“Fantastic car all round”

★★★★★

written by Jaelynn1972 on 08/04/2016

The ST TDCi is a great looking car, great performance, good ride and handling, practical size and very reliable and economical. It has great looks, performance, economy, reliability. what more could you ask for. I hunted for a long time to find my performance blue ST 5 door with recaro trim, sat nav, Bluetooth, privacy glass and factory parking sensors, with full history and only 2 owners now with 75000 miles, 07/07 reg so one of the last ones. A sure future classic like the Cortina 1600E. Fantastic all round car

“Excellent all rounder, it is not a 0-60 car ”

★★★★☆

written by Campbellonie on 22/03/2012

I have owned my mondeo 2.2 tdci ST for 3.5years now and have covered 30000 miles - current total mileage 64000. I traded in my golf mk4 gt tdi 150bhp and the first thing i noticed was it rides better and is more reliable. It is not as useful around town however. Plus points: one of the best motorway cruisers around, effortless Huge boot and excellent spec for the money only £165 road tax and insurance isnt that bad ( old grp13) Bad Points: 1st and second gear are very sluggish and the clutch is heavy around town. also overal mpg is not as good as first thought however a simple professional remap ( i have done this) upped my avg from 45 - 50mpg. I have persoanlyl calculated to verify this. On a motorway run driving under 70mph you will get mid 50's mpg. Reliability? Very good however the handbrake cables are terrible and often need replaced. ford will charge you anything from £150 - £190 to replace both cables! Alloys 'pit' badly and are hard to find second hand. Overall? excellent family car with all the practicality and performance you should really need. I only dislike the car when driving around town.

I have had a few nice cars, but none of them puts a smile on my face like this. There are many petrol cars on the road that simply cannot live with the pace of this car. The torque (especially in 3rd & 4th gears) is simply enormous!
In the 4years I've owned this car, i've only had one problem with it....the dreaded EGR valve went. However, £200 and it runs like a new car again!
Fuel economy is just breathtaking on a long run (up to 60mpg driven carefully) and for a 2.2 that isn't half bad! One of the nicest thing about the car is on motorways, you just stay in 6th gear and let the torque do all the work!
Only negative I can think of is it has a very hard ride due to very low profiles and sports suspension, but then if you don't want the hard ride, by the 2.2 Titanium instead......
Last thing to say is that this car goes WELL OVER its offical top speed of 137mph.....you can add at least another 10mph on top!!!!and possibly then some!
WHAT A CAR!!! ;o)

“I have a 2.0 litre TDCI Titanium pack used for repping . ”

★★★★☆

written by on 29/08/2010

I have a 2.0 litre TDCI Titanium pack used for repping .
It scrubbed the back tyres by 24,000 miles and the locking wheel nuts are soft as grease and deform easily

The main grief is the front seats which murder your hamstrings and produce a muscle spasm in the old buttocks within a hour of starting your days drive

Poor pedal position to seat squab is the problem

Would I recomend - its nothing different to any other main stream offering

This is supposed to be a review of the Mondeo Mk3 ST 2.2 (produced until 2007) but instead you have told us about your 2008 Mk 4 Titanium 2.0 - a completely different car. Also, the ST has Recaro seats, so your point about discomfort is irrelevant to the ST.

the first car i have owned that puts a smile on my face every time i drive it. A great family car and a real drivers car it ticks all the boxes. The styling is very good , comfort perfect for me as i have back problems, the seats adjust in all the right places. Downside turning circle is a bit awkward but a small price to pay for such a great car.Fuel consuption figures could be made more transparrant to new owners as the m p g figures are optomistic at best.

★★★★★

written by on 29/04/2010

I bought this ST TDCI with only 9k on the clock and it is a stunning car to drive. I love EVERYTHING about this car especially its looks and performance. The torque is simply massive. Every time I put my foot down in 4th gear (or any other for that matter), it makes me smile!!! No other car has ever done that. The official figures show 137MPH top end, but I can tell you it goes well over! If you drive it carefully on a long run, it can return over 60MPG! Drive it hard around town and it drops to mid 30's.
Handling is stunning too. Well planted in corners though the ride is very firm!!! Only thing I wish was better is the 18" Alloys looked great when new, but are now very tarnished.. All in all this is a seriously good car which has huge grunt. Why would anyone buy a petrol car of the same size/type?

Traded in a BMW 150hp diesel on this car. Panther black with all the options and 64000 on the clock. Faster than the BM and so far no problems. Is a real motorway cruiser with good economy. Beautiful looking . I'm a satisfied customer

my st tdci is very quick through the gears it pop's up to 70 no problem. my car is panther black has full black leather recaro's xenon lights heated front seat's i love it. the only thing i could say is wrong with it is it's hard to judge parking along side the kerb because you can't see the kerb because of the car's shape. all in all i drive a lot of car's in my job from audi A4 to mitsubishi shogun's and i can honestly say that my st tdci is my favourite of them all for your money the spec you get is fantastic. brilliant car.

To get the performance & economy back, try cleaning inside the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, the Mass Air Flow sensor and the Inlet Manifold. Also, Ford only replace the air filter element every 2 years/25000 miles - so get a new one in the intervening years.

Superb performance for the money with all the modern technology. Great family car with more style than most BMW`s or Mercs. Love the Recaro leather seats and genuinely a pleasure to drive!

“i bought this mondeo st155 hatchback 5 months ago...”

★★★★★

written by on 31/08/2009

i bought this mondeo st155 hatchback 5 months ago after having various vw / audi's.the last car i owned was a mk4 golf gti turbo wich i owned for 3years and i dont recomend there over rated and unreliable.first thing i realised was the st pulls from very low in the rev range (boost gone at 4k)it sits perfectly on the road and for a big car handles very well.on the way from purchasing i reached stupid speeds without realising just how quick i was going.this car pulls effortlessly in every gear.1st is a bit short so in traffic light gp,s you need second asap but the torque is brilliant(more torque than a standard ferrari 360) this car is like a 2stroke crosser if you swap cogs quickly the car will keep pulling strong. the standard spec on the st is brilliant and you would have to look at a lot of audis / bmws to find 1 in this sort of spec. this comes standard with heated half leather(optional extra air con seats) heated front and rear screens electric everything.air con abs+traction 18 inch alloys adjustable steering column height and reach. cruise control the list goes on.as for practicality in my opinion this is the cars top trumph the car is very spacious and very comfortable with a huge boot much bigger than the audi a4/bmw 3 series and lexus.i have 2x 12" speakers and can still fit a buggy and a full shopping trip of food in there.the ride is very good it is slightly firm but it does go over road bumps and potholes very well without sag and no unexspected bangs compared to my golf it has a much smover and comfortable ride.on the motorway at 70mph + its just sits perfectly and you can cover loads of mileage in pure comfort ive done load's of london to portsmouth trips and i have no complaints at all.every day running costs are good a full service is around £180 front discs around £90 pads are around £45 ive been told clutch is exspensive so be aware.it has alot of torque so tyres will need to be changed every year if you pull away quickly all the time.i tend to return in london everyday driving around 35-38mpg and on a motorway 42-45 but my car is in need of a service.my mk4 gti turbo returned about 20-25mpg around town so very good.my only gripes are the heating controls are funny to use at first as getting it to blow cold air without air con on is confusing.the interior is basic although acomadating and comfortable its a bit dull the equivelent audi interior is nicer.if you can find 1 with recaros get it!there is no st detailing inside and the styling is nice but basic and i know it a stupid moan but the key is horrable it looks like a transit key wich it is.no flash key like a audi/vw. to sum this car up its definatly a good car to buy its basicaly a bored out tuned transit engine so its reliable sits very well on the road its spacious and has a huge boot.it returns good mpg and handles and drives very nice and comfortable i bought my 05 plate silver st 155 5 door for £6000 with 62k for the money i dont think youll find a better specd car a brilliant buy, i recomend a1 :-)

written by Artisan on 14/04/2009

My last 3 cars have all been Mondeo Diesels and pound for pound it ' s hard to fault them for reliability and running costs. My latest purchase was the ST Tdci, which came with a full service history in Performance Blue. The car is equipped with climate control, electric seats cruise control, 4 x electric windows heated front screen with ' quick clear 'and leather trim along with rain sensing wipers and auto lights. The leather trimmed heated seats are very comfortable and easily cope with the slightly harder sporty ride. The car is a real head turner with it's 18" multi spoked wheels, although it's quoted that it can return up to 58mpg the best I've achieved is 47mpg.

"The only failure was the Sony 6 CD autochanger! So much for Japanese reliability!"

That's just because you guys live so far from civilisation away from S-E Asia where the action is ! Probably caused by the long sea voyage.

As far as Japanese component reliability is, compared to anyone else really - well, no contest. They're our major trading partner for manufactured goods for good reason - they're the best.

My Mondeo is excellent - almost as good as my Honda Accord Euro.

Good car overall and looks well. Well specked and turns heads Problem is that parking sensors dont work, has been to ford 4 times. Uses way too much diesel compared to previous car, a 150bhp Vauxhall Vectra.

Great car for motorway business use, but would not recommend for anyone who carries out short round town journeys, due to too much gear change needed between 2nd and 4th.
