from my previous 20 metre range. Would I recommend this yes definitely. PCP have transformed air-gunning. I would happily take out a rabbit at 30 metres with this which I have never before. Reliable, easy to fill, well made and ... (read more)

“Lacks range and power”

Written on: 01/06/2012 by JeffCee (1 review written)

I bought this BSA Ultra gun 14 months ago,I took too much notice of the reviews which said it was a brilliant little gun but from day one it lacked any decent range, I have dispatched many short range (20 yards) pigeons but any distance over 30 yards it’s useless, you can actually see the pellet dropping through the scope. When I’ve been lucky to hit pigeon’s at 30 yards only just for the pellet to bounce off and the bird just fly’s off! I’ve given it a fair chance but fed up so... (read more)

Well I'll be. Never heard that before. I too have an Ultra and my sight is zero'd at approx 40 meters. I can drop a rabbit at that range no worries, as for a woodie, they have no chance.
Think you might have needed it setting up properly because there is no power problem normally.
Never mind, like you said you gave it a fair chance. Good luck with the HW95, sounds nice.

After many years of owning springers, I finally succumbed to the lure of a .22 PCP. Popping down to the gun shop and handling quite a few, the Ultra really stood out. Striking looks, lovely woodwork and deep lustrous blueing (or is that blacking?)It feels great, has perfect balance, and the carbine length can be a real boon. I went for the single-shot version because, for me, a magazine would offer no great advantage, whilst adding an additional complexity.
The Ultra is about as accurate as... (read more)

Had the BSA Ultra tactical .177 Single shot now for a month. Low mounts and a Hawke 3-9 50 scope mounted on low mounts. Scope fitted with the MAP6 retile and zeroed using the free software downloaded from Hawke. Clearance from scope to barrel is under 1mm. Preferred pellet is the Bisley Magnum. Changed silencer.
On a full charge at 232bar I get around 35 shots at full power of 11.77 ft pounds, as the magnum is 10.6 grains. Using RWS Superpoint I get around 10.5 ft pounds at 8.2 grains. The... (read more)

Very good review, thank`s! Fired a friend`s Ultra at our club last night and was impressed and thought I might ask Santa for one!I wasn`t aware of \"no gauge\"or low shots.
Friend said he did think his was underpowered when he first bought it and probably only delivering 10.5/10.75,perhaps changing his ammo.might help. I will tell him of your review.Once again thankyou for a well written appraisal.

Went to buy a second one and the pressure was only 9.6lbs, no good. The shop owner opened new a one and that also was down on power?. Nice little gun but check on a chrono before purchase as they will need to go back to BSA. Low shots per charge will drive you crazy, decided to buy a better second hand multishot instead, my advice save another £100 and buy a multishot with a bigger air reserve. 30 shots is just not good enough. Accuracy is as any £300 - ££450 rifle, shame about the air... (read more)

The BSA Ultra single shot .22 is an impressive Little gun, perfect for me as I'm of shorter build, innovative loading although a multishot converter would be handy! Suprisingly you can load this gun almost silently in about 10 seconds so you dont disturb and targets too much. Silencer looks nice with the gun as its short and stubby with the suppressing power of a larger silencer. Pellet loading may be fiddly for larger fingers as you need to place the pellet in a loading resevoir and press a... (read more)

I purchased mine, a multi, after reading the forum comments
the accuracy is fantastic 15mm groups at 40mtrs.the stopping power at the 30 mtr mark will take down a rabbit with a clean head shot.
My only criticism was the low shot count in .22 but help was at hand and I had a regulator fitted by by a guy on one of the forums.
This effectively increased the shot count from a 232 bar charge to over 90 shots with a flattened power curve,
I would recommend that Air Arms Field 5.52 pellets be used they... (read more)

Ronhow's Comment

Written on: 04/01/2009

There really isn't any other cheaper filling optiion for a PCP other than a stirrup pump or a divers' bottle unless, you area member of a club. Clubs' normally have divers' bottles. The problem, in your case, with the Ultra, is that it's air reservoir is reltatively small and you will only get around 35 shots (177 carbine) and, it is an unregulated rifle. So, you really do need a pump or a bottle of your own. Nevertheless, the Ultra is no worse in this respect than other short, light weight rifles, such as the Air Arms S200. Both are excellent rifles, but I love BSAs and have five including Supersport 22, Hornet 22, SuperTen 22, Hornet 177 and the Ultra single shot 177. I bought the Ultra for my wife to use, as it's light and better balanced for a lady. However, I love the Ultra ... it's a superb carbine. Yes, a Logan, or the new Weihrauch silencer would be a better option, but hey, in the field the rifle really will not sound that loud ... of course it does in doors. The new Weihrauch silencer is the best in the world with the Logan a second, but I've also got the Parker Hale that looks like a carbon fibre and that's excellent also. The Ultra single or multi, is superb value for money ... s/s rifle includes, silencer and mounts at £270 plus a 6 x 40 scope will cost £300, whereas the m/s rifle is being offered as a package with a fixed scope for around £399. The BSA has a beuatifull carved stock. Obviously you have to have a scope as there are no back-up iron sights on a PCP. I got a second hand AA pump some months back for about £70 and, there's always somebody willing to give one away somewhere ... they are hard wok, but not with the Ultra, as you can charge it in about 20 strokes.

iv just bought the ultra multishot 22 the other day and my mate give me a divers bottle for nothing i bought with my gun the fx 3 stage styrup pump yes pricey but it only takes a few seconds to pump up your gun and with the ultra you only get 30 shots ,it is easier with the bottle to charge up but theres a draw back its heavy and bulky i leave mine in the car and allways use the pump . so the answer to your question is yes there is a cheaper way if you get the bottle for free but other than that no as its cheeper to buy the pump and its also more conveniant less hastle and you dont have to drive to your nearest gun shop and pay to fill your bottle up

The pump you been offered is fine. You could use a diver tank but tbh my dad uses a pump to charge his HW100 and hes 65 :0). So a Ultra would be very easy to pump up. Just make sure all the fliters(it should have em) are clean and not damaged. Do not want unwanted particales inside your Rifle :0(
