“Helpful Young Man”

Website failed, so I rang the helpline. Got a cheerful gentleman who guided me, as a first-time user, through "how to book". Did it all for me and even got me a cheaper price. Frankly, I might ring up again next time instead of using the internet! It’s great to hear we guided you through the booking process and even managed to find a cheaper ticket, what a result. On the not so positive side, it’s disappointing to hear you weren’t as keen on using the website.

We’re always working hard to ensure the website is user friendly as simple to navigate so hopefully if you’re tempted to try it again in the future things will run more smoothly.

When booking online, the website will highlight the cheapest fare for the journey you’ve selected whether this be a flexible return ticket or two single tickets. At least this way you don't have to worry about paying over the odds!

If you haven’t travelled already I hope you have pleasant journey, I’m sure thing have changed (for the better of course) in the last 50 years :- )

On our website we have various different tools which we’ve developed over the years to easily help you secure the best fares. Before you make your next booking, take a look at our ‘tools and tips’ which can be found on the bottom of home page.

Amongst our most popular tools such as ‘ticket alert’ and ‘best fare finder, from dining in Michelin star restaurants to shopping in London we’ve got it covered :- )

With regards to the difficulties you experienced when paying, as you haven’t mentioned anything further I’m a little unsure of exactly what happened. Going forward however, if you have any problems we’d recommend you get in touch.

It sounds like you have taken advantage of some of the great money saving tools that we offer!

For anyone else who is wondering what these are, I’ve popped a few details below...

Best Fare Finder – if you’re flexible with the time you’re travelling we’ll help you find the cheapest tickets for your journey

Ticket Alert – Once you’ve signed up for this, we’ll let you know as soon as the cheaper ‘Advance’ tickets go on sale for you journey. (usually 12-13 weeks before) That way you’ll have a better chance of bagging your tickets at a bargain price!

You can find links to these and lots of other handy tips to help save you money under the ‘Tools’ tab on the homepage of our website.

“Telephone booking for advance booking train tickets”

Although it always pays to get in early for the advance tickets, there may be some eggciting and cheap deals still available for Easter weekend.

As you make the journey to London so regularly it may be worth setting up (if you haven’t already!) a Ticket Alert with us. We’ll then send you a quick e-mail to let you know as soon as the cheaper ‘Advance’ tickets become available for your journey. That way, you’ll have a better chance of getting your tickets for a bargain price!

You can find the link to set up a Ticket Alert under the ‘Tools’ tab on our website.

“What a trip.”

Our trip was from Durham to Edinburgh (Saturday) and return Monday both 1st class. Leaving we were offered 2 quarter sandwiches and told that was all there was due to match day in Newcastle and no delivery of food, and we were told there was no wine due to football hooligans on Saturdays even though we were happy to pay for it, but we could walk down the aisles and purchase wine from the bar. “trouble with app but great customer service”

although the app crashed and made me have to rebuy a train ticket on the day, thetrainline customer service were very helpful and understanding and after investigation agreed to offer me a refund for my duplicate ticket. i would recommend against using the app and pre-printing your tickets or having them posted but otherwise would strongly recommend thetrainline as a reliable and friendly service… Read Full Review

It’s great to hear after a little investigating we were able to offer a refund on your duplicate ticket, I’m disappointed to hear however that you wouldn't recommend our app to buy your tickets.

For peace of mind I understand some passengers like having their tickets posted before travel however for everyone else the go, mobile tickets are the next best thing since slice bread :- )

Not only can you buy a ticket to travel and download to your mobile on selected routes (or collect from the station), our app also allows you to be one step ahead with our Live Departures board and platform numbers.

If you thought it couldn't get any better, our mobile app is absolutely free so if you want to know what all the fuss is about, click on ‘Free Mobile App’ which you can find at the bottom of our home page.
