Food was great cant fault it at all and not too expensive. The decor was very shabby,we had a table on the outdoor balcony and was sat on a cheap and nasty metal table with no table cloth, they didnt even set the table for us.The service was also very amatuerish mainly as they were young inexperenced kids serving and they had the cheek to add 12.5 % service charge to the bill! I would visit Crab and Winkle, Whitstable again as I enjoyed the food but the set up of the restaurant was not what I was expecting.

This Crab and Winkle restaurant clearly lives on the tourist trade. Very few shellfish on the menu, no crab, scallops or lobster despite being in season and calm weather for fishing. Our bill for lunch of two light courses, a bottle of wine and coffee was £75.

We were at the Crab and Winkle last year in the evening time and having not booked they did manage to get us in. Good menu with variety of fish well cooked and presented. Staff pleasant and helpful. Good views of the harbour from the window seats. also has an outside veranda. Restaurant is light and airconditioned. Tables are well spaced apart. We joined the Diner Club online and got a free bottle on wine for doing so. By joining the club you get 10 percent of the fresh fish in the market downst ...

The Crab and Winkle restaurant in Whitstable was a real find for the two of us, who moved from London to Canterbury a year ago. The simple ambience is attractive. It's obviously child-friendly, and above all the food is terrific - superb beer-battered fish and chips, and my fillet of cod in a garlicy sauce with a black pepper and smoked salmon risotto (I know - but it worked!) was great. Organic chicken and fishcakes were voted first-class by the other members of he party. And the chips were gre ...

Whitstable, Seafood, Crab and Winkle - There are some ok dishes at the Crab and Winkle but they are few and far between. The restaurant survives on day tourist trade into the harbour. Some of the platter dishes are an absolute disgrace for a place that clearly seeks to make mileage from it's position above a harbour and the Augustine fish-sellers because they feature deep-frozen and compiled seafood when every other decent restaurant locally serves it fresh.

If you're after decent seafood in ...
