“worst experience ever”

Flight was delayed from Boston 4 hours. Then connecting flight was delayed another 2 hours. Didn't even fly on Sata plane, flight crew were rude & not vert attentive. Food was terrible. Crew ignored you when they walked by you. I paid for first class service. Definitely not first class, what a waste of money. Then we get to Graciosa, no luggage for 2 days, once we got the luggage,one bag was so destroyed, they gave us a hard time to replace it… Read Full Review

“"Pleasure" to fly a SATA plane without fresh air...”

Can't print your boarding pass. The website is useless and stressful. The flight was late for 1 hour. It's OK, I guess..... All other airlines already left.... I guess the Portuguese have "LOSER" written in their genetic code. Yet I have nothing against the actual people. Very friendly and comfortably rude at times, not a problem at all. Must go to the check-in counter even after a huge battlefield fight on their sata.pt website. The inflight service is 2 or 3 star at best, but food was fine… Read Full Review

“THE WORST AIRLINE”

The most stressful airline. Pay more to have a stress free flight: -Can't print your boarding pass. EVER. Always must go to the check-in counter. -Website is useless, doesn't show delays. -At times, randomly, can't check in more than one member of your travel party. Causes unnecessary distress and headache ahead of traveling. -Check-in counters are a TOTAL MESS, overflowing with people. “Indifferent ground staff”

Staff was not rude to me, but indifferent with no empathy what so ever. I suppose this is expected from a monopoly and no one else flies to the Azores. I'm assuming the main role of the ground staff is customer service, but my experience is that SATAs staff can't be bothered to deal with us, it's like they can't engage or acknowledge your presence. “Indifferent, non-communicative staff”

I have flown many airlines but I have never encountered staff as rude, unfriendly and disorganized as SATA airline. Ground crew seemed to lack basic knowledge about how to organize people to board a plane. Planes very old and worn out, no TV screens, tray tables that didn't work at all, meat that was too tough to cut. “Disorganized and indifferent”

Our return flight from Ponta Delgada to Toronto, scheduled for April 24, was cancelled due to a strike. SATA's Ponta Delgada office told us we were booked on the alternative April 26 flight, and gave us 2 nights hotel vouchers - I have the printed Apr 26 flight confirmation. We were flying on from Toronto on separate flights, so had to change those at our own expense. “Never on time”

My trip to the Azores on July 3, 2012 took 3 days to get to azores when the trip was only to take 1 day. Then on my return trip of August 23,2012 the should have only been again 1 day but it took 3 days to return to the USA. The personnal were rude both at the airport and on the phone. “Sata is awful”

Just wanted to warn everyone that SATA is pretty awful. My biggest complaint is that they lost our luggage on BOTH legs of our trip through Boston. When you lose your luggage on a "normal" airline, they locate the luggage and then put your luggage on the next flight no matter which carrier is flying next. SATA, unfortunately does not have relationships with any other airlines going from Boston to Portugal, so our luggage had to sit in Boston for 3 days until their next flight. Well you asked...we were told to be in Boston 7:00 pm only to leave at amost 2:00 am.....The plane from the azores was late......this was on 1-7-11

Then on 2-4-11 we arrived in Lisbon at noon time to leave at 3:30..what a joke...first the Sata/TAP people had nooooo lugage tags...we were in line more than 30 min...no one was in line good thing.....we boarded and 1/2 hour later we had to leave the plane.....not too many people on the plane.

i am Portuguese and live ion Boston..whenever i fly to Lisbon i will much rather flight to Spain..or London, then back to Lisbon then take SATA..NEVER AGAIN..and the sad part is....its cheaper on the other carriers

The airline neglected to put my luggage on the plane even though I checked in at least two hours early. Waited four days to hear from the airline about the luggage. I called the number they gave me every day, but they never answerd the phone. SATA rarely answers their phone. The staff is trained with barebones knowledge and rude. Luggage didn't arrive in destination & they were very frustrated they had to deal with their situation. They said they would deliver the luggage in 4 days, the next flight from Boston, to our hotel and instead, left a note saying we had to go to the airport ourselves & fetch it. Terrible staff. They are very rude and incompetent. Attendant at the SATA lounge counter was completely clueless and spent all her time on the phone with friends. Took 50min to check in. Flights were delayed out of Toronto and Lisbon. They claim you're on a 6 hr flight when it takes over 7 hrs to get to your destination. Meals were inadequate. How do I get started I have flown on many airlines and I have never seen an airline more worse then SATA,they are ripping people off who fly back home to the azores every few years. I found this airline to be an extremely professional one with great custome service. As a regular passanger between Lisbon and Madeira Island i think their service has been getting better every time i fly with them. Crew are always very sympathetic and attentive, often welcoming you onboard with a big smile. One thing that could improve is their food, although for a flight of 1 hour and 40 minutes it`s a minor regret. If you want better food you can always book in Sata Plus class. The staff were rude, the movie was ancient Portuguese, the food was cool and even after knowing they had a drunk passenger they kept giving him complimentary wine as he made a fool out of himself and embarrassed his wife. I have flown SATA a few times now, mostly from Boston but once from London, with the destination always being Ponta Delgada, to visit my family there. The airline dominates the route therefore gorging passengers with outrageous airfare for a very poor product.

I flew quite a lot, mainly United and Delta, for work trips and Swiss, Lufthansa, Air France when traveling to Europe. People may have poor opinions of US carriers, even some European airlines but any American carrier is far superior… Read Full Review
