Had my Yamaha XTX 660 for just on 6months now and clocked up 15,000k's and its rarely missed a beat. Only mod is staintune exhaust and had the mixtures richened by yam dealer. I've just returned from a 2000k trip from Adelaide to Melbourne and back via great ocean road and everyone agreed that considering the punishment it had dished up to it it really punched above its weight (which is pretty heavy!!) I'm now looking to upgrade to KTM 690 Duke however due only to its lack of power which,... (read more)

The Yamaha XTX 660 is a brilliant Bike, I have had mine for about 5 months and after two months I set about some improvements. As a standard bike it is ok but the fueling and emisions seem to strangle the engine. My advice and although it costs a few quid, its worth every penny, is to by the Akrapovic Titanium exhaust system and add a BMC race air filter and a Powercommander. All easily fitted at home. This turns the mild mannered XT into a little monster and doubles the fun factor. Go on... (read more)

Being 160 odd kg its a heavy bike in this category. Also having 48hp standard doesnt really say much about its capability. However if someong tells you its not the right combination to have huge amounts of fun on, let them take it for a ride and when your down the pub later on listen and laugh at them when they try and tell you how much fun this bike is... then agree and kindly let them know its their shout. After a 12 hundred mile hike from stoke to John O'Groats and back, the bike did it with ease. It a good, sound all round bike, cheap to insure and to keep on the road. The only reason I would part with it would be for the XTZ 660. (read more)

Real fun bike. every person who likes bikes should have one of those in the garage. Tires sticks to the road perfectly. Power is more then enough to outrun the trafic, suspension and high ground clearance gives you a possibility enjoy even worst roads. high seat alows you to see over all the cars and make quick decisions where and how to go in heavy trafic. Perfect urban bike. no trafic, just pleasure. (read more)

I bought one and I can tell you its the best thing I have bought with my money... ever. its reliable practicle and most of all its a ball to ride. doesnt matter if im riding it to uni or to the motorbikes at phillip island, this bike is a winner. People say the looks are not the best but throw a set of pipes on it like I have and you wont be able to count the amount of positive things people say about it. they look and go alot better in the flesh than on paper. I used to own sports bikes but got fed up with the bad day to day riding position (great for the track, lousy for the A10) but with the Yamaha XTX it's constant fun and so practical..... I love it. (read more)

A fantastic bike, but lets itself down with the dying ignition glitch. It happens at the most unlikely moments, and can be quite dangerous in heavy traffic. I had the recall part replaced, but it still happens. Yamaha, sort it out. I've loved this bike, but am now looking for a bike more reliable.

I've owned a Yamaha XTX660 for 18 month now and it has been nothing but trouble. The bike was initially recalled after having it for a couple of month for a fix on an electronic component. The first problem I had was the bike switching itself off. This happens regardless of revs or driving conditions. The bike would turn itself off up to two times a week. The immobilizer has been replaced hoping that would fix the problem but the bike still turns itself off. I'm waiting for Yamaha to find a... (read more)

The most fun I ever had on a bike. I've never smiled so much on the back of any bike.
I took a test drive on the XTX and sold my Yamaha R1 the next week.
I have taken my XTX on the track. What a pleasure. Had much more fun on the XTX than on the R1.
I was only +-15sec slower on the XTX. Just because of the back strate.
I've taken the XTX up to 180kmph, not bad for a XT. A bit unstable at high speed.
Cheers.
Enjoy the ride.

What after market exhausts do you recommend? Do they help with acceleration and general pickup? Any other recommended performance mods for the Yamaha XTX 660?

Well Ive covered 5000kms on my Yamaha XTX 660 since new and its still fun riding through the mountains to work. A pushed up forward riding position gets you through the corners the quickest. The Pirrelis are sticky but rear one needs replacing. On weekends I like to tour and it gets 200kms/10lts , until res,(5 lts ) I bough the largest wind deflector (2 sizes) from Yamaha and it's great, no more buffeting! It looks ok to,(not to big). The luggage carrier is good, it unlocks and you can carry... (read more)

The Yamaha XTX 660 Super Motard looks cool and the riding positon is just what the doctor ordered if the aches and pains are catching up with you, i'm 40 but when I'm on the xtx I feel 17 again the big single 660 four stroke has loads of usable grunt.
Pot holes grit on bends damp roads dont bother this bike in fact it loves them all, the tyres are so grippy the suspension so good even when the back end slides you still feel in control.
Most super motos are made for the track this one is made...

The Yamaha XTX 660 super moto gets you noticed. It is the big trailbike shape but with little wheels (17inch actually) which is the same as a super sports. The upright riding position is great if your tired of the back neck and other pains you get with the sports bikes its so easy to ride the tires very sticky pirelli dragons inspier you the big single 660 water cooled engine has loads of low down grunt its very usable in towns and back lanes.
Only one negative point about the XTX I bought...

I am disappointed with my yamaha xtx 660. You pay good money on it and yet the performance is disappointing. When I am cruising along and suddenly would rev down from fifth or fourth gear (or vise versa) the engine bugs down. Several times I would have to re-start the engine. The seller said that due to Australian strict rules on noise pollution yamaha had to build exhaust pipes that chokes the power of the engine. To fix this problem I will have to spend another $1600.00 Australian for a new set of exhaust.

Hi pete from australia. I read a comment by enrique about his xtx bogging down and cutting out in 4th and 5th gears. I have had no trouble at all like that. Power has always been strong through out rev range. I use BP premium and make sure you have a good spark plug

Hi My name is Graham, I own a Yamaha XTX660 in Dubai UAE. There are only two in the UAE. Myself and the other owner are facing the surging problem. Yamaha UAE are a joke, and they have no clue.

Anyone have a part number for the updated ECU?

Regarding the stalling thing, check the spark plug - should be NGK CR 7E. As soon as I changed the plug I had no problem with stalling any more.

I also changed the cans to AKAPOVIV - big difference on more low down grunt.

After months of trying to find and fix the problem, replacing everything from the ignition to the wiring harness, Yamaha admitted to not knowing what the problem was and not being able to fix it. The bike was replaced free of charge. I would not have another XTX so the replacement bike is a FZ6s. What a gem of a bike!
