“Excellent all rounder, it is not a 0-60 car ”

Written on: 22/03/2012 by Campbellonie

I have owned my mondeo 2.2 tdci ST for 3.5years now and have covered 30000 miles - current total mileage 64000. I traded in my golf mk4 gt tdi 150bhp and the first thing i noticed was it rides better and is more reliable. It is not as useful around town however. Plus points: one of the best motorway cruisers around, effortless Huge boot and excellent spec for the money only £165 road tax and insurance isnt that bad ( old grp13) Bad Points: 1st and second gear are very sluggish and the... I have had a few nice cars, but none of them puts a smile on my face like this. There are many petrol cars on the road that simply cannot live with the pace of this car. The torque (especially in 3rd & 4th gears) is simply enormous!
In the 4years I've owned this car, i've only had one problem with it....the dreaded EGR valve went. However, £200 and it runs like a new car again!
Fuel economy is just breathtaking on a long run (up to 60mpg driven carefully) and for a 2.2 that isn't half bad!... (read more)

“I have a 2.0 litre TDCI Titanium pack used for repping . ”

I have a 2.0 litre TDCI Titanium pack used for repping .
It scrubbed the back tyres by 24,000 miles and the locking wheel nuts are soft as grease and deform easily

The main grief is the front seats which murder your hamstrings and produce a muscle spasm in the old buttocks within a hour of starting your days drive

Poor pedal position to seat squab is the problem

Would I recomend - its nothing different to any other main stream offering (read more)

This is supposed to be a review of the Mondeo Mk3 ST 2.2 (produced until 2007) but instead you have told us about your 2008 Mk 4 Titanium 2.0 - a completely different car. Also, the ST has Recaro seats, so your point about discomfort is irrelevant to the ST.

the first car i have owned that puts a smile on my face every time i drive it. A great family car and a real drivers car it ticks all the boxes. The styling is very good , comfort perfect for me as i have back problems, the seats adjust in all the right places. Downside turning circle is a bit awkward but a small price to pay for such a great car.Fuel consuption figures could be made more transparrant to new owners as the m p g figures are optomistic at best. I bought this ST TDCI with only 9k on the clock and it is a stunning car to drive. I love EVERYTHING about this car especially its looks and performance. The torque is simply massive. Every time I put my foot down in 4th gear (or any other for that matter), it makes me smile!!! No other car has ever done that. The official figures show 137MPH top end, but I can tell you it goes well over! If you drive it carefully on a long run, it can return over 60MPG! Drive it hard around town and it... (read more)

my st tdci is very quick through the gears it pop's up to 70 no problem. my car is panther black has full black leather recaro's xenon lights heated front seat's i love it. the only thing i could say is wrong with it is it's hard to judge parking along side the kerb because you can't see the kerb because of the car's shape. all in all i drive a lot of car's in my job from audi A4 to mitsubishi shogun's and i can honestly say that my st tdci is my favourite of them all for your money the spec... great car i have owed both the petrol st220 and now the diesel st155 . at 1st i would say there was not a great deel of differance with the performance but i am having a few problems with loss of power . the diesel does not pull as fast as it did when i 1st got it and i am only getting around 38 mpg (read more)

To get the performance & economy back, try cleaning inside the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, the Mass Air Flow sensor and the Inlet Manifold. Also, Ford only replace the air filter element every 2 years/25000 miles - so get a new one in the intervening years.

i bought this mondeo st155 hatchback 5 months ago after having various vw / audi's.the last car i owned was a mk4 golf gti turbo wich i owned for 3years and i dont recomend there over rated and unreliable.first thing i realised was the st pulls from very low in the rev range (boost gone at 4k)it sits perfectly on the road and for a big car handles very well.on the way from purchasing i reached stupid speeds without realising just how quick i was going.this car pulls effortlessly in every... My last 3 cars have all been Mondeo Diesels and pound for pound it ' s hard to fault them for reliability and running costs. My latest purchase was the ST Tdci, which came with a full service history in Performance Blue. The car is equipped with climate control, electric seats cruise control, 4 x electric windows heated front screen with ' quick clear 'and leather trim along with rain sensing wipers and auto lights. The leather trimmed heated seats are very comfortable and easily cope with... (read more)

"The only failure was the Sony 6 CD autochanger! So much for Japanese reliability!"

That's just because you guys live so far from civilisation away from S-E Asia where the action is ! Probably caused by the long sea voyage.

As far as Japanese component reliability is, compared to anyone else really - well, no contest. They're our major trading partner for manufactured goods for good reason - they're the best.

My Mondeo is excellent - almost as good as my Honda Accord Euro. (read more)

Written on: 10/07/2007 by CD123 (1 review written)

The CD player wouldn't eject CD's and then once Ford fixed this, 12 months later it packed up altogether. There was an excessive diesel knock that kept coming and going - Ford kept re-setting the ECU but the problem kept coming back. The heated seats packed up and I had only ever used them a dozen times.

On the plus side, performance was great and the car was a joy to drive on the motorway with amazing pulling power. Economy was about 50mpg at 75mph, 35 around town or driving hard and the... (read more)

A great secondhand buy via Ford Direct. Saved about £8k on new price with 2500m on it. Electric Leather/Alcantara Recaro seats, DVD satnav/Mp3/6CD, voice control, Bluetooth phone link, heated front seats, climate control, heated windscreen etc. etc.
On top of that, it handles beautifully: very stable and composed on any road surface at any speed. With as much torque as the outgoing M3 BMW, you only need to rev it to 3000rpm to be flying down the road in virtual silence (unless the excellent... (read more)

Apart from my car turning up without the heated seats and puddle lights in the wing mirrors - both standard features - the ST TDCi is an awesome car. Bags of power, very comfortable, spacious, well appointed and above all economical to run on long runs and on the daily commute.

I would recommend anyone looking at this type of car to get it - in preference to the lower powered diesels or petrol versions of the Mondeo. (read more)
