“Fab place to eat”

★★★★★

written by KerryE on 25/10/2012

Been going to The Kashmir for 20+ years and I'm only 33.The food has always been excellent, the service has always been excellent and the prices have always been excellent. The decor downstairs isnt up to much but not a lot can be done when the place is open 16 hours a day,365 days a year(christmas dinner here is a must because you dont need to book and the prices dont go up) but the tables and seats are always clean as is the crockery and the cutlery.Always go here if my family and I are eating out as its by far the best restaurant food I've ever eaten.I can and do highly recommend this place to anyone.

“AUTHENTIC Asian Food”

★★★★★

written by Artvaard on 06/10/2012

I've never ever written a review in all my life but reading just now what Robert5sp had to say about the Kashmir got me so worked up that I just had to have my say. I have been going to this particular establishment since 1974, usually at least once a week, even though it means a 60 mile round trip from home for me. Why? Simple, at the Kashmir I get served the very best and authentic curry available anywhere West of Islamabad. Never ever in 38 years of eating there have I found the place to be filthy and I've only ever witnessed the staff being ignorant to totally overbearing, rude, drunken or plain rascist people. In fact, most waiters there know me and my partner by name and even remember our favourite dishes. And of course you don't get served with Western eating implements, in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh you would not expect to be given anything but Chappatis to eat with, unless of course you're too set in your ways to understand other customs and are out like the Raj to impose your way of life on to other cultures. To be perfectly honest, dear Robert, I hope you never ever come to the Kashmir again, obviously the food and the ambience of this place is totally lost on you. Hope you have a nice time at McDonalds and Little Chef.

I have been for 2 weeks running, the second just to disprove my first experience. Unfortunately this didn't happen ... The table was filthy .. The staff totally ignorant After having my meal practically thrown at me for the second time, I found the food to be average..here,s a tip " give people something to eat with" Instead of having to beg for a knife and fork ...sorry to put you out !! Service was absolutely Disgraceful . I have never met such an unfriendly set of people in my life. We were obviously putting the staff out , who simply couldn't be bothered trying to make us welcome I apologise to my son and wife for taking them there for what was a totally unpleasant experience...

★★★☆☆

written by on 19/02/2011

Visited The Kashmir yesterday for the first time in many years. I was wary of the reviews I've read on several sites about the quality of food there thesedays but it sounded like the daytime is better than the evening. Me the Mrs and young un had popadoms, chicken tikka, vegetable pakora, rice, 3 roti, matter paneer and mushroom curry. All in all it came to £13, a bargain price for filling food but not tasty in any way. The pakora where slices of potato in batter, scallops if you like, chicken tikka very dry and overfired. The curries both lacked flavour and as I'd read elsewhere had far too much ghee in them. I'd always considered Bradford something of a mecca for curry with The Kashmir at it's heart but not anymore. For the best canteen style curry I'll stay in Manchester and go to This n That.

★★★★★

written by on 14/02/2011

We visited the restaurant last Friday and after reading the reviews on this website I thought I would write a quick review.
Our party was 17 strong and we were celebrating an end of season football night out. The restaurant is no frills and I don't think it has changed much in 10 years but perfect for a large group especially with the 'bring your own' drinks. This did help with keeping the overall cost down (I dread to think how much the bar bill would have been at a licenced premises!) The service was efficient and quick and the food was good. I was told to have fish pecoras to start with and these were superb! (I will be going back for these again) - and then Chicken Kharachi for the main course.
Overall an enjoyable experience and would gladly go back anytime.

I have been eating at the Kashmere (Bradford) for thirty years but lately i can no longer avoid the anti western sentiment from a very small minority of the staff. This occurs in the down stairs part of the restaurant Dumping food on the table and been able to take a complete order and deliver it to the table without saying one word is an art in itself. But it's an art I shall not be witnessing again.

Excellent restaurant, really tasty and well cooked meals. Good, friendly servive. I bring my family here on a regular basis and am neber disappointed. Well worth trying for anyone who hasn't yet had the pleasure - once tried though it will be hard not to be hooked. 5 star experience without a doubt.

I have eaten at this place for 14 years, however, the last several times I have been disappointed. The curries have been too inconsistent, too much oil, and not enough meat. The service the last few times has been dreadful. When I asked kindly for an extra portion of onion bhaji, the chap serving me didn't even acknowledge me. A few minutes later he put my bhaji on the table, which this time came with no sauce and salad. I asked politely if I could have some yogurt and mint and he gave me an unpleasant look. Several minutes later I am still waiting for my sauce, while he was chatting and laughing with his fellow workers. I was about to get up and leave when he came over and dumped it on the table. No manners what so ever. I could expect this from a teenager, but not from a middle aged man. I used to visit this place frequently a while ago, however, I will not be going back. I gave it the benefit of doubt the last several times and its not got any better.
What a shame.

ahhh the Kashmir. we make a 180 mile round trip a few times a year purely to have our fix of the heavenly mixed starter, the food is inexpensive and reliably good and I wish we didnt live so far away! This is a 'no frills' establishment, well known and loved and hopefully it will be around for another fifty years. If you consider plush surroundings and hovering waiters to be an essential requirement of your evening out then you may be dissappointed but if you value good simple, inexpensive, tasty, quickly served food then you will be impressed. The restaurant has definitely improved over the years, the curries are served with chappatis but cutlery is available on request.

The Kashmir is a Bradford Institution. the food continues to be excellent, down to earth honest pakistani home type cooking, but if you have never been there before you have to see past the decor, otherwise you would walk out before ordering. The management must be millionaires after all the years of 24/7 curry selling and to be honest it is time that they re-invested in cleaning the place up it is now boderline unhygenic and toilets are disgusting so don't use them. Still the place is packed out by those who know how to avoid the hazards!

The Kashmir Restaurant is a Bradford institution. It is a an authentic eating house, no frills. I have been eating here for over 30 years. During that time I have enjoyed really good curries but every now and again you get an exceptional one, a real gem. Keema Madras is my favourite.

If I was on death row and could ask for a last meal, I would have it shipped in from this place. I have been coming here since childhood and would not hesitate to recommend this place for anyone seeking an authentic, wholesome curry.

Like some of the other reviewers I have been eating here for the best part of thirty years, the shami kebabs are superb. Like any restaurant the curries can fluctuate from being just good to outstanding, and when you get one of those outstanding ones it hooks you and that is what keeps me coming back.
You should try the keema madras here as well, i normally get a chicken tikka vindaloo but the keema is a dream when it is on form.
well done guys.

We have been going to the Kashmir Restaurant for more years than we can remember and although we have sampled the food from other Bradford Asian restaurants, we always come back to the Kash, at least half a dozen times a year.

written by nsaleemi on 12/12/2005

The Kashmir restaurant was recommended to us by a friend as it was an award-winning restaurant. However, on arrival (having stepped over the homeless person who greeted us at the door begging for money) we found the place to be in an extremely poor state of repair. The service was abysmal and the chicken tikka starter was not chicken tikka (which is cooked in a tandoor, or at worst, in an oven). They told me they cook it in a batch (i.e. not fresh) on a grill and then deep-fry it to warm it up. We had one mouthful, complained, and walked out without paying. In 31 years of eating Indian food in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Britain, and Germany, easily the worst overall experience of our lives. They should no longer be allowed to include the words 'award-winning' on the (plastic) menu. The soft drinks were served to us in a can. The glasses provided were wet from the kitchen. The cutlery provided for eating the chicken tikka did not include a knife, which we had to ask for. Absolutely 100% to be avoided. Do not take your significant other to this place unless you're planning a divorce.
